Interview With The "Pinocchio" Makeup Team
25 februari 2021 · 38 min
"Pinocchio" was one of the ten films to be shortlisted at this year's Academy Awards for Best Makeup & Hairstyling. With a staggered release that has spanned back to 2019, it's not surprising if many haven't heard or seen this film yet. However, the work by Prosthetic Makeup Designer, Mark Coulier, and Makeup Artist, Dalia Colli, is truly a powerhouse and should not be underestimated when looking at this year's crop of contenders. Imaginative and varied in its application and use, the makeup and hairstyling of "Pinocchio" is a detailed sight to behold. The makeup team was kind enough to talk to us about their work on the film. Interview With The "Nomadland" Sound Team
19 februari 2021 · 29 min
"Nomadland" is easily the most critically acclaimed film of the year. Winning the coveted Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, the Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, the most critics prizes for Best Picture, Director, Actress, Cinematography, Editing & Adapted Screenplay, there is barely any aspect of this film that has not been praised. One area you wouldn't necessarily expect to be just as meticulously crafted though is the sound of the film. We were lucky enough to speak with Supervising Sound Editor/Sound Designer/Additional Re-Recording Mixer, Sergio Diaz, Supervising Sound Editor/Re-Recording Mixer, Zach Seivers, and Production Sound Mixer, M. Wolf Snyder about their nuanced work on the film. Take a listen down below and enjoy this deep dive into the sound of "Nomadland," now currently streaming on Hulu. Lees meer

Interview With "Greyhound" VFX Supervisors, Nathan McGuiness & Pete Bebb
8 februari 2021 · 44 min
"Greyhound" may have come out earlier this year but it has been able to stand out amongst a crowded Oscar season for having some of the bigger production values seen in any movie this year. Its visual effects work is the kind of large blockbuster filmmaking that audiences are sorely missing in their lives right now and with tomorrow's visual effects shortlist to be announced by the Academy, we have a feeling the work from Apple's WWII submarine movie starring Tom Hanks, will make the cut. VFX supervisors Nathan McGuiness and Pete Bebb were kind enough to spend some time talking about their experience of making the film. Take a listen down below and enjoy! Lees meer

As we begin a new year, there may not be any sign of an actual date for the Tony Awards or a timeframe for the return of live theater, but with a new administration and the continued rollout of the vaccine, it feels like a new world anyway. With that in mind, the Next Best Theater team decided to take a look at the under-utilized form of musical storytelling, the song cycle, in the form of Jason Robert Brown's "Songs For A New World." Join Nicole Ackman, Casey Lee Clark, Cody Dericks, and myself as we journey through the sixteen "moments" of the first produced work of one of the great contemporary musical theater composer-lyricists.

A Behind The Scenes Look At "Mank"
26 januari 2021 · 1 uur 9 min
"Mank" is one of 2020's most technically dazzling films. David Fincher's perfectionism transported us back to the Golden Age of Hollywood to tell us the story of Academy Award winning screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz (played by Gary Oldman) and the film has been hailed as one of the year's best, most recently being rewarded as one of the Top 10 films of the year by the American Film Institute (AFI). Many members from the film's production were kind enough to give us a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the film including Academy Award-nominated sound designer Ren Klyce, Costume Designer Trish Summerville & Co-Producer/VFX Producer, Peter Mavromates. Take a listen down below and enjoy! Lees meer

Interview With "Da 5 Bloods" Star, Delroy Lindo
22 januari 2021 · 17 min
Spike Lee's "Da 5 Bloods" was released earlier this summer on Netflix to acclaim from critics and then shortly afterward, it only grew in public consciousness due to the lasting power of the film's story, the summer's Black Lives Matter movement and the tragic death of one of the film's stars, Chadwick Boseman. Delroy Lindo, the film's lead, has had a career that has lasted for nearly fifty years and he received the highest reviews of his career for his tormented portrayal of the Donald Trump supporting, PTSD suffering, Vietnam war veteran, Paul. Delroy was kind enough to take a few moments to talk about the recognition he has received so far for the film, his experience reuniting with director Spike Lee, working with Chadwick Boseman in a scene that has taken on new meaning since the actor's untimely death and more! Take a listen down below and enjoy! Lees meer

Interviews With "The Trial Of The Chicago 7" Director/Writer, Aaron Sorkin & Actor, Frank Langella
21 januari 2021 · 37 min
"The Trial Of The Chicago 7" is one of the best films of 2020 and one of its most timely as well. Writer/Director Aaron Sorkin ("Molly's Game" & "The Social Network") could have never predicted just how timely the movie would be when it premiered on Netflix this past September. Not only was he kind enough to spend some time talking to me about the making of his second directorial achievement but one of the stars from the acclaimed ensemble cast, Academy Award -nominated actor, Frank Langella ("Frost/Nixon"), spoke with Dan Bayer about his involvement in the picture as well. Interviews With "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" Director, Cinematographer & Makeup & Hairstyling Team
20 januari 2021 · 1 uur 10 min
"Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" is one of the year's very best films. A lot of that has to do with the source material by August Wilson and the performances from Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman. But a lot of what makes the film work are the crafts behind-the-scenes. Director George C. Wolfe was kind enough to spend some time speaking with Daniel Howat about what it took to bring the play to life on the screen. Also, Will Mavity got a chance to interview cinematographer Tobias Schliessler and the Makeup Department head, Matiki Anoff, the Hair Department head, Mia Neal and the personal makeup artist for Viola Davis, Sergio Lopez-Rivera. We hope you enjoy this inside look at "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom." Lees meer

We also talk about the resilience of the theatre community, the Ratatouille Tik Tok musical, and some organizations that could use your help. Take a listen to hear from myself, Michael Schwartz, Dan Bayer,Casey Lee Clark & Lauren LaMagna.
