Did Silicon Valley Lose the AI Election? // DIETMARs OPINION
4 november 2026 · 8 min
How divided government, state regulation, and local opposition to data centers could reshape America’s AI industry. Lees meer
The US midterm elections delivered surprising results. But beyond the immediate political consequences, what do they mean for AI companies, data centers, and the future of American artificial intelligence?
In this solo episode of Beginner’s Guide to AI, I examine why sweeping national AI regulation may remain unlikely while political pressure moves to states, governors, utility regulators, and local communities.
Texas offers an important case. New restrictions on data-center development could respond to concerns about electricity, water, pollution, and property rights. This does not necessarily mean the end of new data centers. It could mean longer approval processes, higher costs, environmental requirements, and more serious negotiations with affected communities.
🏗️ Key questions in this episode:
Will divided government preserve the federal status quo?
Could state regulation slow the rollout of AI?
Should AI firms compensate communities for infrastructure costs?
Can local rights and national AI ambitions coexist?
Could stronger regulation give China a competitive advantage?
Did Silicon Valley lose the first real AI election?
My argument is that AI firms will need more than capital and technical capability. They will also need community support and a political license to build.

Why AI Can Beat Grandmasters but Still Cannot Tie a Shoelace
2 november 2026 · 25 min
Moravec’s paradox: 🤖 vs. 🧔🏻 Lees meer
AI can defeat grandmasters, generate code, and analyse complex documents in seconds. Yet machines still struggle with abilities that humans use without conscious effort, such as opening a door, handling a soft object, understanding everyday context, or tying a shoelace.
This is Moravec’s paradox: tasks that humans consider intellectually difficult can be relatively easy for computers, while perception, movement, and common sense remain some of the hardest problems in artificial intelligence.
In this episode of A Beginner’s Guide to AI, we examine the difference between producing an intelligent answer and acting intelligently in the physical world. We look at the AI grounding problem, embodied intelligence, physical AI, robot perception, motor control, and the hidden limits of automation.
A cake experiment demonstrates what happens when a robot follows its instructions perfectly but fails to adjust to a softer or slipperier object. We also examine the DARPA Robotics Challenge, where advanced robots attempted to drive, open doors, use tools, cross obstacles, and climb stairs in a simulated disaster environment.
The episode asks an important business question: Are companies testing AI under realistic conditions, or are they being persuaded by polished demonstrations? Strong performance in one task does not guarantee common sense, adaptability, or reliability when the situation changes.

AI Could Give You 1,000 Hours Back. Then What? - Erika Debrah Reed
29 oktober 2026 · 49 min
AI and the future of work are usually discussed in terms of jobs, productivity, and disruption. Erika Debrah Reed wants us to ask a different question: what if AI gives us our time back? Lees meer
In this episode of Beginner's Guide to AI, Dietmar Fischer talks with Erika, author of The Gift of Time: How AI Transforms Your Purpose and Our World, about a future in which AI doesn't live only on our laptops.
Autonomous vehicles, robotics, household automation, and intelligent software could change the physical architecture of everyday life. Erika argues that when we add up the fragments of time spent commuting, handling administration, running errands, doing repetitive work, and managing household tasks, AI and automation could eventually return as much as 1,000 hours per year.
⏳ But getting time back creates another problem:
What are we going to do with it?
We explore why AI productivity doesn't automatically create a better life, why technology often raises expectations alongside efficiency, and why intentionality becomes increasingly important as automation grows.
🚗 We also move beyond ChatGPT and generative AI into physical AI.
Autonomous vehicles could turn commuting into usable time. Household robots could democratize services once largely reserved for wealthy households. And as AI makes digital content and experiences abundant, Erika predicts something counterintuitive: genuinely human-made products and analog experiences could command a premium.
We also discuss the Autonomous Divide, including differences in AI adoption between men and women and why organizations need to ensure that AI use is normalized rather than perceived differently depending on who uses it.
💡 In this episode:
• Why AI could give people hundreds of hours back
• What the “1,000 hours” argument really means
• Why physical AI may matter as much as generative AI
• How autonomous vehicles could democratize usable time
• Why AI productivity can create higher expectations instead of freedom

Agents Make Ideas More Valuable Than Execution - Dr. Alex Mehr
27 oktober 2026 · 47 min
🤖 AI agents for business could transform entrepreneurship by making execution faster, cheaper, and accessible to people without technical skills. Lees meer
In this episode of Beginner’s Guide to AI, Dietmar Fischer speaks with Dr. Alex Mehr, founder and CEO of Famous Labs, former NASA research scientist, and co-founder of Zoosk. Alex has worked with artificial intelligence since building neural networks during graduate school. Today, he is developing agents designed to turn ideas into products, marketing campaigns, and functioning businesses.
What happens when you no longer need a development team, marketing department, or complex collection of software tools to test an idea?
Alex argues that the entrepreneurial bottleneck is shifting. Execution used to be scarce. AI agents can now build websites and applications, create content, launch advertising, monitor campaign results, and modify landing pages. As those capabilities improve, original ideas and good judgment become more important.
The discussion also challenges one of the best-known concepts in startup culture: the minimum viable product. In a crowded market where polished products can be built quickly, Alex believes a visibly incomplete product may no longer produce meaningful validation.
You will learn:
🤖 Why an AI agent is more than a chatbot
💡 Why ideas could become the new business bottleneck
🚀 How founders can test products faster
📊 How AI agents could manage advertising and landing pages
⚰️ Why the traditional MVP may be outdated
🧠 Why creativity needs regular practice
🦾 Why physical robots remain far behind digital agents
⚠️ Why Alex believes AI risks are often overstated
This episode is for entrepreneurs, marketers, consultants, coaches, product teams, and anyone who wants to understand how agentic AI could change the process of building a business.

Do Football Clubs Understand Talent Better Than Companies? DIETMARs OPINION
25 oktober 2026 · 17 min
AI Is Breaking the Career Ladder Lees meer
If companies stop hiring beginners because AI can do junior work, who will become tomorrow’s senior talent?
Artificial intelligence can now perform many of the routine tasks traditionally assigned to junior employees. For an individual company, replacing some of that work with AI can look like an obvious efficiency gain.
But there is a problem.
Junior work is not only cheap labor. It is how people learn. It is how beginners gain experience, make mistakes, develop judgment, and eventually become the senior employees companies depend on.
In this solo thought episode, Dietmar Fischer compares the workplace with professional football. Successful clubs do not only buy established stars. They build academies, train young players, and give them time on the pitch. Companies need their own version of that system.
Anthropic recently reported that the share of junior employees among its technical hires fell sharply as the use of AI agents increased. A wealthy AI company may still be able to recruit senior talent from around the world. But what happens to smaller companies when the wider talent pipeline begins to dry up?
⚽ In this episode:
What football academies can teach companies about talent
Why AI threatens the path from junior to senior
How short-term savings can create a long-term skills shortage
Why demographics make the problem more urgent
How junior hiring can build employee loyalty
Why the market may not solve the problem by itself
What managers can do now
This is not an argument against AI. It is an argument for using AI without removing the development path that creates human expertise.

The Invisible Label: How AI Watermarking Will Change Digital Trust
23 oktober 2026 · 24 min
AI-generated images, voices, videos and text are becoming harder to distinguish from human-made content. AI watermarking promises to help by embedding an invisible signal that detection software can identify. But what does that signal really prove, and can it survive editing, compression or a determined attacker? Lees meer
In this episode of A Beginner’s Guide to AI, Prof. GePhardT examines how AI watermarking works across images, audio, video and text. We separate genuine watermark detection from unreliable attempts to guess whether something “looks like AI.” We also examine why a missing watermark cannot prove that a human created the content.
The EU AI Act has made this question urgent. Providers of relevant generative AI systems must make synthetic outputs machine-readable and detectable as artificially generated or manipulated. Watermarks are one possible solution, alongside metadata, digital fingerprints and cryptographic content provenance.
Google SynthID provides our real-world case. The system places imperceptible signals inside supported AI-generated media and allows users to check for them. It demonstrates that watermarking can work at enormous scale, but also reveals the limits of compatibility, robustness and public understanding.
🔍 What You Will Learn
How invisible AI watermarks are embedded into pixels, audio, video frames and text
Why watermarking is different from metadata and general AI detection
What Article 50 of the EU AI Act means for synthetic content
How Google SynthID and the SynthID Detector work
Why C2PA and Content Credentials matter
Whether AI watermarks can be removed

AI Isn’t Moving Too Fast. It’s Too Noisy - Nikolas Badminton
19 oktober 2026 · 56 min
🤖 Why AI Transformation Needs Intentionality, Not More Technology Lees meer
AI transformation is not about putting AI everywhere. Futurist Nikolas Badminton argues that successful organizations are becoming much more intentional about where AI creates value and where humans remain essential.
In this episode of Beginner’s Guide to AI, Dietmar Fischer speaks with Nikolas Badminton, Chief Futurist and Hope Engineer at Futurist.com, about moving beyond AI hype and building organizations that can actually handle technological change.
Nikolas argues that the world is not simply changing faster. It is getting noisier.
Behind the endless stream of AI models, agents and automation promises are the same difficult questions companies have faced for decades: people, processes, governance, data, culture and leadership.
So what changes when AI enters the picture?
We explore why going all in on AI can make employees work harder instead of less, why intentionality is becoming central to AI strategy, and why successful AI adoption is fundamentally a transformation project.
We also go beyond AI.
Nikolas introduces the idea behind his new book, The Hope Engineer’s Playbook: hope can become a practical energy for organizational change when leaders combine vision with pathways, agency and wisdom.
We discuss futures thinking, employee empowerment, sustainability, open-source AI, AI sovereignty and even science fiction as a serious strategic tool.
🎧 In this episode:
• Why AI feels faster and more chaotic than it really is
• Why leaders should stop trying to use AI everywhere
• The hidden organizational work behind AI transformation
• Why AI can increase employee workload
• Hope as an energy for change
• Why agency matters inside organizations
• Open-source AI and enterprise AI sovereignty
• Why sustainability and futures thinking belong in business strategy

AI Is Now the Business Standard. Are You Falling Behind? - DIETMARs OPINION
17 oktober 2026 · 10 min
🤖 AI has moved beyond technical teams and innovation labs. At Berlin’s BIG BANG KI Festival, Dietmar Fischer found packed stages, long queues, and business professionals searching for practical ways to implement artificial intelligence. Lees meer
In this solo episode of Beginner’s Guide to AI, Dietmar shares what he observed at the festival and what it tells us about AI adoption in the wider business world.
The dominant questions were practical. How can a company integrate AI into its CRM? How can it build useful AI agents? How can it turn individual tools into repeatable workflows? The audience was not limited to developers or AI specialists. It looked like the audience at any large business conference.
That shift matters. AI is no longer an unusual competitive advantage. It is becoming part of the expected business standard.
The festival also exposed the continuing gap between AI marketing and AI implementation. Many exhibitors used impressive language without clearly explaining what their products did. Interest in AI is high, but clear business value is still difficult to identify.
Dietmar also visits the robot arena, where humanoid machines dance and fight. The demonstration leads to a more serious question about how physical robots could change private security and other real-world services.
💡 In this episode:
What the BIG BANG KI Festival reveals about AI adoption
Why AI has entered mainstream business
What business professionals want from AI agents
Why CRM integration and AI workflows are becoming important
The gap between AI buzzwords and practical business value
What humanoid robots could mean for security
Why occasional AI use is no longer enough
How companies can move from AI tools to systematic implementation
The message is simple: companies must do more than use AI. They must learn to systematize it, connect it to real processes, and make it productive.
