As previously announced, we are diving back into the year 2016 with a few missing podcast reviews which we did not complete the year the site launched. This will culminate in NBP Film Community Awards and awards voted on by the staff towards the end of October. Next up is our review of the Coen Brothers' look back on 1950s Hollywood with "Hail, Caesar!" starring Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton & Channing Tatum. A screwball comedy with religious symbolism and many memorable scenes, how does it all come together for the Next Best Picture team? Joining me to discuss I have Nicole Ackman, Michael Schwartz, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, Ryan C. Showers & Patreon guest Paul Meredith. Take a listen below and let us know what you think. Also check out our previous 2016 reviews of "20th Century Women," "Paterson" & "Captain Fantastic." Thanks!

Next Best Adaptation is back where we review the source material of the year's potential Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar contenders. Last time we were here we looked at "Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier and "Death On The Nile" by Agatha Christie. Now, we are looking at "Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir Of A Family And Culture In Crisis" by J.D. Vance. We recorded this podcast over the summer but the trailer for the film adaptation by Ron Howard and starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close was unveiled by Netflix today and we figured now was the right time to release this podcast. Joining me for this podcast discussion into the themes, characters and more controversial political viewpoints of this memoir, I have Michael Schwartz & Cody Dericks.

"Boys State" premiered earlier this year the Sundance Film Festival where it won U.S. Documentary Competition Grand Jury Prize. An A24 production, it got picked up by Apple and is now streaming exclusively on Apple TV+. The documentary follows a thousand teenage boys attending the Boys/Girls State program in Texas. Their goal is to put their political differences aside and come together to build a representative government from the ground up over the course of a week. The documentary's directors, Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, were kind enough to sit down and chat with us about how they came to the project, working on it and film's reception so far. Please check out the full review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture The 2014 retrospective is coming to an end. We have now come to Richard Linklater's 12-year- long opus "Boyhood" starring Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette, and Ethan Hawke. Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014 to universal critical acclaim, the gigantic independent film (shot over the course of 12 years) could not maintain its momentum until Oscar night where it lost Best Picture and Best Director, only winning one award for Patricia Arquette in the Best Supporting Actress category. Remembered for being a bridesmaid, how does the film hold up today? Was the praise warranted? I am joined by Dan Bayer and Patreon guests Isaiah Washington & Mike Pisa-Kino to discuss. 47. Next Best Adaptation - "Death On The Nile" By Agatha Christie

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture Next Best Adaptation is back where we review the source material of the year's potential Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar contenders. Last time, we looked at "Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier, and this time we are taking a look at Agatha Christie's mystery novel "Death On The Nile" which will be released on October 21st by Netflix. Directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh as the returning Hercule Poirot, it serves as a sequel to his 2017 film "Murder On The Orient Express." It will surely not only be compared to the source material but to the 1978 film of the same name. We mostly focus on the book here but also touch on the 1978 adaptation and what we hope for with Branagh's latest. Joining me for this podcast I have Will Mavity and Dan Bayer.
