Just Us: Our favorite movies + TV shows.
4 november 2020 · 1 uur 24 min
For today's episode, in honor of the cooler temps coming our way, we are sharing our favorite TV shows and movies. Hopefully this list will make your winter quarantine a little more entertaining! We have both found that being inside more has led us both to watching a lot more TV than movies. We still stick to our fav genres- Becca almost exclusively watches Rom Coms, and Grace likes anything with secret agents or lawyers, and of course documentaries! Differences aside, we can both agree that we really do love an old person romance… especially when Nancy Meyers is behind it. You Had Me at Hola Book Club
28 oktober 2020 · 1 uur 2 min
For this month's book club, we read You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria. This is the story of Jasmine Lin Rodriguez, the lead actress of the telenovela "Carmen in Charge." She plans to swear off men and follow her Leading Lady Plan, but her plan is compromised when she falls for her co-star, Ashton Suarez. They want to keep things private, but the paparazzi makes this impossible, causing a lot of strain on their budding relationship. This was essentially a RomCom about a RomCom (peak Becca genre), and we had a lot to talk about! This book is steamy in all the right places, while still tackling some more serious issues (LatinX underrepresentation in the film/TV world, consent). Though both characters make some arguably bad decisions, and kept some big secrets, we stood by them til the end and really enjoyed this book. Lees meer
We loved this book, and hope you did too, let's talk more in the FB group! And come back tomorrow for a special bonus episode with the author.

Bad on Politics #8: Yvanna Cancela
9 oktober 2020 · 34 min
Yvanna Cancela represents Nevada's 10th district in the State Senate, and is the first latina to ever serve in the chamber. Today she joins us to share all the ways you can *still* get involved and make a difference this election. With the election coming SO SOON it's important to get clarity on the process and the ways that you can donate your time (or money) to help the causes you care about. Lees meer
As the first ever latina to serve in the State Senate, Yvanna is wildly aware of the gender and racial representation problems our country faces and strives to elevate diverse voices in politics, because that truly is the only way the country will progress toward equality. We discuss how to get involved in battleground states, voting strategies, researching candidates, which races she is watching closely, and why she backs Joe Biden for President.
About Bad on Politics: Bad on Politics is a monthly bonus episode where we invite a guest expert to help us break down a political topic. We get it, politics is confusing and there's a anxiety-inducing amount of news coverage to follow. So, we're here to ask the "dumb" questions so you don't have to. We want to break things down so you can understand what's going on and make an informed opinion.

The Comeback Book Club
26 augustus 2020 · 1 uur 9 min
For our August Book Club we read The Comeback by Ella Berman. The book follows Grace Turner, a young actress who disappeared from Hollywood at the height of her career. During her rise to fame as a teenager, she was sexually and emotionally abused by Abel Yorke, the director who made her famous. After she's invited to present him with a lifetime achievement award she begins to plot her revenge. Even though Grace is a pretty unlikeable character we still loved her story and root for her revenge. A game of 'Would You Rather'
19 augustus 2020 · 52 min
We decided to do a lighter episode this week. On instagram we asked you to propose some fun 'would you rather' scenarios and boy, did you deliver! Some are crazy (but for better or worse we still made our choice!), some are silly, and we definitely didn't agree on everything. Which one of us would give up booze? Which one would give up travel? Who would rather have a lobster claw for an arm than a floor length white beard? What could make us give up books? What about quarantining forever? You can learn a lot about a person in a good game of WYR. We hope this episode makes you laugh! Lees meer

29 juli 2020 · 1 uur 9 min
This month, we read The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. This the story of identical twin sisters (and their daughters) spanning the fifties through the nineties. Desiree and Stella are inseparable growing up in the fictional light-skinned Black town of Mallard, Louisiana during the fifties in the Jim Crow-era south. When they are 16, they run away together to New Orleans. From there, their lives take completely different turns. Desiree marries a dark-skinned man and returns home to raise her daughter in Mallard, while Stella goes on to pass for white - hiding her identity and past from her new family. The book follows the girls' stories and their daughters, who eventually end up meeting via a chance encounter. We discuss colorism, the theme of running away throughout the book, our interpretations of the title, and our mixed reviews on the ending. Although this book has been in the works for 4 years, its release couldn't be more timely, as the story has such pointed views about race and privilege. We can't wait to hear what you think of the book! Join in the discussion on the Facebook Group. Lees meer

Clap When You Land Book Club
24 juni 2020 · 49 min
For this month's book club, we read Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo. We absolutely loved this book. It's prose, written in verse, which makes the story even more engaging (and the lines more powerful and poignant). This is the story of two 16 year old girls, Yahaira and Camino who lose their father in a plane crash. Both girls (growing up in New York City and the Dominican Republic, respectively) grow up loving their father and having a close relationship with him. But upon his death, they learn of each other. The book tells each of their stories and struggles. We absolutely loved this book and enjoyed discussing it! Lees meer

17 juni 2020 · 1 uur 25 min
Ayana Lage is a freelance marketer and writer in Tampa. More recently, a few of her videos about Black Lives Matter went viral. Everything from how it feels to go viral, what brands can do to be more inclusive (and who is doing it right!), and how growth on her platform is affecting her life personally and professionally. She answers your questions about how the regular person can use their social media presence to support Black Lives Matter and support anti-racist activism. The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires Book Club
27 mei 2020 · 1 uur 3 min
For this month's book club we're discussing The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendricks. This book came highly recommended by Grace's mom and it definitely sparked some fun conversation. While this is not the type of book either of us typically pick up, we wanted something more fun to take some pressure off during quarantine. Lees meer
The story follows Patricia Campbell, a southern housewife, who joins a true crime book club where she forms a tight knit group of female friends. When they discover that their neighbor, James Harris, is actually a vampire who is terrorizing the town and feeding on children, the women of the book club stand up to take matters into their own hands. Who ever thought a book club would end in cold-blooded murder?!

Celebrity Tanner & Isle of Paradise Founder, Jules Von Hep, on Body Positivity, Self Tanning, and Building his Brand.
13 mei 2020 · 1 uur 18 min
After a highly requested (micro) deep-dive into Normal People (we loved the show maybe even more than the book!), we chat with Jules Von Hep! Jules is a celebrity tanning expert and the founder of the (clean! vegan!) line Isle of Paradise. We chat with him about how quarantine is going in the UK and then move along to his career and how he founded Isle of Paradise. Lees meer
He walks us through his career path and how he got to where he is today (he's tanned everyone from Kate Moss to Kendall Jenner!),how + why he started Isle of Paradise, and of course all his best self-tanning advice - answering all of your self tanning questions and providing helpful tips for first timers. But the best part of the interview was all of the incredible life advice. Jules talks about saying no (his advice here is so good), navigating negativity, and how to be more body confident!

In Five Years Book Club
29 april 2020 · 55 min
This month, we read In Five Years by Rebecca Serle. We both absolutely loved this book and read it in under 24 hours. Before diving into the book, we do our usual quarantine catch up. We are both healthy, staying busy, and Tyrion (Grace's cat) seems to have developed a newfound love for Zoom calls. Lees meer
This book is about best friends, Dannie and Bella. Dannie is a little bit uptight and is one of those women who always has a plan and knows exactly what she wants. Meanwhile, Bella is a bit more flighty and romantic. On the night that Dannie gets engaged to her long-time boyfriend, David, she has an extremely vivid dream of where her life will be in 5 years. She's in a different apartment, with a different (and sexy) man. We then see how the next five years play out and what happens. Dannie is jilted when she meets Bella's new boyfriend Greg - it's the man from her dream! Bella falls ill and a series of other events happen to turn Dannie's life upside down. She ends up exactly where the dream predicted - discovering that fate is most certainly real. This book will make you cry - but the good kind! This is our favorite book from 2020 - we hope you love it as much as we did!

22 april 2020 · 1 uur 18 min

In this episode we share our favorite recipes, favorite food inspiration accounts to follow, and our personal pantry and grocery shopping staples. We have some strong opinions on condiments, our panic buys, and quarantine cooking fails. Bad on Politics #6: Stacey Abrams on Voting Rights
13 april 2020 · 29 min
Stacey Abrams, needs no introduction but we'll give her one anyway. She's a New York times bestselling author, non profit CEO, and political leader.. and today she joins us to answer all our questions about voting rights: an incredibly important issue that we didn't know NEARLY enough about before this interview. Lees meer
After losing her 2018 Georgia gubernatorial race, Abrams created Fair Fight to ensure that all Americans were able to vote and to have their votes counted. We talk to her about the different forms of voter suppression and how this disproportionately affects people of color, women, the elderly, and college students. We also discuss how we can make sure we have a safe and fair election in 2020.

In this episode we dive into our personal reading histories and talk about our reading lives. We share stories about how we became readers, our favorite childhood books - Sweet Valley High, Babysitters Club, R.L. Stein, etc. Although we have different reading routines, ways we organize books, and views on putting a book down (to DNF or not to DNF, that is the question!) - we can agree that vacation reading is the best reading. We share our favorite recent books, our process for vetting the books for our monthly book club, and the books we think are overrated. If you ever have trouble finding new books, or picking something to read we list our top ways to find new reads. Lees meer

Followers Book Club
26 februari 2020 · 1 uur 20 min
Followers by Megan Angelo is a thought provoking take on influencer culture. The book alternates between the present day story of Orla and Floss living in modern day New York with their own reality TV show; and Marlow, 35 years from now living in a town called Constellation where influencers have become government employees and have their lives broadcasted 23/7. It's sharp and witty (and a bit of a cautionary tale - when does sharing go TOO FAR?) This book is a great conversation starter and will take you on a wild ride from New York to California to a futuristic (internet-free) colony called Atlantis. We couldn't put this book down and are still thinking about it weeks later! Lees meer

In this (highly requested) episode we are talking about being single in your thirties! We answer all of your questions about dating, and give the best advice we can from our own experiences. This episode is broken into four parts: why being single in your thirties is actually pretty great, how to stay positive, how to make new friends (and keep the old), and all things DATING (another hot topic). We share our weirdest dates, our favorite apps (and when to delete them), ways to meet people IRL, thoughts on freezing our eggs, and managing dating app burnout. Claire Mazur and Erica Cerulo on work wifing, closing their business, and the decision whether to have kids
5 februari 2020 · 1 uur 43 min
This is hands down one of our favorite interviews yet! Erica Cerulo and Claire Mazur, founders of Of a Kind (RIP!), join us to talk about founding and running a business with your friend. We dive into how they split their roles in the business, travel styles, and hiring a management coach (AKA a business therapist). We also chat about how they're processing the closure of their company and what's next. Lees meer
Then we turn to the subject of motherhood, and have an incredibly candid conversation about how Claire grappled with whether or not she wanted children, how Erica has defended her choice not to have children, and how they've supported each other and stayed close despite their disparate decisions. We wrap up with some recommendations for everything from skincare to podcasts to books.

Good Girls Lie Book Club
29 januari 2020 · 1 uur 11 min
This month we read Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison. This book combines some of our favorite things: rich unsupervised teens at a boarding school, secret societies… and murder. Ash is an outcast, relocating from England to attend boarding school at the prestigious Goode School in Virginia. Her parents have passed away, she has an abusive past with her father, and she definitely has a lot of secrets. When she gets tapped for the Ivy Bound secret society, things go haywire. Her roommate dies and now we are trying to figure out who did it and why. Even though we found (nearly) every character to be deeply unlikable, we still really enjoyed the book. We got to rehash our love for secret societies (and the movie The Skulls). Grace reveals what happens in her sorority's initiation rituals... and that she doesn't like Gilmore Girls (gasp!).
