Seth and Jon are joined by Poul Holmelund, author of The Horror, an amazing Call of Cthulhu scenario that utilizes the Kidthulhu rules originally published in the Halloween scenario, The Dare.

The Horror is set on the Danish island of Bornholm. It's the 1980s, and the players are kids on a camping trip on the island, when a dark force, originally entombed by the Knights Templar, escapes! And only the kids are able to re-imprison or destroy it! All this and cake too, (seriously)!!!

In this episode Seth and Jon take a closer look at The Year of the Goat, a massive anthology of twelve Call of Cthulhu scenarios in a variety of time periods. Today we're talking to Antonio Marchena, Matt "Doc" Tracy, and Evan Perlman. Lees meer

Antonio Marchena's very first published scenario is THE HOUSE OF FLESH, a modern scenario that emulates the kinds of horrors seen in movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The House of 1000 Corpses.

Doc Tracy authored MOTHER, MAIDEN, CRONE, a scenario of difficult choices set in the 90's.

Evan Perlman partnered with Heinrich Moore as a Project Manager on this amazing and ambitious project.

Episode 59 Sponsor: Daniel Harila Carlsen! Lees meer

Thank you, Daniel, for sponsoring this episode. Daniel is an aspiring illustrator, RPG writer, and graphic designer based in Oslo, Norway. He's versatile in a variety of physical mediums and design technologies. He invites you to check out his portfolio and consider him for your next TTRPG project. Portfolio: https://danielharilacarlsen.myportfolio.com/

Daniel illustrated the Tiger Princess of Treacherous Tripura, currently on Backerkit. We'll include some music composed by Michael Sollien for that fantasy RPG campaign at the end of the show. Backerkit: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/mudknight-media/the-tiger-princess-of-treacherous-tripura

Keris McDonald is the lead editor for the Cthulhu by Gaslight line for Chaosium. Her first project is Dust and Blood, a scenario book for Cthulhu by Gaslight. And she's shaping Gaslight's first major campaign, The Curse of Seven, into its final stage to prepare it for publication. Included in Dust and Blood are two scenarios, Ashes to Ashes, and Signs Writ in Scarlet.

Ashes to Ashes: The investigators are assumed to be working-class employees at Lange's Dust Yard, a disposal center for the city's trash. All in the yard is not as it seems, and death looms cloaked in a cloud of dust.

Signs Writ in Scarlet: Set in London's East End, the investigators are drawn to solve the mystery of a series of murders. The brutally murdered victims each bear a strange glyph etched into flesh.

Both Mike and Keris also edit and guide Call of Cthulhu products so they are ready for publication, including the new Pulp Cthulhu scenario book, Clockworks and Claws. The scenarios included are Of Clockwork & Clay, and Wolf Among the Flock.

Sponsorship: Thank you to artist and friend of the show, Daniel Harila, for sponsoring this episode. Daniel is the artist on The Tiger Princess of Treacherous Tripura, an OSE city-crawl box set currently on Backerkit. Lees meer

The Tiger Princess of Treacherous Tripura is a city-crawl through a profane realm of the subtle divines of Vedic myth created in homage to the City-State of the Invincible Overlord and serving as a meta-commentary on syncreatism, hedonism, and orientalist tropes on India across the history of gaming.

Seth attended Chaosium Con USA 2026, and he has returned to tell the tales of gaming, panels, and the love of "Bar-Con." Seth also joined Scott and Keith on the Titterpigs Podcast, so find that episode on your podcatcher of choice.

Seth is also excited to run Mongoose's latest Paranoia RPG at a retreat for Dungeon-Tubers.

Jon attended Midwest GameFest 2026, and he has tales of witches and panels. And he's excited to run a new (to him) horror RPG called Obscure, by Sunzenaut.

Ep.55 - Exploring New Adventures

28 januari 2026 · 1 uur 4 min

Afspelen

Exorcist's Codex Lees meer

2025 by Two Starving Gnolls (Pax Cthuliana, Svasbard - system-neutral adventures)

Uses BRP mechanics (with ORC License)

1890s Demon Hunters

Mechanics

Several Occupations - Occupations offer special abilities, restrictions, and modifiers to Faith (Relic Hunter, Priest, demonologist, occult detective, Church Licensed Exorcist, etc)

Holy Faith Factor - source of Power, but higher it is the more susceptible to Demonic Corruption

Instead of SAN they Have Spirit - works very similar, but one key difference is that it replenishes with time. Speed based off how low it is. Spirit can be spent to inf;uency Destiny Rolls (sorta like Luck rolls)

Criticisms - I dislike BRP Resistance Table. Feel the 7e CoC should have been used for BRP, but they chose not to. Unsure on diversity of adventures. But I haven't read too deep.

Indiana Jones RPG

1984 by TSR (David Cook - game designer)

Uses Percentile dice for Attribute Test resolutions

Setting: Pulp 1930s pre-war

Mechanics

Attributes - All characters have six attributes: Strength, Movement, Prowess, Backbone, Instinct, and Appeal.

Each Attribute has four percentile values: Normal, Twice Normal (x2), Half of Normal (1/2), and One-Quarter of Normal (1/4).

Referee (GM) determines the difficulty of an Attribute Test, and then the player attempts to roll percentile dice equal to or less than the declared difficulty level.

Characters have Skills, but no skill has a percentile value; instead having an appropriate skill, (or using a skill in a clever way), can influence the difficulty level of an Attribute Test, typically making it an easier test if the character possesses the needed skill, or possibly more difficult if the character does not have the needed skill.

This episode is sponsored by Matt "Doc" Tracey, and his amazing Call of Cthulhu scenarios, Ghost Trade, and Lights in the Trees.

Ghost Trade is a classic 1920s scenario set in the fictional town of Pennybrook, Maine. The investigators visit Pennybrook to study a spike in the number of earthquakes in the region. Townsfolk say the earthquakes are the result of the Pennybrook ghost. Clearly, there is a rational scientific reason for the earthquakes, and the investigators are determined to find out what it is.

Ghost Trade on DriveThruRPG

Lights in the Trees is a 1975 post-Vietnam War setting scenario. The investigators are veterans of the War, platoon brothers, who are called back together to help one of their own who's having trouble adjusting to life back at home. Can they help their friend conquer his personal demons, or will those demons consume them as well?

Jon and James talk about this inaugural book by author, Seamus Cooper, and (spoilers!) we loved it! Here is the Amazon blurb:
A decade ago, college student Laura Harker was saved from a fate worse than death at the hands (and fangs) of a centuries-old vampire priestess and her Satanic minions. Her rescuer, an awkward, geeky folklore student named Teddy, single-handedly slew the undead occupants of the Omega Alpha sorority house, spurred into heroic action by fate itself, inexorably intertwining his and Laura's destinies.

After navigating her way through law school, Laura is now a junior FBI agent assigned to the Bureau's Boston office. Unfortunately, she finds her job involves more paperwork than adventure. Ted, on the other hand, has spent the past decade perfecting the ultimate latte, and works as a barista in a nearby corporate chain coffeehouse named for a character in Moby Dick.

When Ted stumbles onto a group of Cthulhu cultists planning to awaken the Old Ones through mystic incantations culled from the fabled Necronomicon, calling forth eldritch horrors into an unsuspecting world, he and Laura must spring into action, traveling from Boston to the seemingly-peaceful suburbs of Providence and beyond, all the way to the sanity-shattering non-Euclidian alleyways and towers of dread R'lyeh itself, in order to prevent an innocent shopping center from turning into... The Mall of Cthulhu.

We want to thank author Keller O'Leary and Space Cat Publishing for sponsoring this episode. Check out "The Great American Dynasty," a true-blue, red-blooded, modern-day Call of Cthulhu scenario!

Investigators are tasked with retrieving old files hidden in the home of a fellow "society" member who passed away from (seemingly) natural causes. The scenario blends iconic American folklore together with Lovecraftian Mythos to weave a story with roots long predating the founding of the American colonies. Can your investigators survive a terror that's over 600 years in the making?

The Great American Dynasty is a three-part mystery filled with abductions, body horror, mutilations, and violence. Also, be on the lookout for Space Cat Publishings next scenario, "The Curse of Punk," where you explore the terrifying underbelly of punk society in the 1980s.

Of Sorrow and Clay is a dark tale about family that takes you deep into the Appalachian Mountains of 1920s Kentucky in search for your old Pa. As his neighbor Jack puts it, "he says it was time to go see his wife, Sadie." The only problem is she went missing decades earlier, and the old coot hasn't been back in days. With hat in hand, Jack is begging you to put your squabbling aside and help him find your father before he does something he'll regret in those dark, foreboding woods.

This character-driven story comes with five detailed Pre-gens to pick from, each with their

own secrets and grudges to keep. You may not like each other, but blood is blood, and it

runs deep in the black soils of the holler.

Ladened with moral choices, Of Sorrow and Clay offers plenty of role-playing opportunities

and is perfect for conventions running for 3 to 4 hours. It also offers a host of GM guidance

to help you wrangle the wayward Taft family.

Episode Sponsor: The Great American Dynasty, by Keller O'Leary, published by Space Cat Publishing.

The Great American Dynasty is a true-blue, red-blooded, modern-day Call of Cthulhu scenario!

Also, be on the lookout for Space Cat Publishing's next scenario, "The Curse of Punk," where you explore the terrifying underbelly of punk society in the 1980s.
