For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, and guests Sarah Williams & Kaiya Shunyata. For this week, we're taking a break from new releases and reviewing a movie that slipped through the cracks in our podcast schedule last year. A movie with a passionate fanbase. We are of course talking about Céline Sciamma's breathtaking "Portrait Of A Lady On Fire" starring Noémie Merlant & Adèle Haenel. This podcast is long overdue and there is plenty to talk about, so don't waste any time, click below and listen to our thoughts on one of 2019's best. Interview With "Aviva" Director/Writer, Boaz Yakin
15 juni 2020 · 24 min
Boaz Yakin has been a director of solid studio and indie fare since his crossover hit "A Price Above Rubies", starring Renee Zelweger in 1998. With such mainstream successes as "Remember The Titans" and "Max" to his credit, it was a bit of a surprise reading the synopsis of his latest feature "Aviva", which was announced as part of the lineup for this year's SXSW. It was said to track "the evolution of a relationship driven by dance sequences... and a pair of principal characters played by four different actors." Available now on VOD, "Aviva" feels like something completely new and exciting, an experimental film that is nonetheless completely accessible. We got to talk with Boaz about the making of this fascinating film, including the collaboration with choreographer/co-star Bobbi Jene Smith, how he came up with the concept of externalizing each character's masculine and feminine sides, and shooting guerilla-style on the streets of France. The 2014 retrospective continues this week with one of the year's more challenging films, Paul Thomas Anderson's adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's "Inherent Vice." "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes"
9 mei 2020 · 54 min
For this week's main podcast review, I am once again joined by Josh Parham & Dan Bayer and together we are completing the "Planet Of The Apes" reboot trilogy with this 2014 installment (which also fits nicely into our 2014 retrospective) "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes." Once again starring Andy Serkis, Toby Kebbell (who receives a much more substantial role as the film's memorable antagonist) and being joined this time by a human cast comprising of Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and Gary Oldman, this is a sequel which truly expands on the first film in all of the best ways. Listen to our review and hear our thoughts on how we think this film has held up over the years and how it fits in with the rest of the trilogy. Lees meer

As quarantine continues, so too does our 2014 retrospective. This week we're taking a look at one of the major contenders for Best Picture that year: Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel." With an impeccable cast led by the sensational Ralph Fiennes and with some all-time great technicals, this film holds a special place in the hearts of film lovers. Recently re-released as a part of the Criterion Collection and winner of 4 Academy Awards, how does the film hold up on a re-watch? Here to discuss it with me is Nicole Ackman, Josh Parham & Dan Bayer. Also be sure to check out our other 2014 reviews of "Selma," "Ida" & "Foxcatcher."

For Episode 192, I am joined by Michael Schwartz, Casey Lee Clark, Josh Parham & Dan Bayer. This episode is a big one as we discuss the future of the theatrical experience in the wake of Universal Studio's comments vs. AMC Theaters' reaction to no longer show their films anymore. "Bad Education"
2 mei 2020 · 35 min
For this week's main podcast review, I am once again joined by Josh Parham & Dan Bayer but this time we are talking about a television movie! "Bad Education" premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and was acquired by HBO where it will now be competing for the Emmys instead of the Oscars as a television movie. Directed by Cory Finley ("Thoroughbreds") and starring Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney in excellent roles, the film depicts the true life story of the Long Island public school embezzlement scandal from 2002. Tune in to hear our thoughts, how we think the film will do at the Emmys and more! Lees meer

"Foxcatcher"

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture Lees meer
Last year, we did a podcast retrospective series on the year 2015 (the year before NBP launched) which was met with an ecstatic response from all of you. We decided to continue that this year with a retrospective of 2014. We have already reviewed Best Picture nominee "Selma" & Best Foreign Language winner "Ida" and now we are taking a look at what was supposedly the number 9 film for Best Picture that year but did not ultimately receive the coveted nomination, "Foxcatcher." Starring Channing Tatum, Steve Carell & Mark Ruffalo in three transformative and extraordinary performances, we examine the themes of the tragic true story, the work by all three leads, Bennett Miller's direction, the film's awards season run and more! Joining me for this podcast review is Josh Parham, Amanda Spears, Dan Bayer & Danilo Castro.
