Tour de France rivals Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard both began their seasons last week - both with instant success. Pogačar’s GC win in the UAE Tour came thanks to stage victories in the two mountain stages to Jebel Jais and Jebel Hafeet, while Vingegaard left it late with his final-day TT triumph in Portugal.

In part three of the episode, Larry updates us on an encouraging start to his season. We then premiere a new feature for the Classics season – Coorevits Corner – starring veteran Belgian reporter Hugo Coorevits.

In the February episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin, Rose Manley, Orla Chennaoui and Jo Rowsell pick over the UAE Tour, a race which often offers up some key insight for the season ahead. Plus we look at some of the junior world champions of the past in our mini feature. Lees meer

There’s plenty to discuss from the UAE Tour, as Elisa Longo Borghini took a commanding overall victory while Lorena Wiebes went almost unchallenged as she swept up all three sprint stages. Some other big favourites didn’t fare so well though. Pauline Ferrand Prévot has made no secret of her Tour de France Femmes ambitions since her comeback but was noticeably absent among the first finishers on the top of Jebel Hafeet. While the new line-up at FDJ-Suez failed to take home a top ten on any stage.

In our mini feature we speak to former and present junior world champions and see how they’ve fared since hitting the elite ranks. We hear from Lucy Van der Haar nee Garner who retired five years ago, Canyon-SRAM rider Zoe Backstedt, current junior champion Cat Ferguson and Laura Stigger who was scouted by Anna van der Breggen to join SD Worx this year.

Also on the agenda… more baby news, some deserved gloating by Jo and reminiscing over Orla’s car sickness.

Daniel Friebe, Lionel Birnie and Rob Hatch return to recap all the latest stories and racing as the stars of the international peloton commence their 2025 campaigns. In Oman, there’s a battle royale between two Frenchmen and an Englishman – and, ultimately, the same final result as in another recent sporting contest. We also discuss an excellent week for Colombian riders, with Egan Bernal and Santiago Buitrago both flying high. Finally, in the last part of the episode, we sink our teeth into the most controversial issue of the week – the exodus of top teams from the Étoile des Bessèges amid fears for riders’ safety but also for the future of small races in the sport’s heartlands. To bring a little perspective on that issue, we hear from Lidl-Trek’s directeur sportif in Bessèges, Steven de Jongh. Lees meer

We also look at the main takeaways from the GP Marseillaise, where teenage sensation Paul Seixas enjoyed a stunning debut for Décathlon-AG2R La Mondiale. It’s beginning to look a lot like… a bumper Christmas episode from The Cycling Podcast Féminin. In the true style of an old Christmas TV special, this episode has a bit of everything: chat, music, cameos from a few familiar voices and of course the feared and revered Christmas quiz. Lees meer

First up, Rose Manley, Denny Gray and Rebecca Charlton pull out their favourite moments from an exhilarating and sometimes contentious year of cycling. The hosts are spoilt for choice in a season which saw the closest ever finish to a Tour de France, an Olympic road race which came down to the final kilometre and a Classics season which saw the spoils divided among comeback queens and breakthrough stars. Add to that more than a few moments of team in-fighting playing out on the road and the result is one of the best racing seasons in memory.

Then Denny and Rebecca go head-to-head as we look to crown our 2024 Christmas quiz champion. There’s a brand new round this year - the 'What’s That Sound?' round to add to returning favourites 'Blankety Crank' and 'Cryptic Criterium'. And it wouldn’t be our Christmas quiz without some squabbling, upset and a deterioration in professionalism from all involved.

Also on the agenda: Mastermind board games, the Tour de Wandsworth and a Juliette Labous cocktail.

In this week’s episode of The Cycling Podcast, Daniel Friebe is on Fran Reyes’s home turf - Granada in southern Spain - and that pair is joined by Richard Abraham for another week of analysis and reflection on, yes, yet another Tadej Pogačar masterpiece, this time at the Tour of Lombardy. The build-up to the final Monument of the season had been enlivened or overshadowed - depending on your viewpoint - by Tom Pidcock’s shock exclusion from the INEOS line-up. We examine the likely consequences of that - and the possible reasons.

It’s then time for another attempt to contextualise arguably the finest cycling season of all time by a male rider, and certainly the most extraordinary since Eddy Merckx’s ‘cannibalistic’ reign.

No surprise, it was the newly crowned world champion, Tadej Pogačar, who would bring home the, er, oversized bacon-like sausage - quite literally as a large lump of the stuff was among his prizes.

We discuss that, look forward to Saturday’s Il Lombardia & also hear from Taco van der Hoorn about his remarkable comeback victory at the Betcity Elfstedenrace last week.

The build-up to the rainbow jersey showdown had been soured by the news of Swiss rider Muriel Furrer’s death after her crash in the junior women’s road race on Thursday. We start by paying tribute to Furrer and imagining what could be some of the learnings from the tragedy.

We then dissect Tadej Pogačar latest, superlative-defying performance on Sunday, examine some of those no-longer outlandish comparisons with Eddy Merckx and ponder what may be Pog’s next major goals.

With an inter-team rivalry at SD Worx that has been building all year, the race was expected to be a showdown between defending World Champion Lotte Kopecky and all-conquering Demi Vollering. But also lining up were Tour de France Femmes champion Kasia Niewiadoma and Giro d’Italia champion Elisa Longo Borghini who come to the race with renewed confidence this year. Young stars like Puck Pieterse and Neve Bradbury also had the chance to prove themselves with a World Champion U23 title on the line in the same race. With the rainbow bands at stake, who will reign supreme?

Remco Evenepoel’s victory sealed an historic Olympic-Worlds TT double…but the Belgian could yet achieve an even unlikelier feat if he adds Sunday’s road race title to the gold medal he earned in Paris in August. Tadej Pogačar nonetheless remains the favourite - and a first world title for him at the weekend would complete a remarkable sequence of his own: the same Giro-Tour-Worlds ‘Triple Crown’ that only Eddy Merckx and Stephen Roche have achieved before in men’s cycling.

The British team will hope that neither Pog nor Remco leaves Zürich with the (RR) rainbow jersey - and their head coach, Matt Brammeier, tells us what to expect on Sunday from the likes of Pidcock, the Yates brothers and Stephen Williams.

The Cycling Podcast Féminin is back! Returning for the first time since the Tour de France Femmes, Rose Manley and Denny Gray are this month joined by double Olympic gold medallist Jo Rowsell. Lees meer

We look back at the Tour de Romandie where Team SD Worx's Lotte Kopecky dramatically took the overall win at the expense of usual stage racing leader Demi Vollering, doing nothing to quell rumours of a shift at the team. We dig into some of the transfer speculation that has been rife among the women’s peloton and we look ahead to the World Championships at the end of September, picking out our top contenders for the relentlessly punchy parcours.

Our mini feature this month is on riders who grew up far from the traditional cycling heartlands. Kim Le Court of Mauritius, Antri Christoforou of Cyprus and Catalina Soto of Chile reveal their journeys to the professional ranks and what it is like to line up at most races as the sole representative for their nations.

Plus Jo faces the big question on everybody’s lips: is Belgium a cheese country?
