Scattered / The Murder Of Tristian Lovelock
19 juni 2024 · 46 min
Marley pulled on the lead, eager to get to the shrubs at the side of the pathway. Even after being corrected, the dog continued to struggle towards the bushes. Curious to understand why Marley was so desperate to explore that particular spot, Victor parted a section of the hedge. The former RAF Firefighter was not easily alarmed, but he could not believe what he was seeing. It was a severed head... Lees meer

The Body In Drift Reservoir
16 juni 2024 · 19 min
Following the end of World War II, many projects that had been put on hold were resumed. Trewidden Vean and Nanquitho, areas between Penzance and Land’s End in Cornwall, were flooded to create Drift Reservoir. The 65-acre reservoir provides drinking water for West Penwith, and, over the years, has become increasingly popular with bird watchers. In 2018, record temperatures and a heat wave caused the water level to drop by almost three metres. The remnants of the Lost Valley were partially uncovered, but three years later, something much more sinister was brought to the surface of Drift Reservoir…. Lees meer

Missing and Murdered / Where Are Renee & Andrew MacRae?
12 juni 2024 · 1 uur 3 min
Emergency responders were relieved to find there were no casualties. The car had been abandoned. Puzzlingly, the vehicle was traced back to a mother who had left Inverness with her three-year-old son hours earlier. What initially seemed to be a burnt-out vehicle left after a joyride turned out to be so much more. It remained a mystery for over four decades… Lees meer

Limbs In The Loch / Barry Wallace / William Beggs
5 juni 2024 · 1 uur 1 min
It was cold and damp on the banks of Loch Lomond on the morning of December 6th 1999. Specialist officers from an underwater search unit of Central Scotland Police were preparing to take part in a training exercise in the highland lake northwest of Glasgow. Loch Lomond is the largest lake by surface area in Great Britain, spanning 22 miles between Central Scotland and the Highlands. The deep water at Rowardennan Pier reflected the sloping green hills surrounding the lake, but as divers went beneath the surface, they made a horrifying discovery… Lees meer

Butchered / The Murder of Latifa Lazaar
2 juni 2024 · 43 min
It was early on a warm Sunday morning, and very few cars were on the A22 road between Eastbourne and London. A motorcyclist pulled in on the grassy verge and ventured a few yards behind the tree line of Ashdown Forest. The sun shone down between the tall oak trees, casting shadows on the leafy ground. Something stood out amidst the earthy tones of the undergrowth. As the motorcyclist walked closer to the blue fabric that was poking out of the soil, he was overwhelmed by a foul smell... Lees meer

Suicide or Murder? / Ryan & Sandra James
22 mei 2024 · 54 min
The Burton Mail published the article in March 1990. A local couple had the good fortune of winning a Vauxhall Astra with two years' worth of free petrol. The accompanying picture is fuzzy. Sandra and Ryan James pose almost formally and rigidly while standing behind the vehicle with the garage owner poised to hand over the keys. The next time the couple were mentioned in the newspaper, it would not be for such joyous reasons… Lees meer

A Taste For Alcohol / Murder With A Champagne Bottle
19 mei 2024 · 25 min
The officer called out to identify himself, but there was no response from behind the closed door. He tried to open it but was met by resistance. After managing to wedge the bedroom door a few inches, PC Francis saw the body of an elderly man on the floor. Blood and brain matter were pooling around his head. As PC Francis radioed for support and the London Ambulance Service, he heard a voice say, “You’re too late. He’s been dead for an hour”... Lees meer

Double Jeopardy / Hazel Backwell / Wendell Baker
15 mei 2024 · 50 min
Hazel was safety conscious, but the fact that she was not answering the door made George concerned that something had happened to her, so he alerted the police. When officers gained entry to the property, they found a pile of boxes blocking a cupboard under the stairs. Faint cries pleading for help were coming from inside. The reality of what had happened to Hazel was far beyond what George could have ever imagined… Lees meer

Death In The Family
8 mei 2024 · 42 min
There is a timeless saying that bad things happen in threes. Some believe the superstition originates from the wartime phrase ‘Three on a match’ — which refers to three soldiers using the same match to light a cigarette. It was said that the light of the match would be seen by an enemy marksman, and by the time the third soldier lit their cigarette, they would be shot by the gunman who had them in their sights. While there is no scientific proof to support the notion that tragedies continue to happen three times in a row, there are certain stories where the belief rings true... Lees meer

Neighbour From Hell
5 mei 2024 · 47 min
A man in his mid-sixties wearing a light-coloured casual jacket and dark trousers caught the couple’s attention. Concerningly, he was clenching a piece of wood in his hand. Stephen slammed the brakes and got out of the vehicle. He realised another man was lying horizontally on the pavement, being struck about the head repeatedly with the length of wood. Blood was pooling on the path surrounding the injured man. Stephen instinctively yelled out, telling the assailant to stop. The attacker wrapped the wood in a plastic bag and turned to walk away. As he left the scene, he hollered back to the man he had just attacked: “You’ll not fucking do that again”... Lees meer

Unsolved / Elsie Frost
1 mei 2024 · 1 uur 5 min
Something caught Thomas’ attention at the bottom of a set of stone stairs known to locals as the ABC steps. Twenty-six stone platforms jutted out from the steeply sloping hill towards the canal towpath, a stone for each letter of the alphabet. A young girl was curled up at the bottom of the stairs, her legs folded beneath her as if she were crying. Thomas wondered if she was upset or had fallen, but the reality was far worse... Lees meer

Black Widow / A Killer's Tangled Web
24 april 2024 · 49 min
From the path, that quiet spot on Redcar Beach in North Yorkshire was concealed by sand dunes. As the tide was going out on the crisp morning of April 30th 1977, the body of a man was held in place by the saturated sand. Eventually, hours after the sun had come up, he was found. There were no apparent signs that he had been injured, and bystanders wondered what happened… Lees meer

A Long Road To Justice / The Murder Of Suzanne Greenhill
21 april 2024 · 43 min
Tony Wesson was looking forward to spending time with his fiancée, Suzanne. They both enjoyed working out at the local leisure club, and weightlifting was the perfect way to blow off some steam at 6 pm on a Friday evening. It was July 1st, 1988, and the sun was still shining over Tewkesbury Walk in the Shaftesbury area of Newport, Wales. Despite the nice weather, the curtains were closed inside Suzanne’s home. Using the key that Suzanne had given him, Tony unlocked the door to the flat and walked inside. The only light in the hall came from the sunbeams that shone through the bathroom window across from Suzanne’s bedroom. The rays of light drew Tony’s attention to something on the bedroom door, a bloodstain… Lees meer

Serial Killer? / Bible John - Part 2
7 april 2024 · 53 min
PLEASE LISTEN TO ‘SEASON 9 - EPISODE 1’ FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. After being linked to the murders of three women in Glasgow, the perpetrator seemed to be able to evade capture despite having one of the most well-known faces circulating in the press. Tens of thousands of statements were collected, and nearly one thousand suspects were interviewed. Due to the religious texts he quoted to a victim's sister, the nickname given to the prime suspect was Bible John. He was undetectable, but far from forgotten (Part 2 of 2)… Lees meer

Serial Killer? / Bible John - Part 1
3 april 2024 · 58 min
It was around 8 am on February 23rd, 1968, when a man walked down a service lane behind Carmichael Place in Glasgow. Every exhale immediately condensed into a cloud of mist that hung in the freezing air. The man’s car was parked in a lock-up on the lane, and he was looking forward to the last day of the working week. Before he could reach the vehicle, the man was stopped in his tracks by a strange sight... (Part 1 of 2) Lees meer

A Brutal Murder in Old Harlow / May Chambers / Ian Sherlock
27 maart 2024 · 22 min
The sun was shining, typical for early summer, and the Victorian house cast a shadow over the gravel garden path tucked between two cedar trees. May Chambers’ concerned friends knocked on the door and peered through the windows to try and get a glimpse inside. Finally, they found a way into the home and realised why no one had heard from May in days... Lees meer

On a cold and crisp winter's morning, January 25, 1970, the body of a young boy is found in a watery ditch at a farm near Ponteland in Northumberland. Conflicts In The Work Place / Attacks On Co-Workers
20 maart 2024 · 22 min
Conflicts in the workplace are not unusual. Co-workers don’t always see eye to eye, especially when their occupation is the only thing they have in common. On rare occasions, minor disputes can escalate to violent assaults. According to the Health & Safety Executive and the Office for National Statistics, almost 300,000 assaults were committed in the workplace between 2019 and 2020. While the majority of those attacks were committed by customers or strangers, 3% were committed by colleagues… Lees meer

Bogus Doctors & Forged Medical Qualifications
28 februari 2024 · 28 min
Becoming a doctor takes years of dedication and ongoing training. Patients who are physically or mentally unwell, rely on medical professionals, trusting them implicitly to guide them back to health when they are at their most vulnerable. Nonetheless, there are instances when appearances can be deceiving, times when the family doctor isn’t a doctor at all, using a medical title they are not qualified to claim, and ruthlessly risking the safety of unwitting patients for personal gain… Lees meer

Unsolved / Victoria Hall
14 februari 2024 · 49 min
By night, in the late nineties, The Bandbox club and Splitz bar had countless coatless young people lining up outside the doors to get inside. Often, the wait was cold in the biting North Sea air; partygoers shuffled slowly in the queue as bouncers decided who could get in, but this didn’t deter people from hanging around. By day, Felixstowe in Suffolk is more slow-paced — tourists and retirees enjoy fish & chips, ice cream and blue flag beaches. Life is peaceful. Be that as it may, a senseless murder in 1999 was one of the biggest and most complex cases officers in the port town ever had to investigate… Lees meer

In December 2017, Birmingham was hit by a storm that left up to 12 inches of snow on the ground, forcing schools to shut and public transport to grind to a halt. The weather was still warm at 2:30 am, and unusually, a married local couple decided it was a good time to go for a scenic stroll past the mansion and gardens in Valentines Park. 14 januari 2024 · 46 min
It was a typical room for a teenage boy in the 1980s; football programmes on his desk with his homework, a well-used Amstrad HI-FI system with a tape cassette and radio, used to record the top chart hits on a Sunday, hitting the pause button before the DJ fades back in. Posters of his favourite musical acts covered the walls; Mel and Kim, T'Pau, Madonna, Samantha Fox — standard fare in 1988. His single bed, pushed against the wall of his cosy room, with his black pyjama bottoms tucked neatly under his pillow to wear the next night, but there would not be a next night… Lees meer

Deadly Greed & A Stolen Inheritance / Annie Garbutt / Joanne Hussey
10 januari 2024 · 56 min
Emergency responders arrived within minutes and approached the two-bedroom cottage. Joanne was waiting for them at the door, before leading them upstairs to her grandmother's bedroom. The paramedics pulled back the quilt and found the frail pensioner lying on bloody sheets. Blood spatter covered the walls near the bed. Due to the highly suspicious nature of Annie’s death, the police were immediately contacted… Lees meer

The Killer Next Door / Sheila Attwood / Horace Carter
3 januari 2024 · 39 min
The summer flowers were in full bloom when Edith Ford and her teenage daughter Doreen strolled to the bottom of the long and narrow communal garden to pick a bouquet of wildflowers. Their eyes were drawn away from the plants and foliage, towards the ground. Two tiny bare legs protruded from the other side of a hedge near a public works yard. Was this the child so many people had spent the night looking for? Just two doors down from Edith Ford’s home, neighbours heard screaming. Edith was wailing, “I can't have seen it. I can't have seen it”... Lees meer

Murdered After A Christmas Party / Lorraine Benson
31 december 2023 · 52 min
Women in southwest London lived in terror after a string of sex attacks on lone commuters travelling from Waterloo to Kingston. The police were desperately trying to locate a man believed to be responsible for half a dozen rapes over a three-month period in late 1988. Just days before Christmas, it seemed the rapist had crossed another line: he was now a murderer… Lees meer

Should A Sadistic Killer Ever Be Released? / The Murder Of Joanne Tulip
27 december 2023 · 44 min
A man in his early twenties stood at the side of the road waving at the passing cars to get attention — eventually, a vehicle with two men inside parked up beside the desperate motorist. The would-be rescuers jumped out of their car and approached the man who stopped them. He opened his mouth to speak, something that he would come to regret. The smell of alcohol from his breath hit their nostrils. They knew he had been drinking, and the two police officers were going to do something about it… Lees meer

A 1950s Murder in Edgbaston - Part 2 / Patrick Joseph Byrne
20 december 2023 · 55 min
PLEASE LISTEN TO ‘SEASON 8 - EPISODE 31’ FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. One of the most horrific murders in Birmingham’s history occurred two days before Christmas in 1959. During the seven weeks that followed, hundreds of officers interviewed thousands of men in what was then the most extensive murder inquiry the city had ever seen. The investigators utilised a number of unprecedented techniques to try and track down the killer, but it seemed as though a routine house call was all that was needed to break the case… (Part 2 of 2) Lees meer

Seduction, Theft & Murder / The Killing Of Joan Beddeson
6 december 2023 · 50 min
The latter years of a person’s life unfortunately involve making arrangements for when they die. These arrangements typically include organising their finances, writing a will, and planning a funeral. Thankfully, services exist that can assist in these situations, but as is often the case during this time, a vulnerable person can be susceptible to being exploited. Some people are willing to prey on the elderly in order to better their own situation, and some will go even further than taking money… Lees meer

Bizarre Love Triangle / The Murder Of Paul Spickett
3 december 2023 · 36 min
In February 1974, a two-and-a-half-year-old went missing. For four hours, dozens of police officers and relatives of the toddler searched the area. His older brother had been looking after him while they were out playing but came home not knowing where his sibling was. The youngster was eventually found, peacefully asleep in the long grass a short distance from his home. It was an incredible relief for his worried family. Unfortunately, this happy ending wouldn’t be granted in the case of another boy who went missing around 40 miles away, a day earlier… Lees meer

Dan Brockley was driving along Woodside Road, close to Woodsome Hall Golf Club in Huddersfield, when a woman stumbled out of the tree line and into the road. It was dark and quiet when the female suddenly appeared, shortly before midnight on Saturday, May 28, 2011. Dan instinctively slammed his foot against the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt. The woman scrambled to the passenger side door and pleaded with him to let her in. She was visibly distressed and dishevelled. When Dan took a chance and opened the door, the woman said her name was Michelina, and someone had just tried to kill her… Lees meer

Beaten, Stripped & Left To Die / The Killing Of Pat Ward
19 november 2023 · 52 min
There was no evidence that the stranger was alive — no slow rise and fall of the stomach or chest, not even a hint of cold morning air visible from his mouth. A Shooting In Furneux Pelham / Colonel Riley Workman
15 november 2023 · 1 uur 13 min
The television series ‘Midsomer Murders’ has been on-air since 1997. In a fictional rural setting, each episode of the British crime drama sees an individual harbour dark secrets as part of the ongoing whodunnit murder mystery. In a curious twist of life imitating art, the picturesque village of Furneux Pelham in Hertfordshire became an unwitting backdrop for a real-life murder mystery in 2004. An elderly man had been found dead on the front doorstep of his Grade II listed cottage. News outlets dispatched reporters to Furneux Pelham, and the media began to draw parallels between the murder and the fictional television series. As time passed and the crime went unsolved, life in Furneux Pelham slowly returned to normal. However, sometime later, a jailhouse confession would thrust the village back into the spotlight… Lees meer

The ceilings were low, and the space was cosy in the 15th-century Woolpack Inn pub. Two couples were enjoying their evening meal when a commotion caught their attention.
