This week we're reviewing the latest film from Elizabeth Banks titled "Cocaine Bear" starring Keri Russell, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery, Alden Ehrenreich, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale & Ray Liotta. A crazy, gnarly, and completely ridiculous premise that shouldn't be taken too seriously. What did we ultimately think of it? Tune in below as we discuss the humor, kills, performances, and more. For our latest throwback review, we're reviewing And Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" starring Chow Yun-fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi, Chang Chen, Lang Sihung & Cheng Pei-pei. A worldwide phenomenon upon its release in 2000, the film broke box-office records for a foreign language film in the U.S. It earned the most Academy Award nominations ever for a foreign language film at the time. Recently re-released in theaters in 4K and with so much appreciation being shown towards Michelle Yeoh for "Everything Everywhere All At Once," Dan Bayer, Brendan Hodges, Danilo Castro, Isaiah Washington, and I decided it was time to revisit this complex, beautiful and thrilling film. Tune in as we discuss the story, performances, action, craftsmanship, and its awards season run in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for all your support, and enjoy!

Interview With "The Sea Beast" Director Chris Williams & Producer Jed Schlanger
15 februari 2023 · 34 min
"The Sea Beast" dropped on Netflix over the summer to positive reviews but very little recognition from awards voting bodies until we got to the Annie Awards. Afterward, it was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at this year's Academy Awards. The film marks the Netflix debuts for the former Disney director Chris Williams ("Bolt," "Big Hero 6" and "Moana") and producer Jed Schlanger ("The Boss Baby" & "How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"). The two of them spent some time talking with us about their work on the film, which you can listen to down below. Enjoy, and be sure to consider the film when casting your ballots this awards season. Interview With "A House Made Of Splinters" Director, Simon Lereng Wilmont
14 februari 2023 · 19 min
"A House Made Of Splinters" had its world premiere at last year's Sundance Film Festival, where it mostly went under the radar for many despite receiving positive reviews. There were questions about its awards eligibility this year, given it did not have a U.S. distributor for the longest time. Still, it went on to receive nominations from various documentary awards voting bodies and even earned a Spirit Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature. Now, the film has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature at this year's Academy Awards, and many are starting to take notice of this delicate, harrowing, and essential piece of work which focuses on orphaned children in a war-torn Ukraine. Director Simon Lereng Wilmont was kind enough to spend a few minutes talking with us about his work on the film, which you can listen to down below. Interview With "New Moon" Directors and Writers, Colman & Raul Domingo
17 januari 2023 · 20 min
Known for his Emmy-winning work on "Euphoria," and films like "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" and "Zola," Colman Domingo took on a new role with the animated short film "New Moon." Adapting a segment from his one-man show "A Boy and His Soul," Colman and his husband Raul set out to bring the words of Colman's mother to life. "I'm very much a mama's boy," Colman says. "For me, this is a testament to my mother's imagination." In "New Moon," Colman narrates the story of J.J., a young boy who is hearing about a special ritual from his mother. "I remember that moment so very well, of her teaching me about the New Moon and this ritual that I've had for years. The moment you see the New Moon, you just hold your hand wide open, hold your purse open, and whatever you're seeking, it will come to you." It's a joyous expression of love and positivity between a mother and son, all brought to life with surreal animation by French directors Jérémie Balais and Jeff Le Bars. If "New Moon" manages to score a nomination for Best Animated Short, the pair would be the first LGBT couple nominated in the same year. Raul describes what it was like to work together: "We see the best in each other. And I think we always encourage the best in each other. Because out there you can just step out, and you'll be just ripped to shreds for whatever and however and whomever." Raul and Colman co-wrote the screenplay for the film, while Colman played all of the parts, and Raul directed him for the rotoscope. "I trust his critical eye," Colman says of Raul. "And so we already trust each other somewhat creatively. He holds me accountable." In a recent conversation with Daniel Howat from Next Best Picture, Colman and Raul Domingo shared the heart behind their animated short film, memories of Colman's mother, and what they hope the legacy of this work will be. Following the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards, Dan Bayer, Cody Dericks, Daniel Howat, Giovanni Lago, Isaiah Washington and I hopped on the podcast to deliver our immediate reactions to the winners (on the film side). How did the wins and speeches help shape the Oscar race? What did we think of Jerrod Carmichael's hosting? How did it feel to have the Globes back after controversy kept them off the air last year? We discuss all of these points and more in our special exclusive Patreon episode.

"RRR" has become a global phenomenon, setting box office records and crossing over to the United States in a major way by capturing the imagination of audiences and winning awards in the process. Recent New York Film Critics Circle winner and Critics Choice Award nominee for Best Director, S.S. Rajamouli, was kind enough to spend some time talking with Dan Bayer about his work on the film. Afterward, I had the chance to speak with the film's star Ram Charan about his character Alluri Sitarama Raju, working with Rajamouli, and whether he and co-star N. T. Rama Rao Jr. will perform at the Oscars if "Naatu Naatu" is nominated for Best Original Song. Please take a listen and enjoy! Thank you! Lees meer

10 januari 2023 · 1 uur 36 min
"RRR" is one of the last year's true success stories. An Indian blockbuster that crossed over to the states, it is still holding sold-out screenings and receiving rapturous responses from those who experience it. S.S. Rajamouli's historical action epic also features some of the best crafts of 2022 with over-the-top stunt work, chaotic sound, energizing music, and dazzling visual effects. Many of the film's below-the-line talent were kind enough to spend time talking with us about their work on the film. In this series of interviews conducted by Will Mavity and Dan Bayer, we spoke with Film Editor A. Sreekar Prasad, Composer and Songwriter M.M. Keeravaani, Cinematographer K.K. Senthil Kumar, Sound Re-Recording Mixers Boloy Kumar Doloi and Rahul Karpe and Visual Effects Supervisors Vlad Skrypnyk & Peter Dimitrov. We hope you enjoy this special behind-the-scenes look at one of the year's most entertaining films. Thank you! Lees meer

"M3GAN"
7 januari 2023 · 49 min
For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham, Dan Bayer & Cody Dericks. This week we're reviewing Gerard Johnstone's "M3GAN," starring Allison Williams, Jenna Davis & Violet McGraw. 2023 is off to a fun start. Expectations were low for this one, but by leaning into the film's ridiculous premise with a degree of self-awareness, a new horror icon has been born, which will supply us with endless memes and Halloween costumes for years to come. What did we ultimately think of the story, the horror, the campiness, and the performances? We discuss all of these points and more as we attempt to give M3GAN the review she deserves. Thank you, and enjoy! Lees meer

Interview With "The Pale Blue Eye" Director/Writer, Scott Cooper
6 januari 2023 · 12 min
"The Pale Blue Eye," tells an origin story of sorts for one of the world's most renowned authors, Edgar Allen Poe. Played by Harry Melling, the young military cadet in 1830 West Point, New York, is called upon to help a veteran detective (Christian Bale) solve a series of grizzly and inexplicable murders. Director/Writer Scott Cooper may love continuing to work with Christian Bale, but he has no interest in repeating himself as he tells a gothic thriller with a few surprising twists and turns. The film is now available to stream on Netflix, and Cooper was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work on the film, which you can listen to down below. Thank you, and enjoy! 4 januari 2023 · 43 min
"She Said" tells one of the most powerful and influential stories of our time. Maria was able to spend some time talking with Ema Sasic about her work on the film. Additionally, recently Oscar-shortlisted composer Nicholas Britell also sat down with Will Mavity to talk about his score for the film. "White Noise"
3 januari 2023 · 1 uur 19 min
For this week's second podcast review, I am joined by Dan Bayer & Brendan Hodges. Today we're reviewing the latest film from Academy Award-nominee Noah Baumbach ("Marriage Story") as he adapts someone else's material for the first time, Don DeLillo's "White Noise." Starring Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Don Cheadle, Raffey Cassidy, Jodie Turner-Smith, André L. Benjamin & Lars Eidinger, the film is a satire of America in the 1980s with a stylistic flourish from Noah Baumbach unlike any we've ever seen from him before. The film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it received mixed to positive reviews for its performances, music, tone, and complex adaptation by Baumbach. The film is now streaming on Netflix and is garnering an even more mixed response but what did are think of it, though? Please tune in for our review as we discuss these aspects, including its Oscar prospects and more. Thank you so much for listening. We hope you enjoy it. Lees meer
