Did you think we wouldn't pull out all the stops for Max Fun Drive 2020? More fool you! Because in this episode, we discuss legendary Hollywood flop and Bruce Willis passion project, Hudson Hawk! And to discuss this momentous film, we're joined by Roman Mars, of the blockbuster design podcast 99% Invisible, the man many have called "The Hudson Hawk of Podcasting."* (The character Hudson Hawk. Not the movie Hudson Hawk. Because the character is so good at his job. Like Roman. Who is good at podcasting. Like Hudson Hawk is with stealing stuff.) Lees meer

Ep# 311: Rambo: Last Blood
25 april 2020 · 2 uur
Guys, we're so excited for our guest this episode. He's a big-time Hollywood gent who's worn many hats -- and to name just a few: he wrote and directed About a Boy. As an actor, he co-starred as "Chuck" in Chuck and Buck. He was one of the producers of The Farewell. The man co-wrote a Star War (Rogue One), for Pete's sake! And, as we never get tired of reminding him, he directed Twilight: New Moon. But up until now, he's been missing one line on his resume -- Flop House guest. I'm sure now he weeps, for he has no worlds left to conquer. Chris Weitz is on this episode! And we're sorry we made him talk about Rambo: Last Blood! Meanwhile the rest of us do some shit. Ep. #308 - Verotika
21 maart 2020 · 1 uur 34 min
Please read... bear with us on this one -- this was originally intended to be our Maximum Fun Drive episode, before the world exploded. So it may seem a little choppy in places, where we chopped out some fairly extensive MFD talk* (also there's some minor equipment/audio interference toward the end -- sorry). Thank you to our intrepid editor Jordan Kauwling for going above and beyond. Anyway, even though this would normally not be a full episode week, we thought we'd post it now anyway, to help keep folks' spirits up, and if you're wondering why we don't even mention the GIANT GLOBAL PANDEMIC, it's because we taped it before shit got real. Lees meer
Anyway... OH WHAT AN EPISODE. We're joined by screenwriter and Switchblade Sisters host, April Wolfe, to discuss Wolverine himself, Glenn Danzig's directorial debut, Verotika -- an anthology of "sexy" (?) horror tales. And this time we even managed to give April a working microphone!
Brief content warning: because this is an "erotic" horror movie by Danzig, there are some references to violence against women. Honestly, the movie is so incompetent that the awful stuff mostly seems ridiculous in context, but if any reference to that is upsetting, be aware (the episode keeps it to a minimum).
* As Jesse notes at the top of the show, the MFD has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, although members should have gotten information to access the bonus content for this year, including The Flop House's "lost" episode on the movie Life (the Jake Gyllenhaal one, not the Eddie Murphy one), and a Judge John Hodgman where the learned judge adjudicates whether Elliott can drag Dan's Twitter jokes. If you still want to become a member, you can go to maximumfun.org/join and become a sponsoring member of the community at any time -- during this pandemic we want to take care of yourselves first and foremost, (and probably second and third too). Then if you have anything extra, donate to disaster relief. But if you're fortuna…

20 juli 2019 · 1 uur 42 min

Meanwhile Dan talks a surprising amount about the Scarlet Pimpernel, Elliott talks about why the Sheriff of Nottingham's goons are a superstitious, cowardly lot, and Stuart is F. Murray Enthusiastic. Ep. #288 - The Haunting of Sharon Tate
6 juli 2019 · 1 uur 50 min

Life gives, and life takes. Meanwhile, Stuart hijacks the podcast to discuss the TV show "Younger," Dan shows his shameful lack of knowledge about the Manson murders, and masterful singer Natalie is somehow delighted by Elliott's caterwauling.
