midierror meets... JOMOX - 30 Years of Iconic Techno Machines

26 september 2025 · 1 uur 14 min

Afspelen

In this episode, we speak to Jürgen Michaelis of JOMOX; the creator of some of the most essential and iconic techno machines over the last 3 decades, including the MBase, XBase, AlphaBase, Moonwind, M.Brane, Sunsyn, T-Resonator, and Resonator Neuronium (the latter is a neural network synth). We speak with Jurgen about how he got started, modding TR-909s and other gear, and discuss the polyphonic harmonic distortion he built into a guitar in 1988. Lees meer

Jurgen single handedly runs JOMOX - designing the internal PCBs and electronic circuits, as well as creating their incredible casings, forming the UI/UX and much more - certainly a man of many talents! Users of his equipment include Prince, Trent Reznor, Depeche Mode, Aphex Twin and anyone you’d care to mention in electronic music. We also discuss some of his art projects and installations as well as the benefits of meditation, and what else he’s working on.

midierror meets... Spirit of Gravity - 25 Years of Experimental Live Music

2 september 2025 · 1 uur 19 min

Afspelen

In this episode, we hear from Geoff Reader aka DJ Cheesemaster from Brighton’s longest running live experimental music night; Spirit of Gravity. Lees meer

For the last 25 YEARS, the collective have hosted a monthly music event with 3 acts per night, with a focus on bringing experimental music and sound performances to the fore. While live outsider art and experimental sound generation are welcomed they have some illustrious alumni, including Shitmat, Metronomy, Tim Exile, Scanner, Toshimaru Nakamura, Monty Oxymoron, Asmus Tietchens, David Thomas, Eugene Chadbourne, and many more.

The night is a perennial fixture in Brighton’s music scene - an enduring event at a time when live music is sadly struggling. We hear from the compare and collective member, Geoff who is known for donning a ginger wig and hosting the events as only he knows how. We also discuss SoG gives people from any walk of life a stage to perform and express their sound art, music projects, and stories - with some incredibly experimental, and sometimes challenging shows.

Welcome to the latest episode of the midierror meets… interview series speaking to all kinds of people working in music and sound. Lees meer

In this episode, we hear from Scanner aka Robin Rimbaud - a ridiculously prolific artist, composer, sound designer, performer, collaborator, curator, and activist. He made his name searching radio frequencies for fragments of conversations, messages and announcements - which he lovingly intertwined with his own musical pieces and performances. His career spans culture across a spectrum of disciplines; including music, cinema, ballet, art, drama, theatre, installations and much more. We caught up with him last year soundtracking the films of Harry Smith in Brighton, which he’s done for the likes of Jean Luc-Goddard,as well as working in collaboration with people like Steve McQueen, Laurie Anderson and many more. We talk about what it’s like to be a public figure with an image to uphold, owning Aphex Twin’s Buchla, and how to ghost-bust your house - and whether to sample it or not! Robin also presents Ear Space, a monthly exploration of sounds and music. https://scannerdot.com/https://www.totallyradio.com/shows/earspace This is series 2, episode 1 and there are 50 previous episodes available now featuring Fatboy Slim, CJ Bolland, Andrew Huang, Tim Exile, High Contrast, Mylar Melodies, Infected Mushroom, DJ Rap, John Grant and many more. Welcome to the latest episode of the midierror meets… interview series speaking to all kinds of people working in music and sound. Lees meer

In this episode, we’re speaking with COSEY FANNI TUTTI, co-founder of the boundry-pushing Throbbing Gristle and performance-art duo COUM Transmissions alongside Genesis-P-Orridge. Cosey is known for her expansive electronic explorations - encompassing abstract, industrial, ambient, and experimental music, which has often been deeply connected to her own performance art.

She was said to be a “wrecker of civilisation” by a Conservative MP after an art exhibition called “Prostitution” in 1976, and she continues to shake up what is deemed to be mainstream.

She has released a succession of albums alongside Chris Carter, as Carter Tutti as well as Chris & Cosey, with the duo also collaborating with Nik Colk Void on CARTER TUTTI VOID material in subsequent years. In 2012, she soundtracked ‘Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and Legendary Tapes’ - a film about the influential composer using sounds collected from Delia’s own attic tapes. Her book ‘Art Sex Music’ is a multi-award winning Book of the Year, and she has a new solo album out this Friday 13th June, entitled 2t2.

He also has a lovely synth collection, including an ARP Quadra, Solina String Synth, and Thomas Dolby signed TB-303. https://www.holotronica.com/ https://stuartwarrenhill.com/ This is series 2, episode 1 and there are 50 previous episodes available now featuring Fatboy Slim, CJ Bolland, Andrew Huang, Tim Exile, High Contrast, Mylar Melodies, Infec Lees meer
