"The Apprentice"
16 oktober 2024 · 1 uur 28 min
For this week's second podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham & Giovanni Lago to review and discuss the latest film from Ali Abbasi, "The Apprentice," starring Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, Maria Baklava & Martin Donovan. After having its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Abbasi's "Rise of Donald Trump" biopic drama sat without distribution, got stuck in legality issues, and came under heavy scrutiny from supporters (and yes, even opposers) of Donald Trump, leaving us to wonder if the film would ever be released. Well, now, it's finally playing in theaters from Briarcliff Entertainment, and we are here to give you our SPOILER-FILLED thoughts on the performances, writing, direction, awards season chances, and implications the film may or may not have on the election and how the outcome of the election may influence whether audiences even watch the film. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Lees meer

"Rumours" had its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its off-beat humor, entertaining ensemble, which includes names like Cate Blanchett, Charles Dance, Alicia Vikander, Denis Ménochet and more, and hazy, dream-like direction that combines multiple genres. Directors/Screenwriters Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson were kind enough to talk with us about their latest film during the New York Film Festival, which will open in theaters on October 18th from Bleecker Street. "The Substance"
25 september 2024 · 2 uur 9 min
For this week's third podcast review, I am joined by Nadia Dalimonte, Lauren LaMagna, Alyssa Christian & Dan Bayer to review and discuss the newest film from Coralie Fargeat, "The Substance," starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley & Dennis Quaid. After its world premiere at Cannes, where it won the festival's Best Screenplay prize, many have been anxiously awaiting to experience what is considered a new body horror classic and one of 2024's very best films. The film is an onslaught of maximalist filmmaking with grotesque imagery, impactful sound, and dramatically effective performances mixed with a satirical tone that pokes at our preconceived notions of beauty, aging, and self-image. What did we think of it? Tune in as we discuss the performances, writing, direction, makeup effects, its awards season potential, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. "Speak No Evil"
14 september 2024 · 59 min
For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham & Cody Dericks to review and discuss the American remake of the 2022 Danish film "Speak No Evil," also titled "Speak No Evil" starring James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, Aisling Franciosi, Alix West Lefler, Dan Hough, Kris Hichen & Motaz Mulhees. Written and directed by James Watkins, this Blumhouse-produced remake is highly similar to the original film until its finale. What did we think of it? How do the two films compare? What did we think of the performances? Will horror fans enjoy this or be let down by its blow-burn pacing? Tune in as we discuss these elements and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Lees meer

For Episode 46 of The Next Best Series Podcast, I'm joined by Giovanni Lago & Daniel Howat. It feels like yesterday when we discussed our final winner predictions for the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, handed out on January 15th. Now, we are back again so soon to discuss who we think will win at the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which h are scheduled to take place on September 15th. The Creative Arts Emmy Award winners have already been announced, and this conversation was recorded a few days ago before they took place, so excuse us if some of the content discussed is no longer relevant. We hope you enjoy us arguing who we think will win in the writing, directing, acting, and series categories. Will "The Bear" repeat? Are "Baby Reindeer" and "Shogun" set to dominate? Please tune in and find out. We'll return with a reaction episode to the winners after the ceremony! Until then, thank you, as always, for listening. We hope you enjoy this free full-length episode! Live From The 2024 Telluride Film Festival - Part 1
30 augustus 2024 · 30 min
We thought we'd do something different this year. Traditionally, we do one single episode discussing the Telluride Film Festival lineup as we drive over, and then there are some conversations regarding Venice and TIFF before we have our final Telluride recap conversation on the drive to the airport. This year, we're breaking things up into pieces for you all to digest as the Labor weekend goes on. For now, please take a listen to Will Mavity, J Don Birnam, and me as we discuss the official lineup for the 2024 Telluride Film Festival from our hotel room. We will be back to discuss the films we saw early next week. Thank you, and enjoy! Lees meer
