Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan reflects upon the institution of marriage being about trust from the very beginning and the foundation of two families coming together accompanied by trust, transparency, and openness. Lees meer

One of the fundamental, central, pivotal Surahs in the Quran about marriage is Surah Nur and in this Surah it first it deals with many varied topics like people who violate the sanctity of marriage, the fornicator, the adulterer. It also deals with the scandal that was started about the marriage of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the accusation made against Aisha R.A also a matter dealing with marriage. It also deals with some rules that should be observed inside the house for instance, "O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own houses until you ascertain welcome and greet their inhabitants. "

And then in this same Surah, Allah talks about the Ayat of Noor; the light in the heart. This is the same Surah that talks about the Khimar - the covering of women but everything else seems to be related to marriage and guarding Haya. The most profound passage in the Quran on spirituality is in this same Surah. Why? Because we are being taught that by observing these things we will help our spirituality and violating these things will hurt our spirituality. The light in our hearts will be hurt or damaged if we do not address these things.

So what is it that we should reflect upon in the word Ar-Rahman. So the first thing that we are being asked to reflect and ponder upon is “How is Allah merciful to me? What does that mean? What is Allah doing for me right now that is a display of Allah’s Mercy?” We have innumerable things to thank Allah for, and these are all manifestations of Allah’s Mercy.

We recognize also that the Qur’an is a source of cure which is a priceless thing. Human beings have the ability to show compassion towards each other and even towards other creatures, and they have this unique quality of love and compassion. And so someone who is pre-programmed with love and compassion, the perfect thing for them would be a message that is full of love and compassion — Qur’an.

The Qur’an came down in clear, beautiful, Arabic speech. So as to make the human being capable of benefiting from this book. Allah taught him—the human being— {Al-bayaan}. {Al-bayaan} means the ability to speak clearly, to understand speech, to communicate. Allah gave us that ability.

Listen intently to discover many more such mesmerizing lessons that will ensure success in this world and the HereAfter.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan discusses the verse from Surah Hadeed, Allah summarizes the things that most human beings chase after.
“Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allah and contentment. And what is the worldly life except for the chattels of deception.”
Allah says in these verses that almost our entire life is consumed by our endless needs and things that we find pleasure in. but the same things that we chased all our lives are exactly those things in which we lose interest as we reach the dwindling years of our life.

Also, it is said in the above verse of the Qur'an that at the end is eternal and intense punishment and we will not get used to the punishment of Jahannam. The desires and pain of this world one can get used to it but the pain of hell we will not get used to it.

But there is hope. Allah says -"Forgiveness is from Allah, that is permanent and Ridwaan.” This means incredible or total contentment. In this world, whatever it is that we are running after, it will never satisfy us. But in Jannah we will be in peace and satisfaction.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with the blueprint of the Divine - what Allah has blessed us with and what is expected from us in return. Lees meer

The Ustadh divides people into three groups in this talk - people who aspire to do something for themselves, people who aspire to do something for the community and the smallest minority of people who believe in an idea and who believe that spreading of an idea would make the word better. People who believe that an idea is so powerful that if people are inspired by that idea, it would manifest itself in ways they themselves can't even imagine.

The ultimate success for humanity is for us to make our Creator, our Master, the One Who loves us more than anyone else can love us, the One Who cares for us more than anyone else could care for us, to make Him happy with us. Every other success we vie for in this world must submit to that idea. Because none of the things we have here are the reason for which we are here - they are just a means to a larger end which is to earn the Pleasure of Allah. This is a very powerful concept.

What happens today is Islam defined by the visible markers of Islam, and the original definition of Islam with an ethical worldview, moral worldview and then the laws of Islam, the hijab, halal and the haram, Sharia of Islam, beautify that worldview. But there is a social and emotional disconnect with these pillars of our Deen and that is the path of doom eventually.

A real revival of prayer, in our personal lives, and really engaging with the Quran as one should guarantee success. The Ni'mah or blessings that Allah has given us and opportunities Allah has given us are unparalleled. Allah has given us more than so many others and it has been given to us because Allah SWT expects great things from us.

Not just for our own lives, but for His Deen.

We are constantly people of thought, and what makes us think is Aayat. We think deeply about the Aayat, then reflect on the Aayat, and the Aayat not just of the Quran but the Aayat of the creation all around us. The purpose of the Aayat:

    - La allakum yatafakkarun

    - Li qoumin yaqi loon

    - La allakum taqiloon

    - Li yaddabaru aayati

Allah SWT wants us to think about what He wants us to really reflect on, and this is the difference between when we read the Quran just at the surface level and we just move on. We do not stop to think about what actually Allah SWT is saying. He says in the following remarkable Aayah -“wa aoha rabbuka ilal nahl", Allah SWT in this particular Aayah says that He is talking about the bee, the honey bee. Our Master, the same Master who revealed the Quran to us is the One who revealed something to the honey bee.

Allah has given it advice so everything it does has to do with Wahi, it's inspired by Wahi, and it has lessons to learn. There is a Hadith of our Messenger ﷺ - Wallazi bi nafsi hilazi. Inna mahalal mumin ka masalil na’ala -“I swear by the one who has my life in his hand. The example of the believer is just like the example of the bee.”

How are we going to be like the bee? What can a bee teach us about my Emaan? About how are we going to live as a believer?

Listen intently to unravel some awe-inspiring details.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares with us some reflections from two places in the Quran. One of them is Surah An-Naml, the 27th Surah of the Quran and the other is Surah Al-Qasas, the 28th Surah of the Quran. Lees meer

There are different kinds of proofs and different kinds of manifestations of Taqwa. Taqwa means recognition of Allah’s presence, which means it changes our behavior. Taqwa is also manifest on our conscience and consciousness of Allah is also manifest in how we interact with each other. How humble, how respectful, how courteous we are towards each other is also a sign of what kind of Taqwa we have of Allah SWT.

We learn from the Ayat of Sulayman AS and the stories that are mentioned in the Quran. They are about the bird that was called Hud Hud. Who asked for the bird? When did he ask for it? What position is he in and why would he have to worry about a bird? What transpired in this story? What lesson can be imbibed from this?

Sulayman AS is the leader of an army. So he does show anger as recorded in Surah An Naml.

"I’m going to punish that bird, I’m going to come at it if it’s late. Where, why don’t I see it?”

What is he doing that for?

Now the bird does show up late and he needs to hear an explanation. “ What were you doing?”.

The bird shows up, and it says, "I have come across knowledge that you don’t have”.

But Sulaiman AS is a prophet. What’s his reaction going to be? What’s he going to say?

Listen to the mesmerizing lecture that makes us ponder over the story.

Nouman Ali Khan delves into the strategy of Shaytan and also the final dialogue of Iblees. Shaytan is the ultimate enemy we have and is a relentless and pertinent one we have till the end of time. How is the devil going to come at us and pull us under his wing? Lees meer

Some of the origins of the word Shukr are illustrated and how some of us have Shukr cultivated within us and is displayed.

Shaytan is angry at being admonished for being arrogant to Allah and swears that he will make mankind even more arrogant than him and even ungrateful. So, arrogance is a lack of manifestation of gratitude. Shaytan comes from 4 directions at us and he wants to prove our ingratitude from our hearts and diminish our optimistic relation with Allah. We should fight the temptations and let not greed get the better of us because we should firmly believe that Allah will never abandon us in moments of crises.

Shaytan attacks from the right by:

Convincing you that you own your guidance. So you start to pity others, deviating away from your own guidance and focusing on theirs. Ultimately believing you are the source of guidance and take part in others’ personal journey to Allah.
Using the word of Allah for evil purposes (Having a personal agenda above the word of Allah)
    Resetting the priorities of Islam
Defining your own idea of a ‘good character’
Misjudging people based on their presentation. Focusing on the difference in insignificant worshipping styles

Shaytan attacks from the left by:

Removing your motivation to engage in beneficial acts by slowing your ability to do good things. This way he has room to fill up your heart with bad things.
Eliminating the remembrance of Allah from your life so that you are not alarmed in Haram situations and to then fill your heart with despair.
By beautifying sins for you and pulling you towards his direction (the left). Ultimately deviating you from the path of Allah.
To convince us that you have no respect, that you are filthy and invaluable in the eyes…

What is a miracle in Islam? The classical scholars of Islam listed many conditions for something to be considered a miracle according to Islamic theology. The first one is that which is impossible for human beings to do or perform. A miracle has to be something that can’t be manufactured. The second thing is that it breaks the laws of nature.

The Qur'an speaks of Allah’s creation with the intent of inspiring reflection on the creation’s beauty and reflection on the subtlety, the mechanics, the design, the technology of creation, the technology behind the single leaf, the symmetry involved; the advanced technology in a single cell or an atom, how precise that is, right. It wants people to reflect on the subtlety of Allah’s design and Allah’s creation. The miracle is in the choice of words used or given to describe the creation.

“And the heaven: He raised it high, and He set up two Balances. In order that you may not transgress Balance. And observe the weight with equity and do not make the balance deficient.”
In the above verses 7-9 of Surah Ar Rahman, an important and essential truth that has been expressed is that Allah SWT has established the entire Universe precisely and equitably on the foundation of justice. This implies that everything is made by Allah in a perfect measure of balance and nothing is too less or in excess. As individuals, it is our duty to adhere to this balance in nature within our authorized limits and ensure that we do not transgress and disturb these boundaries.

In this session, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us on how to mentally break apart, to delineate the Muslim population, the community that we have and then take some advice from the Qur’an because the advice from the Qur’an applies to all of us. The counsel of the Qur’an and Sunnah via stories is not adhered to or taken in seriousness. And in our discourse, we have created an environment and a culture that is marked by disconnect which is actually detrimental. Lees meer

Allah said, ‘al husna’ which is the superlative form of the Arabic language, the very best and He didn’t say if the very best is for those who struggled in tough times and not so much for those who came afterwards and had easier struggle. So there are people that are going to be able to do a lot more than you and there are people who are able to do a lot less than you.

Hence, we should actually elevate the expectations of the person who is eager to learn and fathom the greatness of Islam without overburdening him or her by the greatness of the teacher.

Nobody had a larger burden on their shoulders than Rasoolullah ﷺ. No one in human history ever had it, and no one in the human future will ever have a larger burden than this man had to carry for 23 years, which is no time at all to do what he did. And yet when he is sending people on a mission to spread the word of Islam, he is telling companions,” yassiru wa la tu'assiru yassira wa la tu'assira.” ‘Make ease and don’t make difficulty.’

The optimism of the teacher is also a major point that is overlooked. We don’t talk enough about the optimism of the Messengers ﷺ. Allah never gives up on us, though we make the unforgivable mistake of doing exactly that. Parents, spouses, friends will give up on you. But Allah will not give up on us. People will judge and condemn as they please but Allah will never close your door. So, it is absolutely essential that we do not despair of the hope of goodness from Allah and will revive and rejuvenate our relationship with A…

Prophet Musa (AS) is the most commonly mentioned Prophet in the Noble Quran. Prophet Musa AS was born at the time of Fir’aun. Muslims believed in all Messengers of Allah SWT and Noble Books which were revealed to them. Prophet Musa (AS) was sent to the people of Israel to make them worship Allah SWT. Allah (SWT) says that the story of Musa (AS) and Firaun in the Quran is the truth. It is a story of political conspiracy and of oppression that knew no bounds. In the Noble Qur'an, Allah SWT says:
“We recite to you some of the news of Musa and Firaun in truth, for a people who believe. Verily, Firaun exalted himself in the land and made its people sects, weakening (oppressing) a group (i.e. Children of Israel) among them; killing their sons and letting their females live. Verily, he was of those who committed great sins and crimes, oppressors, tyrants.”
Ustadh also shares with us tidbits that belong to Surah Taha where the dialogue between Musa AS and Firaun is discussed and elucidated upon. Elaborating on various Ayahs of the Qur'an via the stories shared with us, in one such instance - we are intrigued as to who Musa AS is getting to meet? Allah! Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with an understanding of the reason behind accepting and rejecting the guidance based on understanding the Quranic psychology. There are two basic entities - Al-Aql or intellect related to mind and Qalb-the Heart. Lees meer

The intellect refers to understanding, thinking, reflecting, learning and recognizing and it’s always progressive irrespective of the age. The linguistic meaning of intellect is to tie up the emotions (lies in the heart) and restrain them. The other entity - the heart, its foremost quality is the remembrance of Allah, it also contains, fear, caution, love, ego, hate and all other forms of psychological diseases. But these qualities of the heart are not progressive, they move and fluctuate.

In the Noble Quran Allah has referred to the heart as a processor of information, particularly concerning emotions which attracts the attention to the relationship between the mind and the heart. Allah has made our heart clear, which recognize Him and His Sovereignty, that clearance of heart is called Fitrah’. But when this heart becomes ill with greed, jealousy, hatred, ego, and temptations it loses its Fitrah’. Our Fitrah’ wants to connect with the outside light that is Revelation but our Nafs won't let this happen easily. The soul of every human being is submitted to Allah. But the desires of Nafs which resides in the heart makes him deviate from the right path.
