  4. Finding Your Voice: Creativity, Calling & Using the Gifts God Gave You

    8 september 2026 · 48 min

    Afspelen
Because we’re made in the image of a creative God, creativity isn’t reserved for artists, musicians, writers, or preachers. It can show up in a sermon, a song, a beautiful room, a meal, or even a really good spreadsheet. We all reflect something of God’s order, beauty, and goodness in the things we make and the ways we serve. Lees meer

In this episode, we talk about our own creative processes. Matt shares how he approaches sermon writing, why he needs time to steep with the Lord in a text, and what he’s learned from the seasons when he tried to preach like someone else. Lauren talks about songwriting, writing books and Bible studies, design, comparison, and the way creativity often begins for her with a sense that the Lord is stirring something that eventually needs to be brought to life.

Our hope is that this conversation gives you permission to be curious about how God has made you. You don’t have to create like somebody else. Pay attention to the gifts He’s given you, keep growing in them, and then make something and share it for the good of others and the glory of Jesus.

  5. Chadd Wright: What Fatherhood Is Teaching a Navy SEAL About Surrender

    25 augustus 2026 · 1 uur 5 min

    Afspelen
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Chad Wright—former Navy SEAL, ultrarunner, founder of 3 of 7 Project, husband to Brooke, and brand-new dad—to talk less about the accomplishments people know him for and more about what following Jesus looks like in the ordinary places of life. Lees meer

Chad shares what the SEAL teams taught him about patience, endurance, and staying in the fight when things get hard—and what he’s had to unlearn about pride and self-sufficiency. We talk about the ways marriage and fatherhood expose our illusion of control, why weakness can actually be a gift, and the difference between asking God to give us strength and asking Him to be our strength.

We also get into sanctification and why becoming like Jesus is fundamentally different from another self-improvement project. Chad opens up about the dangers of building a platform, the temptation to protect an image, and the importance of repentance when we get it wrong. And as new parents, Chad and Brooke are learning in real time how to remain husband and wife while becoming mom and dad—a conversation that takes us back into some of the hardest years of our own marriage.

This conversation is a reminder that sometimes the Lord’s deepest work doesn’t happen through extraordinary achievement. Sometimes it happens in weakness, interrupted plans, sleepless nights, repentance, and the slow work of being conformed into the image of Christ.

    11 augustus 2026 · 56 min

    Afspelen
In this episode, we’re telling the story of Storied Provisions—an idea that sat in Lauren’s heart for years before the Lord brought the right people, place, and timing together. Lees meer

What started as a desire to create something beautiful, hospitable, and rooted in community eventually became Storied Provisions, a coffee shop, bakery, mercantile, and gathering space. But the story is really about more than opening a business. Lauren and our friend and co-founder Sara Keene share how two separate dreams began to converge, how the Lord provided people with complementary gifts, and what it looked like to keep saying yes when neither of them had the whole picture.

We talk about discerning a dream from God without trying to force it, doing something with the Lord instead of simply for Him, and learning to trust Him through closed doors, changing plans, financial pressure, and plenty of moments where we felt in over our heads. We also get into the beauty—and difficulty—of building something with other people: knowing your strengths, being honest about your weaknesses, navigating old wounds and insecurities, and choosing vulnerability before tension has a chance to turn toxic.

One of the sweetest parts of this story has been seeing that the Lord dreamed a better dream than we could have dreamed for ourselves. Storied has become a place where truth, beauty, goodness, hospitality, meaningful work, and community all meet—and where the Lord continues to shape the people building it just as much as the thing being built.

Our hope is that if the Lord has put something on your heart, you’ll be encouraged to hold it with open hands, invite others into it, and trust Him with what it becomes.

    23 juni 2026 · 49 min

Brooke Ledbetter joins us to talk about a journey that many people quietly walk through—depression, anxiety, loneliness, and the surprising gift of friendship. Brooke shares how a painful college breakup opened the door to a season of depression, how anxiety and social fear followed, and how God met her through His Word, wise counseling, medication, and, perhaps most powerfully, the faithful presence of Christian friends. Lees meer

We talk about the role of community in healing, what it looks like to let people carry your burdens when you can’t carry them yourself, and the moment God used a simple prayer gathering to bring a dramatic turning point in Brooke’s story. Along the way, we discuss friendship with Jesus, why deep relationships require vulnerability and conflict, and how isolation can quietly keep us from the healing God intends.

Whether you’re longing for deeper friendships, struggling with depression or anxiety, or simply wondering how to cultivate meaningful relationships in a disconnected world, we hope this conversation encourages you to keep moving toward Jesus and His people.

We sat down with our friend Mike McCalley, whose story both challenged and encouraged us. Mike shares how a simple conversation with his son exposed a deeper spiritual and physical drift that had quietly settled into his life. What began as an inability to run a quarter mile became a journey of repentance, renewed stewardship, and ultimately completing the Leadville 100—a grueling 100-mile mountain race. Lees meer

Along the way, we talk about the connection between physical discipline and spiritual vitality, the dangers of settling for “good enough,” and how God often uses small acts of obedience to awaken us to bigger things. Mike also shares powerful lessons about failure, perseverance, community, marriage, and the importance of telling ourselves the truth without getting trapped in shame.

More than a story about fitness, this is a conversation about stewardship, sanctification, and what it looks like to pursue all that God has for us—one faithful step at a time.

  9. Answering Your Questions on Parenting

    26 mei 2026 · 1 uur 1 min

    Afspelen
In this episode, we answer listener-submitted parenting questions covering everything from discipline and consequences to neurodivergence, school choices, overprotection, family devotions, and having ongoing conversations with our kids about sex and growing up. The questions are thoughtful, tender, and honest — which honestly reflects how parenting feels most days. Lees meer

More than anything, we wanted this Q&A to feel freeing. Parenting can carry so much pressure, especially in a culture where everyone seems to be processing childhood wounds and trying not to repeat mistakes. We’ve definitely gotten things wrong, and we’re still parenting in real time with kids who are all wildly different from one another. But over and over again, we’ve found that the kindness of Jesus meets us there.

We talk about learning to love the kid you actually have instead of the one you imagined, how discipline and grace aren’t enemies, why curiosity matters more than control, and how apologizing to our kids has probably preached the gospel louder than any formal family devotional.

Our hope is simple: that this episode would take some pressure off, remind you there are no perfect parents, and encourage you to keep walking closely with Jesus as you parent the children He’s entrusted to you.

    Afspelen
In this special bonus episode, we share a full chapter from Matt’s upcoming book, Becoming Like Jesus — the chapter readers asked for most: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Lees meer

In it, Matt talks about what it means to grieve honestly before God in a world that constantly pushes us toward distraction, comfort, and numbness. This chapter explores how mourning shapes us into people who are tender toward both our own sin and the brokenness around us.

We’ll reflect on the old Puritan prayer for “the gift of tears,” the way sin deforms and distorts the human soul, and how easy it is in our internet-saturated age to become overwhelmed, cynical, or emotionally shut down. But Jesus doesn’t call us to harden ourselves. He invites us into deeper communion with Him through repentance, compassion, and presence with hurting people.

More than anything, we hope this episode reminds you that comfort is not found in avoiding sorrow but in meeting Jesus there. His presence, His promises, and His redemption are enough for every kind of mourning.

In this episode, we’re diving into Matt’s new book Becoming Like Jesus: The Everyday Journey to Living a Life of Holiness. We unpack how sanctification isn’t a moment or a light switch—it’s a lifelong process. We share why so many of us get discouraged when suffering or struggle shows up, and how that might actually be part of God’s good work in us. We also talk through the Beatitudes as a framework for understanding what Jesus is forming in us over time.

More than anything, we hope this conversation reminds you that you’re not behind, you’re not disqualified, and you’re not alone. If you don’t quit—if you keep bringing your whole self to Jesus—you’re actually right in the middle of the journey He’s using to make you more like Him.

  12. How to Walk Through Seasons of Suffering

    14 april 2026 · 59 min

    Afspelen
In this episode, we talk about suffering—not just as a hard part of life, but as a real part of life in a fallen world. We share some of our earliest memories of suffering, the seasons that disoriented us, and the ways God has met us in both sudden storms and long stretches of pain. From grief and betrayal to illness, relational heartache, and unanswered prayers, we try to talk honestly about what it looks like to suffer without pretending. Lees meer

We also spend time in Psalm 107 and the different kinds of suffering it describes—wandering, oppression, folly, and storms—and how those categories help us make sense of our own lives. Along the way, we talk about lament, community, sustaining grace, and the kindness of bringing our real hearts before the Lord instead of a polished version of ourselves.

Our hope is simple: if you’re in a season of suffering right now, you’d feel encouraged to keep crying out to God, keep looping in the saints, and keep trusting that even here, He is at work.

In this episode, we’re talking about what we’re seeing and sensing right now—both in the Church and out in the world. It really does feel like something is happening. From college campuses to local churches, there’s a growing hunger for God that we haven’t seen in a long time. Lees meer

We’re watching people—especially Gen Z—wake up to the reality that what the world promised isn’t enough. There’s a search for something real, something transcendent. And by God’s grace, many are finding that in Jesus.

At the same time, we’re also seeing the Church reawaken to its need for the power of God. Not just good sermons or great worship, but genuine dependence on the Holy Spirit through prayer, fasting, and repentance. We’ve felt that in our own lives too—this deeper awareness that we can’t manufacture what only God can do.

So this episode is really an invitation: pay attention to where God is moving, draw near to it, and ask Him to do it in you. We don’t want to sit on the sidelines and watch—we want to be part of it.

  14. The Perfectionism Trap

    17 maart 2026 · 36 min

    Afspelen
In this episode, we talk honestly about perfectionism—what it looks like when your identity is built on performance, and how exhausting that kind of striving can become. Lauren shares how, from childhood, she felt driven to succeed: getting the best grades, being first chair in band, doing everything “right,” and eventually trying to be the perfect Christian, worship leader, and mom. Lees meer

But underneath all that achievement was a deeper desire for glory—her own glory. And that pursuit can quietly shape the way we see ourselves, our failures, and even the people around us.

We discuss how God began to expose that in Lauren’s life through music, ministry, and eventually Celebrate Recovery. What looked like success on the outside was actually fueled by fear, shame, and the pressure to prove she was enough. The turning point came through rediscovering the gospel—not just that Jesus died for our sins, but that He also lived the perfect life we couldn’t live and gives us His righteousness.

That realization changes everything. It frees us to admit weakness, ask forgiveness, and stop striving to prove ourselves. We talk about Martin Luther’s idea of the “theology of glory” versus the “theology of the cross,” and how learning to embrace weakness has actually opened the door to deeper joy, healthier relationships, and more freedom in parenting, ministry, and everyday life.

In this episode of Between Sundays, Lauren and I talk about something that’s foundational to life in Christ but often overlooked: friendship. God made us for connection. You and I were not designed to walk this life alone, and yet so many of us are doing just that. We unpack the epidemic of loneliness, how real transformation happens in community, how to pursue meaningful friendships, and how to discern who is safe to be vulnerable with. It’s not easy. It takes time. It takes risk. But it is also worth it. Our hope is that this conversation gives you vision and practical tools to form the kind of deep, gospel-centered friendships we all need. What started as casual drinking turned into dependence, deceit, and despair. Ashley shares what it was like to live with a man she barely recognized, and JP walks us through the moment of surrender that led to healing. This isn’t just about sobriety—it’s about learning to recognize the lies you may be believing and the power of Jesus to meet us in our mess, pull us out, and redeem what feels too far gone. From life growing up to the trauma of combat, and from isolation to post-traumatic growth, this conversation is raw, redemptive, and real. In this episode, I sat down with Mason King and Nick Crawford—two of my fellow elders at The Village—to talk about plurality. Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s biblical, and because it has been a safeguard in my ministry. Early on, I had all the power, all the control—and I knew it. It was efficient, it was fast, and it was dangerous. So we talk about why one-man leadership is a bad idea, what true elder plurality actually looks like, and how it’s protected us, humbled us, and served the body over the years. If you’re planting a church, rethinking leadership, or just wondering how to build something that lasts—this one’s for you. Lees meer

Man, today’s episode is rich. I’m sitting down with Dr. Michelle Bowman—an educator, leader, and sister in Christ who has walked through the fire and come out on the other side with her joy still. Her story? It’s not the cleaned-up version. It’s real. Ten years of struggle, a marriage that ended in heartbreak, and a journey back into the family of faith, not with shame but with strength. Lees meer

What you’ll hear in Michelle is the kind of resilience that only comes from walking with Jesus through deep pain. From idolizing marriage to embracing her calling as a spiritual mother, she’s living proof that you can lose everything the world calls secure and still gain something far better—belonging, joy, and purpose in Christ.

If you've ever felt like your story disqualifies you, let this be a holy disruption. There’s healing here, and it starts by stepping into the light. Keep your eyes up.

In this episode of The Overcomers, I sit down with Colleen Searcy and Ryan Wester for a really honest, meaningful conversation about calling, faith, and what it looks like to lead in the local church as a woman. Lees meer

Colleen grew up in a home shaped by deep faith. Her grandfather didn’t just teach her the Apostles' Creed—he lived it. From early on, she was being discipled, not just taught. Her story is one of steady formation in the gospel. Ryan’s journey, on the other hand, is very different. She came from a background marked by pain and dysfunction, and yet God broke in with redeeming grace, drawing her out of darkness and into life and ministry.

Their stories are so different, but both are powerful testimonies of God’s faithfulness—and of how He calls women into ministry through all kinds of paths. We dig into some of the challenges women face in ministry—especially in places where their gifts haven’t always been recognized or encouraged. Colleen and Ryan talk about how discipleship and spiritual friendship helped them navigate that space and step into their calling with clarity and courage.

I want the Church to be a place that sees the gifts God’s given His daughters and cheers them on as they lead, teach, disciple, and serve the church. Because when women walk in their Spirit-given calling, the whole body flourishes.

This conversation reminded me—again—that the Spirit of God is doing something beautiful in and through the lives of women at The Village and beyond. And I’m grateful I get to witness it.

In this conversation, we explore the healing power of Gospel community, the beauty of restored relationships, and the truth that no one is ever too far gone. If you or someone you love is struggling, Danny’s story will point you to hope, healing, and the One who breaks every chain.

  47. Common Questions about the Book of Revelation

    7 mei 2024 · 15 min

Could the book of Revelation be more comforting than confounding, more hopeful than horrifying? On this episode, I’m tackling some of the most common questions asked about the book of Revelation. From overcoming anxiety around the book, to the rapture, to the end times — I walk through what the book says and doesn’t say. I hope to dispel some of the mystery and offer a hopeful vision for the believer. Lees meer

This is not just about end times; it's a heartening portrayal of the eternal fulfillment that believers can look forward to; a future that is far more about promise than apocalyptic dread.

  48. Overcoming False Gospels with Russell Roberts

    29 april 2024 · 45 min

    Afspelen
We've been walking through the four horsemen of the apocalypse, and if you'll remember, the first horse is a white horse and its rider has a white robe and a crown. It looks like Jesus, but it's not Jesus. And so I said in Episode 1 that this rider is like an antichrist. It comes presenting itself as a gospel but it's no gospel at all. And one of the ways this plays itself out is outside the church is false gospels — this will save you or this will make your life complete, But inside the church it looks like heresy. It takes some aspect of what's true about God and it twists it. Lees meer

My friend Russ Roberts, trying to find his way out of a markedly rebellious lifestyle, found himself entwined in the alluring yet misleading doctrines of the International Church of Christ. His experience serves as an example of the perils that lurk within seemingly pious communities, where the truth of Jesus Christ's message can be obscured by well-crafted imitations. It’s a journey marked by small, deliberate steps of obedience, much like Peter’s, filled with inevitable stumbles yet propelled forward by the redeeming power of Christ's love.

My prayer is that through this series you will discover and be reminded of the hope and courage available to overcome life's challenges through the finished work of Christ.

  49. Guarding Against the Conflict and Anger of the Red Rider

    23 april 2024 · 10 min

    Afspelen
On this episode, we will examine the red horse and its rider from Revelation 6 — an emblem of war and rage. It seems like everywhere we look there is war happening. But it's not just global conflicts that I want to examine; I want to turn the lens inward. I want to draw your attention to the reality that these bloody conflicts and war is never far from our souls. There is a violence that that can bubble up in us at any moment if we're not careful. The enemy of the end-times want to divide and sow conflict and I want to challenge you to fight for a Church that wields the spiritual armor of meekness and kindness in a world all too familiar with violence and rage. 50. Rejecting the False Gospel of the White Rider

    16 april 2024 · 25 min

This season I’ll be talking through some of the topics from my latest book, The Overcomers. In this episode I’m addressing what the White Rider represents in the book of Revelation. I’ll unpack the subtle dangers of false gospels infiltrating Christian thought—be it the illusive pursuit of self-actualization or the distorted focus on health and wellness over spiritual depth. And how these deceptions can lead us astray from true worship and understanding of Jesus. Lees meer
