Our 2009 retrospective continues with one of the most controversial Best Picture nominees in recent memory. A film that was immensely successful upon its theatrical release but has lowered in estimation over the years. We're talking about John Lee Hancock's true story sports biopic about football player Michael Oher, "The Blind Side," starring Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Tim McGraw, Jae Head, Lily Collins, and Kathy Bates. The movie was nominated for two Academy Awards, winning Best Actress for its star Sandra Bullock, but should it have taken the perspective of Leigh Anne Tuohy and her family instead of Oher? Join Ema Sasic, Lauren LaMagna, Alyssa Christian, Dan Bayer, and me as we discuss our thoughts on the story, its reputation, the performances, its awards season run, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. We appreciate your support and hope you enjoy our discussion!

The 97th Academy Awards are officially over. Another awards season is behind us, and it was indeed a night to remember with some tight races, deserved wins, and a respectful ceremony that honored the heroes of the LA fires and the city of Los Angeles (along with some other questionable tributes: James Bond??). We witnessed some powerfully moving speeches, the longest speech ever, and memories that will last a lifetime. Daniel Howat, Ema Sasic, Dan Bayer, and Alyssa Christian reacted to the winners moments after the ceremony ended last night. Tune in as they give their reactions to the winners, the speeches, and what they thought of the show overall, including Conan O'Brien's opening monologue, the musical performances, in memoriam, and more. Please listen to the podcast below or subscribe to it. We want to give a massive thank you to everyone in the NBP Film Community who has supported us through another awards season. Last night, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) held their 31st annual awards ceremony, rewarding the best acting in film and television for 2024. For the third year in a row, the ceremony was streamed through Netflix. There were some heartfelt tributes to LA in the wake of fires earlier this year and some delightful moments featuring Kristen Bell as host. There were some expected winners and slightly unexpected winners, moving and controversial speeches, and a certain level of doubt cast over our final Oscar predictions (which a whole other group of NBP members recorded before the ceremony, which you can listen to here). Joining me for this instant reactions podcast are Dan Bayer, Lauren LaMagna, Giovanni Lago and Alyssa Christian. Please tune in below to listen and enjoy!
