Episode 3 - Yugi & the Tengu
4 oktober 2026 · 23 min
Hello Story Lovers! Lees meer
Today's story from Japan and features a wonderful creature from Japanese myth and legend – the Tengu!
Tengus are supernatural beings with special powers and magical items. They can be depicted as part man, part bird, even as part monkey, and they have often been painted or drawn with red faces and long noses or beaks. They are not to be trifled with, as you will soon find out. If you want to find out more about Tengus you can do so HERE.
We love Geraldine McCaughrean's version of the story - 'Never Tangle with a Tengu', which Emily heard as a child and we owe credit to.

The little song we sing is a French Cajun ditty. The lyrics are quite horrid but also funny:

Aboriginal people of Australia believe that the Dreamtime was way back, in the very beginning of time. Everything was created by ancestor spirits. They made the rivers, streams, water holes hills, rocks, plants and animals. They believe the earth is sacred, and should be honoured and protected. Episode 7 **Christmas Special - Aladdin Part 1**
20 december 2025 · 54 min
Merry Christmas Story Lovers! We are so excited to bring you our two-part CHRISTMAS SPECIAL! Lees meer
This is our version of Aladdin and his Magic Lamp.
Here in the UK, we have a great tradition of Pantomime, and the story of Aladdin is very popular at Christmas! It's also a request from one of lovely patrons.
You’ve probably seen the Disney version of Aladdin, but the older versions are a bit different.
The story appears in later versions of the 1001 nights, or the Arabian nights, but it's actually not part of the early collection. It appeared in the 1700s and is thought to come from storyteller Hanna Diyab - but who knows where he got it from!
You can find out more about the origins of Aladdin HERE.
Make sure to listen out on Christmas Eve for PART TWO of this epic adventure - we'll also have a story from lovely Kim Normanton from Super Great Kids Stories as an extra Christmas treat. Yippee!
