Episode 38.5 - Tailc Son Of Treon - Post Show Chat
12 mei 2020 · 1 uur 11 min
This story is a bit mad and the main thing we will talk about is probably how we did it/ how we do the music for the podcasts in general. Lees meer
Saying that I think it will be messy if we have four voices talking about the topics on this story. So I suggest that I to Sorcha for a half hour first on a couple of the following ideas, and then at half one Ru and Oisin come in to offer the musical perspective:
Themes in this story:
After a quick re-cap of this story we talk about the following:
Notes I want to mention briefly - the Native American relief thing which is great, the closing down of Bewleys in Dublin, and the Darkness into light this week. Bealtaine and the rest....
The abusive relationship element that appears at the start.
The idea of disposable warriors/young men in war (this jumped out at me as a thing in this). Survival of the tribe depends on the sacrifices of young men - .... thoughts?
Then that can lead us to Grainne and her position in this story. Her sympathy of the grieving wife and her lament.
The lack of a second source and the difficulty we had with getting the story right due to its weird beats - the rythm and the moods.
This last one brings in the lads to talk about:
How ye put Music to beats
Live vs Podcast
Why was this one so hard?

Bright Blue Blade-
The rightful ruler of the Fianna was not given her chance, and so the demise of the Fianna happened shortly after. When the wrong people are in charge … bad things happen, that’s a given, but when the right person doesn't get given the role they deserve it seems to inflict more doom in the potential false prosperity that person might bring. Episode 35 - Éachtach Live (Sugar Club)
17 april 2020 · 17 min
We found the story of Éachtach in Richard Marsh’s book, Irish King and Hero Tales, translated from an Old Irish poem. And we’ve found it nowhere else.
http://richardmarsh.ie/LegendaryBooks.htm Lees meerShe’s the daughter of Diarmuid and Gráinne, two of the most famous characters in Irish mythology, and a formidable warrior who defeated the great Captain of the Fianna, Fionn Mac Cumhaill, and isn’t it strange that nobody has ever heard of her?
This telling was recorded live at the Sugar Club in Dublin in February 2020. Told by Sorcha Hegarty with music by Oisín Ryan, Ru O’Sé and Audrey Trainor. This podcast was produced and edited by Oisín Ryan. We will be talking about this podcast in our live streamed chat on the 25th of April.

Episode 33.5 - Diarmuid & Grainne Post Show Live Chat - Part 1
17 april 2020 · 38 min
D & G
Post show recap of bits that were missed! Lees meerSo…. we will be hearing the second part of that next week. During this time of lockdown we will be trying to get some extra content out as much as possible.
Youtube videos from previously live shows going up.
So subscribe to youtube to see them.
And more podcasts.
We encourage people who request stories, and this story was after all requested so we went ahead and told it. Because it’s such a big story, we split it in two. It’s fitting in fact as the first time Sorcha and I ever split up a story in live performance was D & G and it was mighty craic. Now in a moment we are going to flick over to the recorded chat between Sorcha and myself that went up live on Instagram. So just to explain, I had a sound issue with my home recording zoom mic and messed up on my end. So apologies if my voice sounds a bit echoey and low in the chats here. Also we were joined by people from People tuned in from Australia, Brasil, Seville, Galicia ... Clare and someone in a meadow in a forest in Bavaria! Thank you guys for tuning.
Next week we will be talking more about the complex nature of this couples relationship but for now we are catching up with this live chat, in the midst of it. Where Diarmuid was put in a tricky position. Graine keeps putting a geis on him to do the things … something has to give
Grainne is a more complex character than we give her credit for.

Episode 32 - The Settling of The Manor of Tara
15 maart 2020 · 31 min
Ireland has four provinces, but the word for “Province” in Ireland means “a fifth”. This is one of the stories of that lost fifth province, a place where the High Kings ruled, and of how and why it was organised the way that it was. Lees meer
We recorded this podcast while Ireland was gearing up for another election, and we (like everybody else) were thinking about the way we think the place should be run. This is not a political podcast, because some things are timeless. This is a look at another way of doing things, that might never have existed, but that we dream of still.

Episode 29 - The Sound Of NOW Special Edition
9 januari 2020 · 38 min
Happy New Now folks! We are bringing you a very special treat for your senses in this episode. Lees meer
The Fianna were lead by the great warrior Fionn Mac Cumhaill. And he had the wisdom of this world and the next. He had burnt his thumb on the Salmon of Knowledge when he was young, and in this short story, he imparts a beautifully simplistic message that we want to share with you.
In this episode, Aron talks to the third founding member of Candlelit Tales, Ru O’Shea. Ru brought the music to CT back in 2014 when we started off in the Stags Head so long ago (feels like yesterday… dang timey wimey). And since then Ru has been on an epic journey of discovery himself. He has trained to become a music teacher and become a trained sound practitioner, as well as continuously performing with us as both a musician (of many instruments) and as a Storyteller in our live shows as well.
We speak about sound, the therapeutic nature of it and our upcoming Storytelling and Sound Bath experience. If you’d like to find out more about this on the 19th of January, follow this link to purchase your ticket:

Brían de Gúl is a singer-songwriter from Cork. You can find him on facebook at www.facebook.com/BriandeGul. The song you heard was “Tramps and Hawkers,” a favourite of Brian’s, in his words: “Twas written in the 19th century by hawker Besom Jimmy, but it was passed on to singers involved in the early times of the folk revival by Scottish Traveller Jimmy Macbeath. He used tramp the roads all his working life, in search of farm work and places to sing. He used sing for his dinner at fairs and markets while farm workers were on their break. Also, I’ve been told recently that my great grandfather was a hawker in Doneraile in North Cork!”

Episode 04 - The Curse of Macha
26 december 2018 · 34 min

But this was all inspired by a book given to him by Caitlin Moon, so shout out to her. Lees meer
