Returning to Allah
23 juni 2012 · 47 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan showcases in the lecture on how we should never lose hope in Allah in spite of innumerable shortcomings and misdeeds that we might have committed in this lifetime. Lees meer
Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful” (Qur’an 39:53).
In the above Ayah, Allah SWT is addressing two different audiences. The first one addressed is the individual who is trying to preach Allah’s message. First and foremost, Allah SWT is talking to Prophet Muhammed ﷺ. The second one addressed in the verse is someone who has sinned so much that he has no hope of turning back to Allah SWT, and he has so much remorse and feelings of guilt that he thinks he has reached a point where there’s no way of receiving forgiveness. This sinner is being addressed through the agency of the Prophet or the da’iyah who recites and/or explains this verse to him and conveys the message of the boundless forgiveness and mercy of Allah SWT.
Whatever sins have been committed, Allah tells us that there is still hope of returning back to Allah SWT. But Shaitan plays his dirty tricks and coaxes us into believing that we are so deeply drowning in sin that we shouldn’t hope for Allah’s forgiveness. Shaitan capitalizes on one sin of ours and tries to trick us into doing more wrong things, thus taking us further away from Allah.
Can a man’s evil deeds compare with the power of Allah’s mercy?
We should learn how to supplicate Allah SWT and ask for forgiveness, believing with a full heart that Allah not only hears us, He sees us and knows full well what resides in our hearts. Despite having wronged ourselves by sinning, Allah still considers us as His slaves who are worthy of being forgiven if we make Tawbah (repentance) sincerely. He is extremely Forgiving (Al-Ghafoor) and always Merciful (Al-Raheem).
As a corollary, it is important that we guard ou…

The Want of Plenty, Distracted You
23 juni 2012 · 37 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on an explicit explanation of the two Ayats from Surah At-Takathur. The purpose behind this is to make it easy for people to remember Allah, even after a Dars is done. The Ustadh hopes that if one can recite those Ayahs and enjoy something Allah SWT calls Khushoo’, concentration, humility in the prayer, then the end to the means has been achieved. Lees meer
The word ILHA in the Arabic Language translates it as “DISTRACTION” actually comes from the word LAHU which originally in Arabic means 2 things. It means:
An entertainment.
Something that preoccupies you or gets all of your attention and keeps you from doing something that was much more important. It got so much of your attention that nothing else could get your attention while you were engaged in it.AT TAKATHUR in it has 3 essential things:
This word first and foremost means “THE WANT”, the desire to have more. It comes from “Kathra”- plentiness, plentifulness. The desire to have more. In other words, we are constantly worried about not what we have, but what we don’t have. We are always worried about getting more.
The second meaning of AT TAKATHUR is the “STRUGGLE FOR MORE”. Not just the want but to put effort into it and to exhaust yourself in getting that more.
The third meaning which is critical includes people who will say “We have more than you.” In other words, we have this urge to show off to each other how we have more than they do. -
Lessons From the story of Musa (AS)
23 juni 2012 · 38 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with the lessons imparted to us from an amazing individual that fascinates our imagination in the Quran and he is Moosa (AS). His narrative is mentioned at many places in the Quran and every time it's mind-boggling. Lees meer
The Ustadh shares with us tidbits that belong to Surah Taha where the dialogue between Moosa AS and Firaun is discussed and elucidated upon.
Elaborating on various Ayahs of the Qur'an via the stories shared with us, in one such instance - we are intrigued as to who Moosa AS is getting to meet? Allah! This is a conversation that is of epic proportions in human history. A conversation between Allah and human being and the conversation was initiated by Allah and the human was called by his name directly! .Moosa!
This part of the Ayah is exemplary with regard to the conversation Musa AS just had. If there's one thing Moosa AS is never going to forget, it's this.
What does Allah say in this conversation? Allah says, even you! if you really want to remember me, establish Salah. Can you imagine the importance of Salah now with respect to remembering Allah! Next comes the secondary purpose which reminds us of a reasserts the impending fact that the hour is coming. The Judgement day is coming.

Taking Back our Marrative
23 juni 2012 · 32 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan talks about taking our narrative back and he divides the conversation into two parts - the conversation has to be taken back from the forces outside of ourselves and the forces within ourselves Lees meer
People have always tried to hijack the narrative which is evident in the case of all Messengers of Allah ﷺ. Their portrayal started with character assassination; of them being accused of having agendas other than their actual agenda or it being a point of ridicule. Whether it was words like magic or sorcery or whether they were accused of being liars. One of the greatest examples of that, which are repeated in the quran is the discourse between Firoun and Musa (AS).
He next talks about the exact propaganda that Islam is being painted with, by certain fringe media outlets, that exact narrative is being duplicated by certain Muslims that are calling for their definition of Jihad fisabillillah and writing blogs and articles and papers and there are a string of aayat and ahadith and many are victim to it. So, we are heading down a dangerous path and it is therefore essential that we have to make a distinction between those who are seeking knowledge still and those who are more knowledgeable than us and those who are scholars.
Muslim youth in this country are pioneers and the Qur'an has to be studied in the right way such that it does not make us lazy and closes our eyes. Rather, it opens them! We must have the ability to carry this message as it should be carried in our speech, in our character, and in our actions. We must take this advice to heart and generate a source of motivation for the generations to come. We must strive to become a source of light in the midst of all this darkness and pray to Allah to protect us from vanity so that we are able to find a higher purpose and commit to it and become the people of balance. AMEEN!

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves and ponders on finding the true purpose of our existence with a “Thought Process”. Lees meer
Human beings have a sense of common decency across religions and cultures. So when we realized that there is a Creator, we also realized that He has created us in such a powerful way and He has given you abilities that He has not given to any other creatures. So when we acknowledge there’s a Creator and He created us amazingly well, with this profound intellect that He gave us and all these faculties and abilities – then what purpose do I have? We go back to the Creator to find our purpose and ask Him because He is the One who designed us.
Once we have reached this “Thought Process”, what’s our next step? We turn to the mysterious Creator declare one thing to Him that I acknowledge that you are my Creator; I acknowledge that I am supposed to be in service to You. Whatever I do in this life is supposed to live up to the purpose that you set for me, but I cannot fulfill that purpose on my own because I don’t know where to start. I don’t have anything. So even if I want to serve You, how am I going to do so unless you help me.
This “Thought Process” is the “Thought Process” of the Quran, the first Surah. The first Surah of the Quran is actually the “Thought Process” of someone seeking the Truth. How so?
Listen intently and be mesmerised by the profound description given by the Ustadh.
Now for people who are seeking this Truth, what is the measuring instinct? The first measure is our own conscience. The second measure is, if in fact, it is from God, then it has to meet one primary standard. And that primary standard is - there can be no one between me and the worship of the One True God.

In the Qur'an, Surah Al Baqarah, Verses 142 - 143,
“The foolish among the people will say, "What has turned them away from their qiblah, which they used to face?" Say, "To Allah belongs the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight path."And thus we have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allah has guided. And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.”
Allah SWT exposes in Surah Al Baqarah that there was a knowledgeable group among the Jewish community of Madinah that looked to this Messenger ﷺ and found that every single description that they were given about him in their books, so they came to the conclusion that in fact, this is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And at the same time they came to a very strange conclusion also that “no matter what we will not follow him, we will not accept him as a Messenger of Allah”. They actually start blaming Jibreel (AS) saying that he must have gone to the wrong address. so, Allah defends Jibreel (AS) in this Surah. Now, a new Ummah is being inaugurated by two major things:
The change of the Ka'bah.
The instillation of the month of Ramadan. These two things are identifying us as a distinct new nation completely separate from Bani Israel. How did these two events come into existence? Do listen intently.
What is the mean that we have become an Ummah and we share this responsibility?
The Messenger delivered the message to us and that message, in summary, is Allah’s book. His life mission was to deliver this book to the best of his ability and h…

11. The Coolness of Eyes
22 juni 2012 · 40 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into an analysis of the following verse from the Holy Qur'an.
“And those who say: Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the Muttaqun.’”
(Al-Furqan 25:74)
It is clear that the purpose of this Dua that we make often is due to our incessant inward love and fondness for our family. We strive endlessly into making them acquainted with the main principles and positive laws of Islam and the paths of truth and justice. Lees meerThe Arabic phrase “qurrata ‘ayn” means the apple of one’s eye, which basically means a person who is the cause of happiness and pride. This is originally derived from the word “qurr” which means coolness and since it is said that the tears of eagerness and happiness are always cool, the phrase means something that causes the eyes of a man to cool down. This implies happiness and joy.
The Muttaqin acquire the qualifications of greatness and leadership in a way that all the required attributes of a real leader are included in them and this is a herculean job given the severe and testing conditions in and around us. They are special servants of Allah and their knowledge, speech, thought and power helps in guiding people to the path of the Truth. They are the lanterns of guidance in the wake of storms and we should try to always inculcate values from them if not aiming at being them.

10. Characteristics of the People of Jannah

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the important characteristics of the Dwellers of Jannah in this enlightening lecture. Lees meer
In Surah Ale Imran, verses 133 to 136,
“Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden whose width is that (of the whole) of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous. Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity, or in adversity; who restrain anger, and pardon (all) men- for Allah loves those who do good. And those who, having done something to be ashamed of, or wronged their own souls, earnestly bring Allah to mind, and ask for forgiveness for their sins,- and who can forgive sins except Allah?- and are never obstinate in persisting knowingly in (the wrong) they have done. For such the reward is forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath,- an eternal dwelling: How excellent a recompense for those who work (and strive).”
In the above verses, Allah SWT describes some characteristics of people of Jannah that can be summarized as follows:These are the people who spend when it is easy and when it is difficult.
People who swallow their anger.
Those who lovingly forgive people.
Those who excel in their Deen. The above points have been dealt with individually in the most elaborate fashion for a clear and amazing comprehension. It deserves an intent listen.

9. Contradicting Community

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan explicitly talks about the people that are trying to hold on to any strand of religion but have become the outcasts of this ummah in their own homes and family and are the objects of ridicule. Lees meer
If one is studying the deen and destroying family relations at the same time, we must realize that our priorities are somewhere they shouldn’t be. It is paramount that we fix family ties. This is a fundamental of our religion. It’s a fundamental premise of our Deen.
How do we go about preaching religion without making it a big deal? We should strive to make da’ee and da'wah as nothing but rather, we must learn to take the hits and the insults and live with them. We must endeavor to change their behavior towards us. Be the best to your family and that is the da'wah of Islam.
Hence, it is essential that we pray to Allah to give us a sense of perspective and concern for the rest of this ummah and to teach us how to use our knowledge wisely and to deliver the words of advice and our naseehah in a place that is appropriate.also, we must make dua to Allah to put barakah in our words and reward us for the efforts that we make to serve his Deen.

8. Quran and Science
21 juni 2012 · 1 uur 14 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan takes up a topic of intrigue and is laced with interest for the modern generation. This lecture deals with the concept of science in the Quran. Lees meer
The Quran in Muslim belief is two things in one. It’s a divine message but at the same time, it is also a miracle. Miracles are a religious thing and are certainly not a scientific thing. What is a miracle in Islam? The classical scholars of Islam have enlisted many conditions for something to be considered a miracle according to Islamic theology:
Something that is impossible for human beings to do or perform. A miracle has to be something that can’t be manufactured.
Something that breaks the laws of nature.
Something that challenges mankind. In Arabic, Islamic scholars use the word - Mu’jiza- for describing a miracle. Mu’jiza means that which incapacitates the opponent and to overpower the opponent. But the word used in religious text – in Quran – and also in the Sunnah, the word used is Ayah. The word Ayah, however, is translated into two things: it means a miracle, and it means a sign. So a good translation of Ayah that alludes to both would be a miraculous sign.
In the coming minutes of the lecture, we see an interesting blend of a back and forth between examples from the Qur'an and Sunnah that are for miracles while also simultaneously citing numerous examples from a scientific point of view. These examples show the supreme place that the Qur'an occupies in the existence of mankind.

5. Signs of a Hypocrite
20 juni 2012 · 30 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with the signs of a hypocrite and how one should be wary of them. Lees meer
Allah (SWT) tells us in the Quran, “The hypocrites, they are in the lowest pit of Hellfire.”The lower the hellfire gets, the tougher it gets. The lowest pit possible in Hellfire is reserved for al-Munaafiqoon—the hypocrites. Allah tells His Messenger ﷺ twice in the Quran: It is all the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them; never will Allah forgive them. (Quran; Surah al-Munaafiqoon, ayah 6)
These people have reached a point of no return in their hypocrisy. It would be the same for them whether you made istighfar for them or you didn’t make istighfar for them. It means that Allah is telling His Messenger ﷺ that if you ask Allah to forgive them or you never asked, it wouldn’t make a difference. Allah wouldn’t forgive the hypocrites.
It is also mentioned in the Quran Allah says, “If you should ask forgiveness for them seventy times - never will Allah forgive them.” (Quran; Surah at-Tawbah, ayah 80)
Among the numerous signs of a hypocrite are:
Whenever he speaks, he lies.
When he is argued/ debated/ disagreed with, he explodes.
Whenever he is entrusted with something, he violates that trust.
He makes a promise; he goes back on his promise.
They don’t spend except that they regret it.
They don’t even come to the prayer except that they are lazy. -

"How do you know that God exists?”
“How do you come to faith?”
“How did faith come to you?"
These are the pertinent questions asked by an atheist and Ustadh tries to elaborate on the answers with soundproof.
We are now acquainted with the Quran’s reasoning. The Quran does not ask the question or answer the question “Does God exist?”.
The Quran is Allah speaking himself. And He is in conversation with his creatures. He is in direct conversation with us. The only question He asks is -“Do you really believe it is Me talking? Do you really believe that these words are my own?”
One is not hearing Allah’s words; infact we are hearing the voice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
“Are there other God that you should be worshipping besides Myself?”
“Do you think that you are going to worship yourselves and not Me?”
“Do you think that you are going to thank others other that Myself?”
These are the kinds of questions that the Quran asks. So this gives rise to another important question - “How come Quran never asks that question? How come the Quran never deals with the question that God ever exist or not? Why not?"
Listen intently and be mesmerized with the beautiful explanation for the above questions and discover the settling of one’s doubts and apprehensions.

2. Islamophobia
20 juni 2012 · 32 min
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan analyses the goals of Islamophobia and the need for Muslims to comprehend the tricks being adopted for the same. He advises a spiritual and pragmatic approach to be adopted. He goes on to examine the reason for this xenophobia and Islamophobia that is widely prevalent around us. He assists the Muslims via ways to overcome such trials and tribulations in any part of the world. Lees meer
The unprecedented hatred against the Muslims, the rise of anti-Islamophobic crimes and much more can be attributed largely to ignorance of the people and also due to genuine worry and fear for their own kith and kin. The hatred, animosity, and misinterpretation that we see around us is actually the result of the people being terrified and scared due to the thought of having to part with his freedom and being jeopardized.
Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has said: "Later times are going to be afflicted with trials you are going to find difficult to bear" and "Every time one comes, it will make the previous one look trivial". The people will say "this is the one, this is the one" thinking it is much more than the previous.”
The above Hadith is the reality of the hour with Islamophobia at its peak. The reality of the hour is also the need for the Muslim Ummah to step up. We should let go of our nonchalant and ignorant attitude towards these trials and adopt a constructive approach filled with the propagation of the truth of Islam for the betterment of our religion.
These trials have only been brought down into this trivial world to purify the hearts of the believers and reinstall undying faith and love for the religion of Islam. Hence, it is our primary duty to do whatever it takes within permissible limits to ensure that our Deen does not suffer at the hands of these monstrosities.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan makes us ponder on the 54th Ayah of Surah-An Nisa of the Noble Qur'an.
“Or do they envy people for what Allah has given them of His bounty? But we had already given the family of Abraham the Scripture and wisdom and conferred upon them a great kingdom.”
Surah Nisa includes many instructions for Muslims and how to set up themselves as a community. And in it it also has principles for us of how to go beyond the community and really truly become a nation. So you know there is this idea of us the smallest unit of humanity being an individual and beyond that being a family and beyond that being a neighborhood and beyond that being a community and even beyond that being a nation. And so these stepping stones that lead us to become a solidify nation, an Ummah. Lees meer
