Lorelai is cornered by a new local and talked in to watering his garden whilst he's away on a business trip. When Lorelai has to get to work, she asks Rory to take over, but when things go wrong she has to enlist Jess' help. Lorelai also asks Emily for help finding a guy she met at an auction house, but realizes he's not quite what she anticipated.

The Gilmore Girls show up at Luke’s diner and Luke is grumpy because there’s a big table of parents with babies at the diner. He hates them. Classic Luke.
Emily calls Lorelai and invites her to an auction that’ll have furniture that may be great for the inn. When Michel finds out, he BEGS to go!
Lorelai gets home and meets a new neighbor named Dwight who asks if she’d be willing to turn on and off his sprinkler system at his house, which he calls the Oasis, while he’s out of town. She reluctantly agrees.
At the auction, Lorelai goes to get a drink and bumps into Jon Hamm and the chemistry is nuts. She doesn’t get his name, so when she gets home, she calls the auction house to try to get his name. Obviously, they can’t.
So at Friday night dinner, she awkwardly gets his name from Emily. It’s Peyton.
The next day, Lorelai and Rory have to run by the Oasis before they head to Luke’s. Dwight left her a note asking if she’d also be willing to go inside and water the violets. She gets a call from Peyton and he asks her out for dinner and also to a David Bowie c…

At Luke’s, Luke sees Taylor taking pictures of the building. What’s he up to?!
At school, Paris and Rory have put together a panel to help seniors with applying for colleges. All of their answers are making Rory overthink what she’s put in her application. She meets up with her mom at Emily’s and is in full freak out mode!
The next day, people start showing up at Luke’s asking for drinks he doesn’t make. It becomes clear that these people are being sent by Taylor. He confronts Taylor who wants to open a soda shop in the space next to Luke’s, which he owns. Luke says absolutely not for the rest of time!
Lorelai got a phone number from Headmaster Charleston from a Harvard graduate so that Rory could pick their brain and help ease her application anxiety. They go over and he’s excited to talk to them. It’s Friday night dinner and Lorelai is clearly annoyed to be there. Rory tries to facilitate a conversation and it doesn’t go well.
The next day, they’re at Luke’s. Jess’ new boo thang walks in and they kiss hard again.
Apparently there’s a mouse at the inn. Kirk shows up and is surprisingly not the exterminator. Instead, he asks Lorelai out for dinner in 2 weeks.
It’s time for the first day of senior year. Rory invites her mom to see her speech after school as she’s sworn into student government and tells her that Emily is going to be there. Afterwards, Emily asks Lorelai if they can get lunch just the two of them.
The next day, a girl named Francine pulls Rory into the bathroom and tells her that Paris isn’t actually in charge. She’s the senior class president and the leader of the Puffs. She’s going to do what she wants, which starts with higher hemlines, OR ELSE!
Emily shows up at Luke’s for lunch. She insists there’s no hidden agenda. Then immediately goes right into how she called Christopher and she knows that he’s not in love with that woman and she implores Lorelai to call him and tell him that she wants him.

THEY KISS! AND SHE'S PREGNANT WITH TWINS! Except womp womp it's a dream. She wakes up and immediately grabs the phone to call Rory and asks her to please come home. She tells her all about her dream. Rory is like oh clearly you're in love with him and want to have his babies. Lorelai is like nope try again. Rory is like ok maybe you're upset about dad and the fact that he's having a baby with another woman. They're talking on the phone because Rory is still in DC but she comes home on Friday. Lorelai is actively avoiding Luke so she goes to Sookie's for breakfast. It's a whole thing. We find out that Lorelai is going to graduate from business school at the community college. She was planning to skip the graduation but Rory isn't having that. Rory says they should invite Emily and Richard but Lorelai isn't having it. Naturally, Rory is going to honor those wishes, yes? She doesn't. She goes to visit Richard & Emily in person. She gives them tickets and tells them if they want to go and encourage Lorelai, great. If not, that's ok - she doesn't need to know. Lorelai bumps into Luke and they do some awkward small talk.
Lorelai gets a call from Christopher. He says I sent you a basket as a congrats on graduating...you know as friends do.
Rory gets a call from Jess. Turns out he's in the city and says she should come visit. She hops on a bus immediately and meets up with him. They walk around the city and talk and eat hotdogs.

Lorelai heads to her parents' house and finds out that Richard started his own company - it's an insurance consulting firm. He comes out of his office mad that his assistant from the old firm turned down Richard's offer to join his company. He's not sure what to do. He's like maybe I should just shut it down. Lorelai is like whoa that seems premature. Just hire a new assistant. Lorelai agrees to help him get his office set up and find a new assistant.
Dean gets home and Rory hands him a letter outlining exactly what happened. He's not thrilled but is relieved to hear that Jess left town and invites her in for dinner...not the reaction Rory was expecting. When she tells her mom, she's like he loves you, just be happy.
She goes to Richard's office and it's a mess. She takes the first call and realizes that he needs pens, so off to the office store they go.

Lorelai and Rory are at Doose’s, commenting on the new bagger. They go to check out, and Taylor invites them to the movie in the park. Lorelai wants to know what movie they’re picking, but he refuses to answer.
It finally comes out that the movie is going to be The Yearling for the fourth straight time. Taylor is fed up with Lorelai complaining and says she can just pick the movie.
They head home and begin talking through movie options, but they can’t decide!
Meanwhile, Lane is in class taking a test when Jess sneaks in late while the teacher isn’t looking. He asks Lane for a pen—not to take the test, but to make notes in his book.
Luke ends up getting a call to come to the principal’s office. Jess is a problem. He’s doing absolutely no work, he’s not nice to his teachers, and baseballs are going missing. The principal says he has to hire Rory a tutor. She needs serious help.
Later, at Luke’s, Taylor comes in with a binder full of movie titles they can pick from. Apparently, these come from a company that gives Taylor a good deal. The movies are all really obscure.
Luke goes to talk to Jess, and Jess makes it clear that he doesn’t care about school. So Luke goes to talk to Lorelai and brings her brownies. He asks to talk to Rory and asks if she’d be willing to tutor Jess.
She agrees.

Rory asks Lorelai if she's willing to be the group advisor! She's like well....how about your grandfather? I bet he'd love to be your advisor!
So she goes over to ask him and he is like I'm not sure if I'll be much help. He's like things are a bit hectic right now and it's short notice. But when Emily hears about this, she's like YOU MUST HELP! So obviously, he will help.

Lorelai is listening to a bunch of voicemails from her mom telling her a bunch of things about the DAR.
The next day, Emily is at the inn trying various soups to serve at the DAR meeting. Emily asks Sookie about her wedding planning, scaring her out of using a CD for music.
Luke calls Lorelai and asks for a couple rooms. His uncle Louie passed away and he's helping plan the funeral.
The next morning, Lorelai and Rory show up at the diner and it's PACKED! Cesar is gone and Luke is dealing with funeral stuff, so they jump in to help. Rory goes to force Jess to come down and help. Lorelai encourages Luke to go deal with the funeral stuff, she will work the diner today.
Taylor sees a farmers market has opened up in the town square and he is not happy! What about his market?! The guy running it insists that he is following all the rules.
Lorelai sees her mom at the inn and is confused. There was nothing on the books. She's like oh I'm here with Sookie, helping her plan her wedding.
Lorelai is busy this episode. She's back at the diner when Jackson comes by. He's sad that his nice simple wedding has been ruined, BY EMILY! He asks if Lorelai can help. They want to move the gazebo!

Lorelai was cleaning her gutters when she hurt her hand. She slapped a Band-Aid on it and refuses to go to the doctor.
They get to Luke’s, but Luke is nowhere to be found. To make matters worse, Caesar is cooking. So Lorelai heads upstairs to check on Luke and encourage him to come down and make them pancakes. The place is a mess because Jess’s mom finally sent the rest of his stuff, and now Luke can’t find his supply ledger. Lorelai finds it and holds it hostage until he comes downstairs to make the pancakes.
That night, Lorelai and Rory are walking to get supplies for movie night. They pass Luke’s and see him sitting there alone, sadly drinking a beer and watching TV on his tiny television. He just needs some space from Jess. Lorelai encourages him to get a bigger apartment, but Luke isn’t having it. Instead, he asks if Jess could clean Lorelai’s gutters for her.
Lorelai doesn’t say yes right away, but on the walk home Rory says, "I thought you were going to give Jess a chance. You should hire him." After a little more guilt-tripping, Lorelai finally agrees.
Then she asks Rory why it’s so important that she like Jess. Rory comes up with an excuse, but Lorelai is wise to her.
Luke heads upstairs and freaks out on Jess over the mess. He shouts, "WE’RE MOVING TOMORROW!"

We’re road-tripping, and we’re not having fun. The Gilmore girls are not road-trippers. Lorelai calls Sookie to tell her that the wedding is off. Good thing Sookie hasn’t already made THE BIGGEST CAKE EVER.
They decide to spend the night at this random B&B and are immediately disgusted by how many flowers are in the room. That night, they get into an argument. Rory thinks Lorelai is making a mistake. She thinks Lorelai loves Max. Lorelai insists she does not and that she’s sure she made the right decision.
After fighting off the overly friendly B&B guests, they escape and decide on a destination…HARVARD! They have the BEST time imagining Rory’s future there.
Eventually, it’s time to head back to Stars Hollow, and clearly everyone already knows about the breakup. People wave sadly, Miss Patty cries — it’s a lot.
It’s time for Friday night dinner, and Lorelai tells Emily the wedding is off. Emily honestly takes it pretty well.
Lorelai then goes to talk to Luke, and they have a moment. Naturally, Luke is PUMPED.
Lane is back from Korea! Rory tells Lorelai she’s going to hang out with Lane. To make sure she doesn’t spend time alone with her thoughts, Lorelai immediately calls Sookie. It’s time to talk about opening their own inn!

The next morning, they go to Luke's diner. Luke freaks out because Taylor is having a traffic light installed.
That night, Lorelai and Max go on a double date with Rory and Dean. They eat a ton of food and still have room for ice cream. Max can't believe it. Dean is like you have much to learn, brother. And he gives them some insight on what life is like with the Gilmore girls.
When they get home, Max and Lorelai get in an argument. Max wants to know what he should do if Rory is outside making out too long or comes home drunk. Remember Henry, the guy Lane hit it off with at the party? He tells Rory he tried calling, but Mrs. Kim scared him off. So he gives Rory his number to pass along.

Rory is talking to Lorelai about where she should get married…which Lorelai very much does not want to talk about, considering she hasn’t even decided if she’s going to say yes yet.
Rory heads over to talk to Lane, who has bad news: her parents bought her a one-way ticket to Korea for the summer. Yikes.
Lorelai goes to buy a newspaper and spots a bunch of wedding magazines. She ends up grabbing one, which feels like a BIG sign. Miss Patty immediately clocks it and asks if she’s told Luke. Lorelai says no, but she’s about to — and insists it’s not a big deal because they’re just friends.
Naturally, the entire town follows her to Luke’s to watch through the window.
Luke handles it well at first…until he doesn’t. He starts rapid-fire questioning her: Where will you live? Will you have kids? Will you keep working after you’re married? Lorelai is not loving this interrogation.
Friday night dinner time. When they arrive, Emily is unusually chipper — Rory finished in the top 3%! Everyone already knew, which kind of kills the moment, but they celebrate anyway.
During dinner, Lorelai starts fidgeting with the ring and even moves it to her ring finger. This sends her spiraling enough to call Max and try to talk through all the questions Luke brought up. Max asks if these questions mean she’s saying yes…

Lorelai sees Luke walking out of the cat store. She gives him a hard time when she finds out that he's planning on giving Rachel a cat pot holder for Rachel's birthday. She says let me go shopping for you and get her something she'll actually like.
She brings him all the stuff but also surprises him with a bunch of clothes for him to wear. He's not thrilled.

But Lorelai is more taken aback by this abandoned house that she took a picture of. She immediately thinks it might be the perfect inn.
When Lorelai gets to work, she's shocked to find Rune is there. You remember Rune - Jackson's cousin. Sookie asks Lorelai for a favor - give Rune a job and let him stay at the inn so he can get out of Jackson's place. She reluctantly agrees.
Emily shows up in Stars Hollow and they go on their way. They're having a great time until Rory shows her the little shack that she grew up in and Emily storms out.
Lorelai goes to check out the inn in the pictures with Rachel. It's perfect.

Luke sees Dean trying to come inside to get coffee, so he goes outside and fights him. They head home and Lorelai encourages Rory to just hang out with Lane for a while.
Feeling lonely and missing Max, she goes to try to hang out with Sookie, but she's busy on a miserable date with Jackson because he's attempting to make her dinner.
So she gives in and decides to go see Max and apologizes to him and he invites her in.
Rory and Lane go to a Chilton party. It doesn't take Lane long to meet a guy and start dancing. And Rory begins to notice that ol' Tristan over there is sad because he and his new girlfriend broke up.
At Max's house, those two love birds are kissing HARDDDDD. But they start to discuss where things stand. Turns out, nothing's changed. He's still Rory's teacher. But whatever. LET'S KISS!
Next thing you know, they're in bed. UH OH!
Rory finds Tristan alone at the piano and they talk about their prospective break ups. They end up kissing but Rory pulls away and starts crying.
When Lorelai gets home, she sees Rory on the couch crying and ready to wallow.

It's Christmas time and the prep for the Christmas pageant is in full swing, despite the fact that the baby Jesus is missing an arm. Lorelai and Rory have still not made up. The tension is palpable.
While at work later, Lorelai gets a call from Emily telling her about when the Christmas party is. Lorelai is talking about how she'd be late so Emily tells her not to come at all which is shocking to Lorelai. When Rory goes to leave, she tells her that she's sure Emily didn't mean it and asks her to go but Lorelai isn't budging. After Rory leaves, Lorelai hears a knocking coming from the window in Rory's room. It's Dean.
