  1. Rachael DeVaux—Every Healthy Eating Question, Answered: Losing Weight, Balancing Hormones, Healing Gut Issues & More LIVE FROM SEATTLE

This is a special event, live from Seattle book tour stop where there was an amazing crowd—we had the best night, and I hope you feel like you were there in spirit. I was joined on stage by friend Rachael DeVaux (@rachaelsgoodeats), a registered dietitian, the co-owner of Toast Society Cafe, and the founder of her own workout program, Good Sweat.
This episode is all about healthy eating—literally answering every single question you’ve ever had about healthy eating, from the broad to the really, really nuanced. We get into whether to eat organic or not, what we actually eat in a day, how to save money on healthy food, thoughts on being paleo, vegan, keto, and more, intermittent fasting, if calories matter, and the best diets for weight loss. We talk about the best healthy desserts, the best healthy pastas, the one food everyone should eliminate from their diet to be healthier and the one they should add in, the two foods everyone should eat for hormone balance, and tons more. I’ve listened to a ton of healthy eating podcasts, and I often come away feeling like I’ve learned a lot, but I have no idea what to do TODAY in order to be healthier or to solve a specific issue, and I really wanted this episode to answer those questions. You’ll come away EXCITED about healthy eating, but also really knowing what to buy at the grocery store, what to make for breakfast, how to solve your specific gut issues, and more. Rachael is a wealth of knowledge and because this is a live event you’ll hear a bit more from me as well—but you have any lingering questions about healthy eating, please ask on Instagram (@lizmoody and @rachaelsgoodeats)—maybe we’ll do a follow up episode!

I’m so excited about today’s guest, McKel Kooienga (née Hill), a registered dietitian who founded Nutrition Stripped, a brand that includes wellness coaching, healthy eating programs, a cookbook, and a ton more. While she has a thriving business, it’s also abundantly clear how much she’s driven by actually helping people, which is refreshing and more rare than I’d like it to be.
I asked for your questions on Instagram (make sure you’re following @lizmoody to send in Qs for future guests), and you really wanted to know about how she’s built such an incredible business and life, so we talk about that a ton. McKel has amazing tips for combating burnout, minimizing stress, and still making a ton of money. We talk about her various revenue streams, what most people get wrong when they start their own company, what she credits with her phenomenal success, and more. We also talk about McKel’s own health issues, including how she beat the debilitating migraines she used to suffer from, and what she thinks are the easiest ways to make over your diet.
Finally, we talk about the amazing story of how McKel manifested her husband. I’m a skeptic about manifestation, but this story GOT ME, and I’m so excited for you to hear it.

On today’s episode, we dive into all things nutrition with Kelly LeVeque (@bewellbykelly). Kelly is a holistic nutritionist and wellness wonder woman, with a best-selling book, Body Love, and a client list that includes basically every A-lister in Hollywood, including Jessica Alba and Jennifer Garner. She’s also the nicest human being, a total girl next door that you’d want to hang out with on a Saturday afternoon. In this episode, we talk about Kelly’s own health journey, including how she came up with her famous “Fab Four” philosophy. I grill her on the nitty gritty of nutrition, including what types of protein powders are good for you, what supplements we should all be taking, how trendy things like celery juice and collagen fit in and more. Then, we get chatty—I asked her to spill all the dirt on what working with super famous people is actually like, and I was actually really surprised by her answers. We talk about the mega success of Body Love and why her life looks WAY different than most people expect, and we get into her relationship with her brilliant, super hot husband Chris. I’m obsessed with this episode because it’s like a dose of the best healthy eating advice you’ve ever heard mixed in with real talk about relationships, money, and life, with some celeb gossip thrown in. It’s basically my dream conversation, and I hope you love it too.

This conversation represents some of my favorite elements of the Healthier Together podcast—a casual, frank conversation about everything from religion to anxiety to weight loss to pursuing your passion and how that should fit in with earning money. 7. Things You’re Not Supposed To Talk About—Money, Sex, & Body Image with Sophie Jaffe & Courtney Swan LIVE FROM LA

On this special live episode of the Healthier Together podcast, recorded from the LA stop of my book tour, I sat down with two of my favorite women, Sophie Jaffe (@sophie.jaffe) and Courtney Swan (@realfoodology) to talk about “things you’re not supposed to talk about.” We all bonded over having zero filter, so this is an incredibly candid discussion about money (including how we make our money and lots of hard numbers!), sex (definitely don’t listen to this part in the car with kids!), and a super real, raw look at body image.
I had a bit of a vulnerability hangover after recording this one, but the content is so good that I couldn’t not share it. I hope you feel like you’re with your most open girlfriends, breaking down the barriers of shame that have made women feel not good enough for centuries.

Anna Jones (@we_are_food) is the award-winning author behind three mega-popular cookbooks, A Modern Way To Cook, A Modern Way To Eat, and The Modern Cook’s Year. The Guardian columnist came up in the industry as one of Jamie Oliver’s proteges, and now is a household name revered for her delicious, accessible (but never boring!) plant-based fare.
On this episode of the Healthier Together podcast, Anna shares a ton of tips that got me excited about cooking vegetable-forward food again, including how she adds umami flavor to vegetables, her go-to breakfast, her weeknight dinner hacks, the ingredients she always has in her pantry, and more. She also shares what it’s like to actually write a cookbook and develop recipes, and the productivity method that helped her along the way. Finally, she lets us in our her unusual career path, that led her from a desk job to starring on a TV show with Jamie Oliver and ultimately penning her own books.

  10. Serena Wolf, Ali Maffucci, and Liz Moody — How To Get Your Partner To Be Healthier, The BEST Diet For Health & Happiness, And Which Wellness Practices ACTUALLY Work

    17 april 2019 · 1 uur 22 min

Welcome to a very special episode of the Healthier Together podcast—the Healthier Together book launch LIVE panel. As many of you lovely humans know, I just released my cookbook, also called Healthier Together (and it’s already a number one best seller, thanks to all of your amazing support!).
This episode was recorded live at the Healthier Together book launch event, and I think you might like it even more than a traditional episode because you get two amazing guests, and way more of my personal perspective on health, food, and life.
My guests are two of my dear friends in the food world: Serena Wolf and Ali Maffucci. You might remember Ali from Episode 8 of the podcast, where she shares her mom’s crazy kidnapping story and how it changed her outlook on life (if you haven’t listened yet, definitely do so!). Ali’s a phenomenal businesswoman—she’s a best-selling author of three cookbooks, the woman behind the Inspiralized brand, and the Inspiralizer, and an amazing mom to her cute son, Luca, on top of all that. I love Ali’s warmth and wisdom, and she has such an amazing positive perspective on food and life that I’m excited to share with you all.
Serena is the woman behind the best-selling Dude Diet cookbook, and the amazing site, domesticate-me.com. We’ve bonded over our shared anxiety, but also because she’s truly one of the funniest people I know. Honestly, she kind of bugged me on the panel because she kept saying exactly what I was going to say before I said it—that’s how aligned our life perspectives are.
In this episode, we get into healthy eating, chatting about what’s actually the healthiest diet, the food advice that’s total BS, the one food I use to conquer my sweet tooth, and more. We also get into other wellness practices (CBD, how to motivate yourself to workout, adaptogens, and more). Then we get into the “together” element of the book, talking about how to make friends as an adult, how to get your partner to eat healthy when they REALLY don’t want to…

  11. Sahara Rose — Telling The Real From The BS With Ayurveda, Making Money Off Your Own Brand, And Manifesting Your Dreams (Even If Your Parents Don’t Approve)

Sahara Rose (@iamsahararose) is one of the world’s leading Ayurveda experts, but there’s so much more to her story than that. The daughter of immigrants, Sahara had to risk losing it all to find her life path—and while it was (obviously) eventually worth it, it wasn’t an easy journey. Now, Sahara is the best-selling author of The Idiot’s Guide to Ayurveda and Eat Feel Fresh (both of which have a forward from Deepak Chopra—a crazy story that she shares in this episode).
We sat down in Sahara’s gorgeous apartment to talk about how she followed her calling, even when her parents didn’t approve. We talk about the health crises that lead her to Ayurveda, including losing her period completely, and how Ayurveda helped her heal. I also make her answer all the nitty gritty questions I’ve ever had about the validity of Ayurveda—what’s worth applying to your life, what’s BS, and what should be tweaked a bit for the modern world. Sahara is a master female entrepreneur, so we also get into the nuts and bolts of building your own brand, including how she grew her following and what parts of her business really make her money. Sahara is a mover and shaker who’s changing the world—and she’s so so open about everything from her personal life to her finances, which you all know I love.
I’m giving away a copy of Sahara’s new cookbook, Eat Feel Fresh, over my Instagram—enter to win on @lizmoody.

She’s also written two books, including Aim True, which contains my favorite healthy spaghettios recipe in the world. Now, she’s moved into designing performance wear with her collection with Kira Grace (the slashed leggings are the best). Kate Fagan spent years as an ESPN host, and wrote the NYTimes best-selling book What Made Maddy Run. Kate & Kathryn host the Free Cookies podcast together.
We sat down in Kate & Kathryn’s beautifully decorated Charleston home to get intimate about so many things (I LOVE how open these two are). We get into the nitty gritty of success—both Kate and Kathryn found it, and then reevaluated what it meant in their lives, coming to conclusions I found fascinating and really really inspiring. We also share some real talk about sex (including defining sex in a new way), and they share their love story, and how they met. We talk about money, and what Kate learned about money from her dad (I was shook, truly). Finally, Kate shares the 5 wellness practices that changed Kathryn’s life the most. It’s a really fun, loose conversation that veers from digital minimalism to orgasms and back again, and I love it—and I hope you guys do too.

We recorded this episode sitting on her couch in LA, and it quickly got very girl-talky. We also talk at length about her experience with Guillain-Barre syndrome, which struck her suddenly while she was in Spain, and left her paralyzed and in extreme pain in a foreign country for over a month. The illness changed her perspective on the world and her life, and her insights about that time are moving and illuminating.
Mari is one of the wisest souls that I’ve met; her thoughts on both the grand and minute moments of life are almost startlingly empathetic, and her ability to to capture the true essence of things will spark “aha!” moments in people young and old. I say in this episode that her work and life are a gift to us all, and I mean it—I can’t wait for you to hear the woman behind the wisdom.

  16. Inspiralized’s Ali Maffucci — Her Mom’s Kidnapping (!!), Bell’s Palsy, And Where She Gets Her Happiness & Confidence

Ali Maffucci (@inspiralized) is the woman behind the Inspiralized juggernaut, which includes three best-selling cookbooks (Inspiralized, Inspiralize Everything, and Inspiralized & Beyond), an amazing, recipe-filled blog, and the world’s best spiralizer, the Inspiralizer (no really—I’ve tried so many and this is the one I personally use).
Ali is an incredibly successful businesswoman, mom, and partner—and she makes it all look effortless and even fun. I spend a lot of this podcast trying to figure out how she’s so calm, confident, and collected—which leads us to one of the craziest stories I’ve ever heard in real life or on the podcast. A few years back, Ali’s mother was kidnapped from her home in New Jersey. She tells the whole story on this episode, but the way that it changed her outlook on life is fascinating, and hopefully, hearing it will change the way you look at the world too.
We also talk about the Bell’s Palsy that paralyzed half of her face, self-confidence, weight-loss (Ali lost 30 pounds early in her wellness journey), building a business, her relationship with her husband Lu, becoming a mom, and so much more. If you love Ali (who doesn’t?), want inspiration for starting your own company, are a new mom, or are simply interested in living your healthiest, happiest life, this episode is a must-listen.
For every episode of the Healthier Together podcast, there will be a corresponding giveaway—this week, it’s Ali’s favorite yoga pants and a copy of her newest cookbook. Check out @lizmoody to enter!

Grace Smith (@gracesmithtv) is a celebrity hypnotherapist and the author of the just-released sure-to-be bestseller, Close Your Eyes, Get Free. If you’re skeptical about hypnosis, trust me— was too. Then I worked with Grace on my fear of flying, and read into some of the science behind the very misunderstood practice, and now, well, I’m a believer. In this episode, we get into the nitty gritty of how hypnosis actually works, how it compares to meditation, some of Grace’s biggest client success stories, how she used hypnosis to quit smoking, and more. Grace also shares her very personal birth story, and how she thought that as a hypnosis guru her birth would be low key, relaxed and magical—but it was anything. She talks about what happened and how the trauma of this changed her approach to hypnosis forever. Stay tuned for the end, where Grace does a hypnosis session for stress relief. For more from Grace, check out her website, gshypnosis.com.

  22. Kale & Caramel’s Lily Diamond — Essential Oils, Natural Healing With Herbs, Dealing With Grief, And Self-Love

Lily Diamond (@lilydiamond) is the woman behind the beautiful Kale & Caramel blog, where she shares fresh, creative recipes, travel tips, and more. Her cookbook, Kale & Caramel: Recipes for Body, Heart, and Table features 80 vegetarian and vegan recipes created around various herbs and flowers. She’s also a beautiful writer and she’s really, really smart (she might not tell you this, but she went to Yale).
Lily spent the first few years of her life on a California commune (basically, a cult—we get into this in the episode!) before moving to Maui, where she lived a mango-studded version of a paradise. She grew up relying on natural healing—and then her mother got sick from cancer, challenging all of the beliefs Lily had been raised with.
In this episode, we discuss what made Lily become vegan—and what made her stop; her process of moving through grief and how her mother’s death changed her life; how to use plants and essential oils for healing; her self-love and self-acceptance journey; and so much more.

Welcome to the first ever episode of the Healthier Together podcast. On this episode, you’ll meet Liz Moody, the host of this podcast (that’s me!). I’m the author of Glow Pops and the upcoming Healthier Together cookbook (Clarkson Potter, April 2019). A former newspaper columnist, I spent years traveling the world, studying cooking in Italy and Argentina, going to sommelier school in France, and living with a healer in the mountains of Morocco. Now, I’m the Food Director at mindbodygreen, one of the world’s leading wellness websites. On my own site, lizmoody.com, I share wellness tips and healthy recipes, like the strangely viral Super Healthy Snickers Pie.
On this episode, I’m joined by her husband of two years and partner of ten, Zack. Zack’s a rock-climbing entrepreneur with a soft spot for our pet cat, Isabella. To kick off the Healthier Together Podcast, we discuss their own wellness journeys (mine involved smoking cigarettes and a lot of Ben & Jerry’s) and how we got, well, healthier together. We also talk about what it’s like for Zack to deal with my anxiety; the best way to make new habits stick; meditation; the healthiest diet; the secret to real relationship success; how to get your partner to be healthier (even if they really don’t want to) and so much more.
