SurahFatiha Points to Ponder
11 februari 2013 · 43 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into a brief discussion on the reflections of Surah al Fatihah in the context of the most fundamental aspects of our Deen or a summary of the entire Islam. Lees meer
He begins by the first three Ayats of the Surah. In them, he first analyses the difference between thanking Allah and praising Allah. The meanings of the word - Hamd are also elaborated upon.
Another wonderful thing about the beginning of Surah Al Fatiha is that the hadith tells us that Allah has 99 names and in Surah al Fatiha we specifically use Allah and there is profound benefit in that the benefit is that if we thank and praise Allah only for being Khaliq then the only thing you are appreciating is that he created, if you thank/praise Him only for being Wise then the only thing you are appreciating is that He is Wise as is the case of the other phrase too. Alhamdulillah covers all. We are also acquainted with the concepts of how we want to be Allah’s slave, and how despite Him being our Master, He is Ar Rahman- the Bestower of Mercy.
The Ustadh also discusses:
The understanding of the verse Sirat Al-Ladhina 'An`amta `Alayhim.
The paths that lead to Allah.
The concept of Hidaya (Guidance).
The reasoning behind a Muslim asking for Hidaya while he has already been guided to the truth.
The different levels of HidayaThe absolute magnificence of the fact that Allah SWT Himself is responding to us when we recite Surat al-Fatihah in our Salah and the need for us to be in full realization and awareness of it the next time we perform Salah.

Witnesses To Humanity

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into a deep discussion on what it actually means to be responsible for being witness to Humanity. Lees meer
In the Qur'an, Surah Al Baqarah, Verses 142 - 143,
“The foolish among the people will say, "What has turned them away from their qiblah, which they used to face?" Say, "To Allah belongs the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight path."And thus we have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allah has guided. And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.”
The Prophet ﷺ had moved to Madinah and now there was a direct interaction with the Christian and Jewish community and in particular the Jewish community. One of the fundamental reason that the Jewish community of Arabia decided to reject Muhammad ﷺ by large is that he did not belong to their family, he was not from the children of Ishaq (AS) but from the children of Ismail (AS) so he was not from the “chosen group”. When Allah Azzawajjal revealed the Quran and he revealed instructions, a lot of instructions were the same which Allah gave to Musa (AS).Allah SWT exposes in Surah Al Baqarah that there was a knowledgeable group among the Jewish community of Madinah that looked to this Messenger ﷺ and found that every single description that they were given about him in their books, so they came to the conclusion that in fact, this is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And at the same time they came to a very strange conclusion also that “no matter what we will not follow him, we will not accept him as a Messenger of Allah”. They actually start blaming Jibreel (AS) saying that he must have gone to the wrong address. so, Allah defends Jibreel (…

The Legacy Of Prophet Ibrahim - The Hajj
11 februari 2013 · 30 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the topic of Hajj in which millions of men and women of all ethnicities converge in Makkah to commemorate the annual rites of Hajj. Hajj is the fifth and last pillar of Islam. It is the pilgrimage whereby these men and women tread in the spiritual path of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in following the way of Prophet Ibrahim AS. Lees meer
Hajj is symbolic of the close ties of Muslims to the beliefs and practices of Ibrahim AS. The rites of Hajj are essentially a re-enactment of significant events in the life of Ibrahim AS and his family as well as a celebration of his legacy. These rites and legacy provide important lessons not just to the pilgrims but to the entire Muslim Ummah.
Ibrahim AS was a man who submitted to and glorified Allah SWT and not himself. He was so sincere in his submission and obeyed Allah SWT in such a way that his trust in Allah SWT was Absolute and Virtuous.
This blessing of Hajj in joining with others is one of the most significant lessons of Hajj and is in accordance with the legacy of Ibrahim AS. The plethora of men and women dressed in simple clothing who converge on Mount Arafat in the culmination of Hajj collectively seeking the forgiveness and mercy of Allah SWT reasserts the fact that despite our differences, we are all equal before Allah SWT. What distinguishes us from each other before Allah SWT is neither race, wealth nor social status. Instead, it is that which gave Ibrahim AS the esteemed title of being “Khaleelullah” — uprightness.

The Qurans Remedy For Sadness
11 februari 2013 · 2 uur 7 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan discusses how the Qur'an is the most appropriate remedy for the sadness due to the trials and tribulations we face on a daily basis. Lees meer
The Qur'an addresses every single dilemma that we may encounter in our lives. We all go through various physical, moral, spiritual, and psychological crises and Allah (SWT) has revealed this Book to us and given us the example of the beautiful Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ to actually help us navigate these crises because He is the One who created us with these emotions.
Sadness is one of those emotions and the reality of life. Having good Iman, having strong faith, does not mean one is guaranteed happiness. This is a world of difficulty, challenges, and of trial. For instance, Ibrahim (AS) as a young man experienced the trial of being expelled from his own house. Then there is the example of Yusuf (AS) who is betrayed by his older brothers.
The prophetic situations of sadness and grief all turn into Dua’s. Musa (AS), for example, punched a man who then died and he was overwhelmed with guilt. But Allah inspired him with a beautiful Du’a:
“O my Sustainer! Verily, I am in dire need any good which You may bestow upon me!”
(Qur’an 28:24)
The Remedy in The Names of Allah should also be sought to overcome sadness. One of Allah’s most beautiful names is Ar-Rahman, which is usually translated as “mercy.” So Ar-Rahman is the first remedy in the Qur’an. Remembering and reflecting on the Names of Allah, and of them, Ar-Rahman, the One we invoke all the time, is a special remedy for sadness. The remedy in cultivating gratitude promises us increase in every good aspect of our lives as promised by Allah in the Qur'an. Some He will increase in children, some in patience, some in strength, in knowledge, in wisdom, in material provisions, in happiness — in whatever each one needs to have increased. Muslims must exhibit happiness and optimism and allow for themselves to be healed by the remedies for the sadness that Allah (SWT) o…

When Muslims Work Together 5 Najwa What Destroys Islamic Work
11 februari 2013 · 24 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan conducts a session about something which destroys Islamic work and that is Najwa. Najwa is mentioned a couple of times in the passage from Surah Al Mujadila. The Ustadh discusses the essence of Najwa. Najwa means secret discussions with malicious intentions. How does Najwa develop? Lees meer
As a consequence of holding meetings post a lecture or similar things, we find that a subgroup forms within the main group and they discuss the lectures held earlier and they are very defensive about that. What this does is that it disperses the unity and frankness of the gathering and of the decision-making and it cuts away at shura (mutual consultation) because in shura everybody has equal access to give an opinion and everybody shares their opinion on the same platform. This leads to forming blocs on the outside. This forming of a bloc on the outside is Najwa. So a private meeting for malicious or evil purposes is what Najwa is.
Surah Al-Fath talks about Najwa that is catastrophic and how it can destroy Islamic work. It can destroy the Islamic school, the masjid, or any organization. Because a few people discuss things which they should not discuss and hence, they are breaking a trust because such meetings and what is discussed in them are a form of trust. So Najwa violates that trust.

When Muslims Work Together 4 Shura Giving Opinion Voicing Concern
11 februari 2013 · 22 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan conducts a session about voicing one’s concern or opinion in an organization. What are the guidelines that we have to follow when we give our opinion? What are the ethics of giving our opinions? Lees meer
In Surah Al Maida,
‘Those who have iman if anyone goes back on their religion Allah will replace them and Allah will bring another nation He will love them and they will love him. They will be extremely humble to the believers and severe against the disbelievers.’
So before we give our opinion we must know what it means to be humble in our interaction with other believers. The other thing is about voicing your opinion is not just about something that is wrong but it can be a suggestion for improvement or betterment. It could also be a strategic suggestion. One should never be afraid of giving suggestions. Giving a sincere suggestion for the sake of Allah is an act of worship. Giving a suggestion is just like giving Sadaqa or charity. If we expect that our opinion should be taken, that is that they must act upon it and if they don’t one offended, in that case the person did not give that opinion for the sake of Allah. He gave it for the sake of getting it followed which is not right.

When Muslims Work Together 3 - Volunteer Discipline
11 februari 2013 · 22 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares with us two passages which at first seem to contradict each other from Surah An-Nur, verse 62 and from Surah At Taubah, Ayats 44 to 45 and it seems as if they are saying the exact opposite of each other. Lees meer
In Surah An-Nur,
‘Those who are asking you permission are in fact the ones who believe in Allah and his messenger.’
In Surah At Taubah,
‘Those who believe in Allah and the last day, don’t ask your permission,’
and it goes further,
‘those who are asking your permission they don’t believe in Allah and the last day.’
Surah Nur says, ‘Those who ask your permission those are the ones who have imaan.’ Surah Taubah says, ‘Those who ask you permission are the ones who have no imaan!’ Then there is another contradiction, ‘If they ask you (to be excused) for whatever issue they have, don’t give them permission!’Surah Nur says, ‘If they ask for permission, it’s a sign of imaan and if they are asking (to be excused) for an important matter, give them permission.’
Surah Taubah says, ‘May Allah forgive you, why did you give them permission?’ Surah An Nur says, ‘Give them permission.’ Surah At Taubah says, ‘Why did you do it?’ Surah An Nur says, ‘If they ask permission that’s Imaan.’ Surah At Taubah says, ‘They have no imaan.’
These Ayats are being discussed because they represent some of the most beautiful examples of Quranic wisdom on the issue of seeking permission from Muslim leadership.
Thus, in Surah An-Nur we understand the standard protocol of discipline. If one has an issue, he should ask permission and the Leadership should go out of their way to try to give permission in most cases. We must respect them and honor their request. Did the hypocrites ever ask permission? The only reason they came to ask for permission was that it was mandatory. So voluntarily they never came to ask for permission. The people who came to ask for permission voluntarily depicts a sign of Iman. That’s the difference between Surah An Nur and Surah At Taubah.

When Muslims Work Together 2 The Balanced Big Picture
11 februari 2013 · 40 min
In this lecture, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into an explicit explanation of the verses of Surah Al-Hajj. Lees meer
In the first part of the verses discussed, Allah is displeased with humanity. The pagans are calling upon false gods. They don’t even understand the simplicity of tawheed. They don’t appreciate Allah as he deserves to be appreciated. Humanity is in serious trouble.
Allah says in the Qur'an - “No doubt it those that you are calling upon other than Allah (meaning false Gods). They won’t be able to create a single fly even if they all got together for that purpose.”
So the example Allah gives is the powerlessness of idols and the powerlessness of false kings who claim themselves to be gods. Allah says whether they are idols or humans false gods because of their kingdom or power (or whatever the case maybe), ‘they cannot create a single fly.’
Why mention the example of a fly? These verses were revealed in Makkah. The Mushrikoon used to worship idols. In pagan cultures, people sacrificed animals or left sweets, milk, honey, and flowers, etc. In front of these idols as a show of devotion. A fly eats from these things and the statues can’t do anything. So even though the foundation of their faith is that this idol is sacred and it has to be shown respect, it gets disrespected in the highest temple by a lowly thing such as a fly! And they can’t do anything about it. Allah teaches us that He can teach the lessons of His oneness and His power even through a fly. That’s one of the miracles of the Qur'an - it changes human perspectives.
Allah says - If you care about each other, you would be worried about the ultimate destiny of your fellow human beings. By default, humans care about each other and are full of compassion. But this feeling has been eroded or even taken out of our system gradually and slowly in our time. We have become desensitized.
Who is responsible for this task of telling humanity that they are going to stand before Allah one day and answer for t…

When Muslims Work Together 1 Introduction What Motivates Us
11 februari 2013 · 54 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan provides an in-depth discussion of the importance of the need for Muslims to stand on a united front and confront the inner struggles n the quest for the progression of Islam. Lees meer
From an Islamic point of view, there are numerous struggles at the level of the individual such as to fight his nafs, to fight shaytan, to fight his laziness and anger, to become better in his Ibadah. We need to understand that any of these efforts that we make for others are at the end of the day more than anyone else is benefiting first and foremost ourselves. They benefit us. They don’t necessarily benefit anyone else because we are not capable of that. The Prophet ﷺ benefited humanity more than any other human being but Allah commanded him to say, ‘La amliku ahadun naafun wala darrun,’ ‘I don’t possess the power to benefit you nor the power to harm you.’
The challenges we are facing as individuals and as an ummah are unique and particular to the times we are living in. It can even be said that as Ummah we have never in our history faced the type of challenges we are facing in the current epoch.
We need to understand is that the first generation of Muslims and a majority of the scholars throughout Islamic history never went around claiming to be the only ones with the whole truth and condemning everyone else to hell. They were too humble to make such claims. Even the companions had differences of opinion amongst themselves. But they loved and respected each other.
But today the situation is drastically different where one is always trying to outdo the other thereby, tarnishing the spirit of Islam. What have been the results of difference of opinions? It results in further divisions and in-fighting. They usually end up splitting into sub-sects themselves, leading to further divisions of an already divided entity. We have to instill respect for each other keeping our difference of opinion aside.

Blessed Guest: Quran and Ramadan
22 juli 2012 · 59 min
In this lecture, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan discusses three things about an Ayah from Surah Al Baqarah. One of them is the placement of this Ayah. The story begins with the beginning of Surah Al Baqarah and reaches a point when Ramadan is given to the Ummah - how Allah SWT builds the argument and finally reveals to us this incredible gift. He also shares certain insights about the Ayah itself and also acquaints us with a clue that Allah gave us on how to make the most advantage of Ramadan.
“The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.”
Surah Al Baqarah, Verse 185
Surah Baqarah is basically divided into two halves. The first half overwhelmingly deals with Bani Israel and the second half overwhelmingly deals with the Muslim Ummah. Quran is a guidance for people, the conversation no more about Ramadan it's about Quran. The Quran is so important in this Ayah that the subject of the month of Ramadan is stopped and the conversation began about the Quran itself - What Allah says about Quran in this Ayah. Lees meerDid the Muslims fast before Ramadan came? Yes, and Allah gave some rules. What were those rules? Listen intently to unravel the details.
Taqwa means consciousness and also ‘protection’. So, when we were given fasting, we were expected to get Taqwa. One can develop Taqwa hopefully by the act of fasting. What is the connection between one not drinking and eating and developing Taqwa? Not drinking and eating is something physical and we feel the effects of it physically. But Taqwa is something spiritual. Allah says to do something physical and then, Allah w…

Ramadan: A Gift for Muslims
12 juli 2012 · 1 uur 11 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares with us some probably already deciphered reminders that will help one prepare for Ramadan. Lees meer
The first of those things is probably the most ignored in the conversation about Ramadan. The placement of the ayat of Ramadan in the Qur’an where we realize that Ramadan is a part of the larger lesson and larger wisdom that Allah SWT revealed in His book. The second thing is to pay attention to the Ayat themselves and maybe extrapolate some lessons from the Ayah itself in which Allah talks about Ramadan. He highlights exactly how Allah Himself talks about it and maybe help oneself derive some benefits from that. He also shares the six Ayat that is the entire section of the Quran on fasting that deals with the entire wisdom of fasting and the month of fasting. Also, in these Ayats, there is a gift from Allah embedded inside. There is an opportunity. What is this gift or opportunity?
Listen intently and be mesmerized by the beautiful answers.
Allah said fasting was given so that one can get Taqwa. Ramadan is given so that one can be grateful. Dua is given so that one can get straight. Allah has made the month of Ramadan, the month of Taqwa for us, a month of gratitude for us and month of being set guided for all us.

Leniency in Leadership
11 juli 2012 · 30 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the topic of leadership and how leniency should be advocated in this matter as is evident from numerous verses of the Qur'an. In Surah Al Imran, the third Surah of the Qur’an, one particular subject has been given a lot of space in the Surah. And that subject matter is the accounts and whatever happened in the battle of Uhud. it was the second major battle in the Madani life of the Prophet ﷺ. Lees meer
There are a lot of things to learn from these accounts and that’s why Allah dedicates a lot of Ayaat to this subject and we know that every Ayah of the Qur’an offers us guidance so that we can learn from it and make our own lives better forever to come. So the Qur’an is a book of timeless instruction, timeless counsel and timeless guidance.
Allah says, “No matter how good a leader you are, Muhammad ﷺ, there’s not going to be a better leader, there will not be a better leader. But no matter how amazing a leader you are, victory and loss do not come from you.” The very next ayah says, “If Allah was to aid you, no one can overcome you…”
This implies that victory doesn’t come from the leader. Victory comes from Allah. Allah puts the right attitude in place, right when we need it and loss comes from leaders. Hence, we should inculcate the ability to implement the qualities of this leadership in our household with our wives and our children. We should aim to make ourselves good leaders as teachers, good leaders as people that are in-charge for different aspects of the community. We should imbibe the leadership practices of the Prophet ﷺ so that we can lead a better family lives, better community lives and run better Islamic organizations.

The Ustadh tells us that when we go on a search for role models next time, we should have a brief look in the mirror. Why so? This is because Allah has already put us in the position of leadership and responsibility by making us Muslims. We are the blessed Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ.
The majority of the people that walked this earth do not have this gift and since we have that gift, we are an honored Ummah and Allah gave us this honor so we could be role models to the rest of humanity. Hence, it is paramount that we recognize our place in the world and realize our future so that we can show this world the beauty of this religion in a way that it’s never, ever, ever seen before.

Importance of Youth in Our Communities
1 juli 2012 · 54 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the topic of the youth and how when we talk about youth, we talk about the problem segment of our society. Lees meer
Youth has become synonymous with the problem and it seems like they are the weakest link in our community. But Allah highlights the youth and makes us realize that they are not our weakness. young people are our strength. And they will find their strength in the Word of Allah. When a young generation goes back to the book of Allah, the world changes. The map of the world changes.
There are ‘ulama, scholars, that have spent their entire life worshiping Allah, studying Hadith, Fiqh, Usool, Aqeedah, Tafsir, etc., and have lived a life of learning and teaching. these are some of the most noble-dignified-symbols of Iman in the community, the elders. The older scholars of this Ummah are a treasure of this Ummah. Yet, the scholars of this Ummah, for fourteen centuries are learning about a bunch of young men who knew nothing, except there’s one God. These scholars wrote books, and articles, and papers, and reflections, on the lives of these not knowledgeable, not scholarly, no ijazah in any tajweed category of young men. Pause for a moment and understand the profundity of this! Knowledge is not something that is exclusive to the elders. It is the Iman in the heart of a Muslim that counts.
We paint an extreme picture that the Quran itself doesn’t paint. And our youth suffer because of this misconception. They feel that becoming serious about Islam means that we must let go of our existing life devoid of friends, a personality and much more. But the youth needs to realize that Islam is a beautiful religion that brings color and joy to our life.

One starts from Bani Israel.

Teaching Islam To Our Children
1 juli 2012 · 41 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan gives an elaborate and explicit lecture on the need of the hour - Teaching Islam to our children. Lees meer
Before worrying about our kids, we have to worry about what we are like as parents. Our children have Islam built into themselves as their religion. It’s a very fundamental aspect of our Deen. The success the Muslims have had in raising their children relatively has been great but is not that praiseworthy as yet.
First of all our mentality has to change. If the children don't see in us the right definition of success, our personality, our conversations, then we cannot expect them to have the right definition of success for their life.
When the Prophets AS were teaching Deen, they were teaching everybody Deen. But when Allah SWT talks about children learning Islam and the Qur’an, talks about children learning, children receiving advice, it’s from the parents. Whenever Allah talks about children getting guidance in the Qur’an, it’s always from parents.
May Allah SWT make us the people of the Qur’an, and instill within us the ability to instill that to our children, have an honest, direct, open conversation with your children, and seek answers from Allah’s book.

The Man OF Two Gardens
1 juli 2012 · 34 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the story of the man of two gardens which is mentioned in Surah Kahf. Through this story, Allah gives us the parable of this world with the Akhirah. The story gives us the lesson that the ultimate world is the hereafter. Lees meer
This story is about the fitnah of the pleasures of this world which caused the man with two gardens to be arrogant and undeterred by the presence of the actual Jannah in the Hereafter. The man falsely believed that all his wealth was his effort and good luck and that he was better than his friend.
The faithful said that he was honored that his Creator and his Sustainer was Allah.he also admonished his friend for being proud and haughty and glorifying the life of this world, while he glorified his belief, faith, and monotheism. The faithless man happiness was short-lived as Allah had commanded for his green gardens and his arrogance and stupidity was realized by him to the fullest on seeing a barren and annihilated land in the place of his fruitful gardens of which he was so proud once. This horrific sight made him comprehend his great mistake and he ultimately realized that the protection, guardianship, and Power belong to Allah, the Lord Who is the Truth Himself.
Allah says that his arrogance and delusion is what brought him down and the destruction of the garden is the ultimate proof of that. Because of his belief that his wealth would remain in continuity, he remained ignorant and so involved in this world that he made the mistake of even assuming that he would get even something better in the actual Jannah too since Allah has been happy with him.
But he is humbled by his friend who reminds him of the feebleness of this creation and how temporary it is. He also admonishes him for indulging in Shirk by taking credit for his garden. Rather it was Allah alone who could give the creation whatever he chose to give.
The story of the man with two gardens imbibes in us such lessons that should make us obey Allah a…

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with some of the teachings we gather from Surah Taghabun. There is a very particular purpose for the revelation of this Surah and this is important to understand when we study the Quran or try to benefit from the Quran, what context or what background is Allah giving this speech because every Surah is the speech of Allah. So it is very relevant for us to know when was the speech was given, who was the speech given to, what occasion was the speech given at and what made him say what he said. Lees meer
In this Surah, Allah basically says to the Muslim community that there is a mix of people who made a lot of sacrifices and there are people that just came into the religion. Some of them understood really well, some of them really not that well, some of them really don’t have very good intentions for being Muslim. In this Surah, Allah talks to the entire Muslim community, i.e, the strong believer, the weak believer, the mature believer, the fresh believer, and even the corrupt ones. This Surah the Surah of fruits - the benefits of faith. The first half of this Surah is the summary of our faith, the practical summary of our faith and the next half of the Surah deals with the advantages of being a believer and what good comes in our life if one is a believer.
Allah describes and summarizes one of the most common reasons people refuse to accept guidance from Allah is that because they don’t see that they are submitting to GOD they say why there is a messenger in between? They say that they don’t need a messenger in between and Allah says that is the very source of arrogance. Iblis was not asked to make Sajda to Allah, he was asked to make Sajdah to Adam AS because it was the test of arrogance. He didn’t directly show arrogance to Allah, he actually showed arrogance to Adam AS and that was his undoing.
Hence, it is essential that we keep away from pride and arrogance in our dealings in our lives and submit with utmost humility to the Divine Pow…

Never Give Up Hope
1 juli 2012 · 34 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on the actions that we adopt after a sin has been committed. Lees meer
The first thing is when we sin is that we’re disappointed with ourselves. That’s a matter of concern. It’s not something bad to be disappointed in oneself and to be sad about our sin. It’s actually a gift from Allah because it depicts the presence of a still intact conscience. We should realize that Allah knows our sins and He has forgiven people that have crimes far more than us in the past. No matter how big a sin is, there should be a parable even about smaller sins and how they were sensitive to the smaller sins. We must know that no matter how big our sin is, Allah’s Mercy is still bigger. Our sin is not more powerful than we are and our sin doesn’t have control of us. Rather it is we who are in control.
How do we overcome this sense of hopelessness when it devours us? We must pray to Allah to open up our hearts and never allow us to lose hope in Allah and make us of those who become a source of hope for others. We should pray that Allah gives us an immense amount of Barakah to our genuine expectations of Him and give all of us the best in this life and the best in the next life.

Controlling Anger
1 juli 2012 · 26 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on the issues with controlling anger and how we should strive to abstain from getting angry. Lees meer
When someone benefits from the goodness of religion, of this Deen, they get what they are supposed to get out of Salah and they want to share that goodness with others. But others have no appreciation of that. This is one of the main causes of getting angry.
What are some other occasions when we get angry? When we have expectations and Whenever we have expectations and they are not met, we get upset. People also get angry because they feel that justice is not being served. The lack of justice makes someone get angry.
All of these are legitimate kinds of anger.
But what should that anger turn into? According to our Deen, it should turn into Sabr. It’s a feeling that goes through our heart and our heart should convert that into Sabr. Now when our heart is not connected to Allah then Sabr is out. Then that anger comes out in other ways.
So we should exercise patience and there is a greater need to learn how to be patient. We need to learn how to take that anger and transform it into ancient intelligence. We must respond to ignorance with intelligence and should not turn into impulsive people. We cannot let our anger get the best of us.we must protect ourselves from that evil deed of arrogance.

Importance of Jumu'ah(Friday)
1 juli 2012 · 28 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan gives a soulful and impactful lecture that deals with the importance of and the lessons one must imbibe and inculcate from the day of Jumu'ah. Lees meer
Those people who were given knowledge of the Book of Allah but chose to stay ignorant about it are like the donkey that carries a load that it cannot benefit from.
Those who claim to be the only Friends of Allah are challenged to desire death if they are in fact truthful. There cannot be a more true measure of one’s proximity to Allah!
Those who know they have done well have no qualms and apprehensions about death.
The death we try to run from incessantly will eventually catch up with us. Hence, it is of paramount importance that we rectify and better our actions while there is still time.
It is sinful to engage in worldly activities whilst unprepared for Jumu‘ah, once the Adhan of Jumu‘ah is called.
The worship and obedience of Allah are better than futility and business, though the latter has to be done when necessary.Listen intently and be mesmerized by the lecture.

Why And How To Give Advice?
1 juli 2012 · 23 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on the benefits of Salah and how the Prophets of Allah AS lay prominent stress on this most fundamental aspect while preaching the Deen to the Ummah. Lees meer
One of the benefits of Salat is that we connect directly to Allah and hence, is supposed to bring light into our life. Every Salah is supposed to be a source of light in our life. Every salah is supposed to be us getting refueled, rejuvenated. When a person really established salah, when they really, truly establish salat in their life, then they feel a Noor, a light, a tranquility, peace, a calm, a love, that they’ve never felt before and the only place they get it is in salat and the highest form of that is described in the Qur’an as Qurrath ul’ ain. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ says that Salah is the coolness of his eyes and that the highest form of his tranquility was kept in the prayer, was put in the prayer and when he made salah, he found the most peace. And if this is the greatest gift that can be had in this world, a connection with Allah SWT, a relationship with the Master, then for everyone that we love, we will want them to have the same gift genuinely.
The Ustadh then emphasizes on the need for Sabr in our existence which is an endearing quality and is highly appreciated by Allah SWT.

Chronicles of the Sahaba in their Youth
1 juli 2012 · 1 uur 30 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares with us the accounts of one particular Sahabi that we can draw specific lessons from. Lees meer
The initial part of the lecture dwells on a comparison in the stature and authority of Musa AS and Haroon AS. There’s a big difference in the way of leadership between the two.
For all of us, we have not seen Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and for the Sahaba that were seeing him, they had not seen Allah. They had not seen miracles from the sky, or anything supernatural, save a few of them who saw some particular incidents that we can pinpoint.
But for these specific companions of Musa AS who were in dire straits such as they were about to be executed by a tyrant ruler, whilst standing in the desert on the trust and promise made by Musa AS. It was not so easy for the companions of Musa AS to easily trust him in the wake of these trials and dangers.

Characteristics of Believers
1 juli 2012 · 32 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on the Ayahs at that start of the beautiful Surah Al Mu'minoon which emphasizes on the characteristics of believers. Lees meer
Allah (SWT) began this Surah saying:
Those you truly believe, those who have really attained a majority in their faith, these are the people that have already attained success, implying that they have already put a lot of work in to get there.
Those who are especially when it comes to their Salah, they have this quality called Khushu.
Those especially for the goal of cleansing themselves, purifying themselves.
The people that inherit the highest Paradise.
When it comes to the things they are trusted with and the promises they make, they don’t just fulfill them, they watch over them.Hence, we must pray to Allah (SWT) that He help us fulfill these obligations and expectations and make these difficulties ahead of us in cleansing ourselves easier for all of us and bring the love of the Quran and the love of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ into our hearts and into the hearts of our family.

Beware Bad Trendsetters
1 juli 2012 · 32 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on some Ayats from Surah al Baqarah where one of the main conversations is what people follow, who they end up following & why they follow who they follow. And on Judgment Day everybody stands up we see that there are trendsetters and there are trend followers. What happens next? Lees meer
Allah SWT is talking to people of the book, and through His Messenger ﷺ, He commands them to good things and forbids them from evil things. He makes permissible for them good and pure things and he makes impermissible for them filthy things. Hence, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tells us to do good things, keep us away from bad things, open the door to pure things for us and close the door from filthy things away from us, so we stay away from the filthy things. So, he is setting a trend of sorts for the progress of Deen.
As time goes in an ummah, society and its pressures starts mixing in and we get drawn into the obligation to abide by not what Allah says but the obligation to abide by what society says. The additional chains, additional burdens can all be eased if we embark on the path that the Messenger ﷺ sets to let go of those burdens. We think we follow societal pressure because it will make life easy. It makes nothing but make life harder.
Hence, it is mandatory that we pray that we are not of the people who are followers of evil trends but the kinds of people that are the right trend followers in the light of Deen. we should follow the path set by Ibraheem (AS) and understand the Book of Allah the way it should be understood and avoid falling into the tide of cultural forces and pressures. We should be of those who understand His book, love His book and implement His book in our lives. We must pray that Allah opens the doors of wisdom and the wisdom of the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ to all of us.

We must pray that Allah makes us the people of the Quran like the Messenger ﷺ envisioned us to be. Divine Speech Part 2
1 juli 2012 · 1 uur 18 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with the Qur’an being an incredible literature from many different angles. We can study this subject from many different points of view. Lees meer
The first of the viewpoints that is delved upon is precision in word choice or accurate word choice. The believer knows that the Qur'an is the speech of Allah. The speech of a human being is not necessarily calculated down to the word, but the speech of Allah is perfect because it comes from a source that is perfect. And that is illustrated with hundreds of thousands of examples in the Qur’an.
An interesting comparison is drawn from two words - Makkah and Bakkah. They both occur once in the Qur’an: once in the Qur’an in Surat Muhammad wherein Allah SWT uses the word Makkah and the word Bakkah. What is the purpose of this? Listen intently.
Allah's speaks about tranquility often in the Quran. The Arabic word for tranquility is “As-Sakeenah”. “He is the one who sent tranquility into the hearts of the believers, he sent it into the hearts of the believers. “ But in Suratu-l-Fath and Surat-At Tawba, Allah says: “He sent tranquility upon them.” In one place he says in the same Surah He sent tranquility inside their hearts; in another, He says he’s sent the tranquility upon them. What is the meaning of this?
The Qur’an is remarkable, stunning, mesmerizing literature to which there can never be any comparison even as we consider having an impact not just from a religious point of view but even from a psychological point of view. One can not be affected by anything one would ever listen or read as one will be by the Qur’an.`

Divine Speech Part 1
1 juli 2012 · 54 min
Ustadha Nouman Ali Khan delves into the topic of the lecture, “Literary characteristics of the Qur’an” which comprises the introductory phase of his talk. Lees meer
Allah says in the Qur'an “haadha balyaaghu li-n-nas”.“Balyaagh” in Arabic means that which reaches someone else, a communication. The Qur’an is meant to reach people. It is a message to people.
Hence, Ustadh speaks about the essential components of communication which is aimed at an appreciation of the Qur’an that is almost lost entirely upon people who are not students of the Qur’an and Arabic which is the majority of Muslims. There are three components of speech: the first one – the speaker, the second one – the content, the speech and the third one – the style, how they speak – the medium.
When we turn to the Qur’an we ask ourselves, and we ask ourselves revisiting the question, the Qur’an is a miracle. The Qur’an is remarkable. The Qur’an is stunning in its beauty and communication. It’s remarkable and incredible in three other ways too - it’s remarkable in that the speaker is incredible, the speaker himself. What else is incredible? The speech. What else is incredible? The style.
In the next part of the lecture, we are made aware of who Hamaan is. Who is Haman in the Qur’an? He is the minister or one of the ministers of Fir’awn. Hamaan is mentioned in the Qur’an about six times. Why so? Listen intently.
Then, we have acquaintance with two stories - the story of Tufayl ibn Amr ad-Dawsi and the story of ‘Utba ibn Rabi'ah.

Ghaflah/Heedlessness
1 juli 2012 · 29 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on the topic of heedlessness or Ghaflah which is the attitude of doing something without realizing what you're doing, not really thinking about what you're involved in, not really thinking or caring about how you're time is spent, or what comes out of your mouth, or what actions you perform, or how your actions impact other people, or how they impact your own self, your own personality. This sickness is the sickness of "Ghaflah". Lees meer
So how do we prevent this state from overpowering us? It's inevitable it will come upon us once in a while and how do we consciously attack this state? How do we consciously appreciate how to overcome Ghaflah and instead of being people of Ghaflah we become people of Dhikr?
The recitation of Quran, the listening to Dars of Qur'an should be made into a habit which was actually a legacy of the Sahaba. This is the means by which they don't let Ghaflah sink in. The longer it's been since you read Quran and reflected on Quran or learnt something about Quran, the worse off you'll feel inside your heart. This existence is that of Ghaflah.
We must have an uninterrupted relationship with the Quran and turn it into a habit so that we remain awake throughout our lives.

The Legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS)
1 juli 2012 · 1 uur 15 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan gives an awe-inspiring lecture on the great legacy of Ibrahim AS and the lessons that we need to imbibe from this great personality. Lees meer
Prophet Ibrahim AS went through innumerable trials and the many enormous feats that he has accomplished. The result of all these trials was that at the end of all of them, Allah gave him a certificate. Allah says to him that He has installed Ibrahim AS as the Imam over people, making him a leader over people, a role model for humanity. This is the medal of honor that is being given to Ibrahim AS after he went through some very difficult tests.
We can't even begin to imagine a human being going through the kinds of tests that Ibrahim AS had to go through. And yet he walked away with Tawakkul on Allah SWT. We should know about Ibrahim AS that when anything came to him, good or bad, who does he remember first? Allah SWT is the first thing that comes to his mind.
Who is going to walk away from the legacy of Ibrahim AS? Who's going to turn his back on the legacy of Ibrahim AَS? The only one to walk away from this legacy is the one who is fooling himself. We seek refuge in Allah SWT from this misguidance and pray ceaselessly to make us tread on the path of the righteous.

Who Are the People of Taqwa
1 juli 2012 · 31 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan gives a compelling lecture on the people of Taqwa and how we can identify them. Lees meer
The lecture begins with the reminder from a passage of Surah Ale Imran. Allah SWT calls us to the Friday prayer. The commandment occurs in Surah al Jumu'ah:
“And he says to us that when the call is made: Rush to the remembrance of Allah”
Also, in Surah Ale Imran, Allah says:
"Obey Allah and the Messenger so that you may be shown mercy. So that all of you may be shown mercy.”
In this ayah, Allah has attributed the obedience of Himself and His Messenger ﷺ with the one who is hopeful of getting mercy. The true muttaq never loses his hope in Allah. We should imbibe and inculcate the essence of a true muttaqeen. We should suppress our anger, forgive others lovingly, out of love for Allah. When we wrong themselves, we should immediately turn to Allah.
May Allah make us of those who never lose hope in Allah.

Islam and Ego
1 juli 2012 · 53 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on how religion itself becomes a means by which one promotes our own ego. It's ironic because the Deen came so we humble ourselves and now we are using that very Deen to express our arrogance. This is not something that happens only in our youth but happens amongst our elders too. Lees meer
Where does ego come from? Ego comes from the starting point when someone doesn’t truly appreciate who Allah is. When that happens, we replace it with an appreciation of ourselves; that’s where it starts. On the inside there is an urge to show our supremacy where we assume that we are more righteous, more qualified and in a better position than the other, then in our heart, we have accumulated Kibr or arrogance.
The first big problem that helps us cleanse the heart is the remembrance of Allah. How often do we remember Allah? if you didn’t put any thought in any of the routine Adhkar that we do, then we have defeated its purpose. If we just don’t reflect upon them, then it is not dhikr, that’s just good review. That’s all that is.
Allah should be thanked and He should be praised for everything. Despite your troubles, you say Alhamdulillah but when you mean it, its something else. Now you are really remembering Allah. This Hamd of Allah and giving credit to Allah, what does that teach us about ourselves?
We should pray to Allah to help us place our trust in Allah and not allow our hearts to become hard. He should make us a people sincerely of dhikr to Allah and grant us the gift of better company than ourselves that keeps our ego in check.we should also pray for the ability to give advice to those around us and make us share that love and affection and humility with the other Muslims and show them that sincerity from the bottom of our heart. We should pray that Allah makes us capable of taking advice and making the best of it and not allowing the advice to become a means by which our egos are inflated and keep us humble before Him, forgive our shortcomings t…
