Erik Voorhees & ShapeShift
(DEX Aggregator, Regulation, Deplatforming, and the Bull Market)Erik Voorhees is the CEO of ShapeShift, a company offering exchange and trading infrastructure, but doesn't act like a typical exchange!
ShapeShift ( https://shapeshift.com/) used to be a place where one could atomically trade asset-for-asset. You would set up a trade between two different assets like BTC and ETH. ShapeShift would give you a BTC address to receive BTC, and you would give ShapeShift an Ethereum address for them to return ETH to you. ShapeShift never required you to 'deposit' your money, and never held onto users' funds!
It was a very popular product during the 2017 Bull Market, yet the company decided to implement KYC requirements, in a move to protect the company from legal liability.
It looks like ShapeShift has found a way to remove those KYC requirements without legal risk, and that is by becoming a DEX aggregator!

Rohan Grey is an assistant professor of Law at Willamette University, an Advisor to politicians including Rashida Tlaib, and one of the authors of the STABLE Act, which wants to impose Federal Bank Chartering upon any stablecoin issuer.
Interesting, this proposed legislation includes entities like Square's Cash App or PayPal! Anything that offers a claim on 1 Dollar is cited by this law.
Rohan and the STABLE Act appear to be an outgrowth of the rise of MMT and the power and ability of the state to solve economic problems like poverty and joblessness. Rohan wants to protect 'money', which he believes is a public institution that needs protecting!
Also interestingly, the goals of the STABLE Act and DeFi are highly similar, yet are opposing in their strategies for achieving these goals.

Jake Chervinsky on the recent FinCEN Proposed RulemakingFinCEN has finally released a long-rumored proposed rule on how crypto-asset custodians like Coinbase, Gemini, or Cash app can compliantly enable their users to take control over their cryptocurrency funds into 'self-hosted' or 'unhosted wallets'.
This new rule would impose new obligations on virtual asset service providers (VASPs) like exchanges & custodians and increase the reporting requirements on outbound transactions to their customers' wallets.

Defending Crypto from the STABLE Act | Coin Center's Jerry Brito and Peter Van Valkenburgh
Coin Center is a non-profit organization focused on public policy isues facing public blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
While Bitcoin and Ethereum are unstoppable internet networks, Nation States can still mediate our relationship with them, and therefore fighting the regulatory fight is extremely important!
Coin Center recently opened up their Gitcoin Grant https://gitcoin.co/grants/1668/coin-center-is-educating-policy-makers-about-publ which has received an outpouring of support.
Maybe it has to do with the STABLE Act? This act was recently introduced by Rashida Tlaib and others, in an attempt to add regulatory oversight to those that issue and leverage stablecoins.

36 - The DeFi Blockspace Cycle | Nic Carter
Nic Carter recently released an article titled "Public Blockchain Fee Cyclicality and Negative Feedback Loops"...
... simplified "transaction fees get higher, and that incentives people transact less, and then that lowers transaction fees and that incentives people to transact more"
According to Nic, there's no equilibrium found upon public blockchains with inflexible block size; the demand to purchase blockspace will always be volatile, across all time frames.
Another perspective: constraints on blockspace availability dramatically impacts the kind of usage that is feasible to happen on the base-layer blockchain.
Transactors who are transacting large transactions will pay for higher fees! This severely impacts the markets that are supported by public blockchains! Constraints on block space are constraints on market participants!
David, Ryan, and Nic go through Nic's process is disecting the data that created these conclusions. Nic gives his perspective as to the ultimate pattern that emerges from this data.
