HBO's hotly anticipated "House Of The Dragon" had to follow the disastrous final season of "Game Of Thrones" by telling a prequel set hundreds of years before the events of that show based on George R.R. Martin's book "Fire And Blood" about the Targaryen dynasty. The show tells the story known as "The Dance Of Dragons," a Targaryen civil war that divided the realm and nearly brought the once almighty house to extinction. The show has received critical acclaim and has proved to be a ratings success for HBO. But, most importantly, it's won A Song Of Ice And Fire fans back to the world of Westeros as the first season just concluded, and audiences are eager to see the show return for its second season in (hopefully) spring 2024. What did we think of the first season, though? Tune in as Josh Parham, Zoe Rose Bryant, and returning guest Brendan Hodges joins me to discuss the characters, writing, visual effects, music, and more from a show we have a lot of criticism for but also a tremendous amount of love. We also cover what we hope to see in Season 2 and what we feel the show's Emmy potential might be given how massively successful "Game Of Thrones" was with the Television Academy. Please take a listen as we share our full, spoiler-filled thoughts on the first season.

"Decision To Leave" is one of the year's most buzzed-about films ever since its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. He won the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and the film has now been selected as South Korea's official submission for this year's Best International Feature Film Oscar race. Park Chan-wook and his leading man Park Hae-il were kind enough to chat with me about the film as they both discussed working with the film's leading actress Tang-Wei, and what it was like shooting the climatic scene on the beach during high tide, and more. "Triangle Of Sadness" is one of the year's most entertaining films. After winning the Palme d'Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, audiences are finally getting the chance to experience Ruben Östlund's scathingly vicious takedown of the rich and powerful in his first English-language film. One of the many reasons why the film works as well as it does is because of the character Abigail, played by Filipina actress Dolly De Leon. 39. Interview With "Speak No Evil" Director/Writer, Christian Tafdrup

    14 september 2022 · 19 min

    Afspelen
"Speak No Evil" had its world premiere, digitally, at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, where it shocked and terrified audiences with its dark humor, which grows more sinister and more threatening until the cringe comedy is completely erased, and all that is left is stomach-churning horror. One of the stand-out films from the festival, it's been playing in limited release in New York and Los Angeles but will now be available to stream on Shudder starting September 16th. Director and writer Christian Tafdrup was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about the film (both without spoilers and with indicated spoilers for those who do not wish to know where this twisted film goes). We hope you will check out the film (if you can handle it) and take a listen down below. Enjoy, and thank you! Lees meer

For Episode 310, I am joined by Tom O'Brien, Dan Bayer, and guest Jorge Don Birnham. This is an interesting podcast because this is a series of conversations conducted over the Labor Day weekend while I was at the Telluride Film Festival with Jorge. He and I bookend the podcast with our drives to and coming from Telluride. In between, I talk with Tom on two separate occasions about his experience at the Venice Film Festival and chat one last time with Dan about what we're looking forward to seeing at the Toronto International Film Festival this week. Apologies for the audio quality, as I did not have my microphone for any of these conversations, but I hope you enjoy them either way. Thank you! Lees meer

44. "Three Thousand Years Of Longing"

    27 augustus 2022 · 1 uur

    Afspelen
For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Amy Smith, Josh Parham & Daniel Howat. Together, we're reviewing the latest film from director George Miller, "Three Thousand Years Of Longing," starring Tilda Swinton & Idris Elba. The film premiered out of competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival and is following up the biggest success of his career with the critically acclaimed and Oscar-winning "Mad Max: Fury Road." It's the kind of film a filmmaker as visionary as Miller could only make after the success of his previous film because it's one hell of a big swing, filled with fantastical imagery and lots of flashbacks in a sprawling love story commenting on the nature of storytelling. What did we think of the story, performances, and technical aspects? Tune in below to find out. Thank you, and enjoy! Lees meer

45. Interview With "Breaking" Director & Writer, Abi Damaris Corbin

    26 augustus 2022 · 15 min

    Afspelen
"Breaking" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, where it received strong notices for the performances by the cast, John Bodega, Nicole Beharie, and the late Michael K. Williams. Director Abi Damaris Corbin and her co-writer, Kwame Kwei-Armah, sought to tell the tragic true story of former veteran Brian Brown-Easley and looked at many other tension-filled, single-location thrillers to capture the anxiety and drama of such a high-stake situation. Abi was kind enough to spend some time talking about what drew her to the story, working with the cast, her inspirations, and what she took away from the experience of making her first feature-length film. We hope you take a listen down below and check out the film, now playing in theaters from Bleecker Street. Thank you, and enjoy! Lees meer
