From Retro Glory to Horizon Forbidden Love: Gaming Through the Ages with RGT and Triple S
30 juni 2024 · 1 uur 32 min
Send us Fan Mail Lees meer
Ready to journey through the captivating world of gaming with us? We’re thrilled to have retro gaming legend RGT join our host, Sebastian Malden aka Triple S, for an in-depth discussion that spans the current state of gaming in 2024, the storytelling mastery of titles like "Horizon Forbidden West," and a nostalgic trip back to the glory days of 8-bit consoles. RGT dives into his newfound passion for "Horizon Forbidden West," comparing its stunning visuals and narrative depth to behemoths like "Breath of the Wild" and "Elden Ring." We also dissect how Horizon's intricate world-building stacks up against the Zelda series and the evolution of storytelling in games.
Ever wondered what makes a game’s narrative truly compelling? We tackle this question by comparing the storytelling techniques of "Horizon Zero Dawn" and "Assassin's Creed Valhalla." While "Horizon" earns high marks for its streamlined gameplay and gripping story, we express our disappointment with recent "Assassin's Creed" titles that seem trapped in a cycle of repetition. We also draw parallels between high-budget TV shows and open-world games, discussing whether Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars game might break out of the traditional Ubisoft formula and offer something genuinely innovative.
As we wrap up, join us on a trip down memory lane with a heartfelt exploration of retro gaming and the joys of collecting classic consoles. From the host's personal anecdotes about childhood gaming aspirations and the creation of a dedicated game shed to the impact of digital store closures on game preservation, we cover it all. Plus, we share our excitement for future releases like "Indiana Jones," "Fable," and "Perfect Dark," and talk about how the scarcity of new must-have games this year has pushed us to explore new genres. Whether you're a retro gaming enthusiast or a modern-day gamer, this episode promises a rich blend of insights, nostalgia, and excitement for what's to come.

Ever wondered how a mix-up between IBS and IPA beer could set the stage for a hilarious gaming discussion? Join us on the Unofficial Controller Podcast as George and Seb navigate their drink preferences, all while diving into the indie scene. Seb's journey through V Rising earns it his indie game of the year, while other titles like Hell Divers and Palworld get their moments in the spotlight. We also tackle Seb's struggles with Granblue Fantasy after the immersive Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and compare the classic Persona 3 to the modern sensation Persona 5.
What's it like to blend Assassin's Creed Valhalla with a Star Wars twist? We share our excitement over upcoming games, including the intriguing indie "Cristala," and discuss the trials of battling tough bosses and unexpected elemental weaknesses in Like a Dragon. Navigating JRPGs without grinding isn't easy, so we dive into strategies and the occasional reliance on walkthroughs. Nostalgia kicks in as we recount the evolution of first-person shooters from the N64 era to today's heavy hitters like Halo, and speculate on the future of the Nintendo Switch 2.
From Metroid Prime's visuals to the competitive landscape with handheld PCs like the Steam Deck, we cover it all. We critique Nintendo's strategy of balancing nostalgia with fresh content, and reflect on the importance of innovative experiences for the new console. Our journey wraps up with a look at Fable's potential influence on Zelda, the challenges Xbox faces with its exclusive games, and some whimsical discussions on retro VHS movies and upcoming sports games. Tune in for a blend of gaming news, strategy tips, and a dash of humor that keeps the conversation lively and engaging.

From Fish Tales to Final Vendetta: Tackling Game Libraries and State of Play Highlights
2 juni 2024 · 1 uur 55 min
Send us Fan Mail Lees meer
Ever found yourself lost in the overwhelming world of game libraries, unable to decide what to play next? Join us this week on the Unofficial Controller Podcast as we kick things off with some hilarious banter about Rick Stein's unconventional fish-catching adventures and dive into RGT's surprisingly enjoyable experience with "Final Vendetta" on the Switch. Despite mixed reviews, RGT finds the game's nostalgic pixel art and music a delightful trip down memory lane. You'll also hear about our busy schedules and how they've shaped our gaming habits, setting the stage for a jam-packed episode.
What’s the real deal with digital versus physical game copies, especially with devices like the PlayStation Portal? We nostalgically explore the resurrection of Telltale Games and the eagerly awaited "The Wolf Among Us 2," touching on the convenience of digital libraries and the frustrations of swapping discs. Plus, we dissect the star-studded but ultimately disappointing game "Crime Boss: Rockay City" and speculate how budget choices impacted its overall quality. Our discussion on gaming preferences also covers the regret of buying "F1 Manager 23" due to its similarities with its predecessor, and the overwhelming paralysis of choice in massive game libraries.
From gaming reviews to our hot takes on Sony’s latest State of Play, this episode is packed with thought-provoking insights and playful exchanges. We reminisce about the Metal Gear Solid series' charm, share our mixed feelings about new VR titles, and critique the graphics of the Silent Hill 2 PS5 remake. Finally, we celebrate the Tomb Raider trilogy's impact and share some humorous anecdotes about AI image creation, wrapping up with heartfelt thank-yous to our wonderful community. Whether you're a retro gaming enthusiast or just love a good laugh, this episode promises to entertain and inform.

From Paint Store Palate to Zombie Kicks: A Gaming Adventure with George and Bobby
19 mei 2024 · 1 uur 26 min
Send us Fan Mail Lees meer
Gear up for an eclectic journey through the whimsical to the profound with your hosts George and the ever-charming Bobby . This week, we're dishing out an episode that'll have you chuckling as we reminisce about the curious transformation of a New York paint store into a culinary hotspot and delve into the curious case of Jackie's unexpected exit from Trestles. But it's not all nostalgia and mystery; we've got a hearty serving of gaming glory with a victorious platinum run in Dead Island 2 and we discuss the undeniable allure of zombie drop-kicking.
Bobby and I then set our sights on the horizon of handheld gaming, exchanging fiery opinions on the potential Game Pass debut of Call of Duty and the whispered rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2. Could a Nintendo-themed Steam Deck revolutionize how we play our favorite titles? We dissect the possibilities. Plus, we get all starry-eyed over the prospect of a Legend of Zelda live-action movie, debating whether it should don the haunting beauty of '80s fantasy or stride along the epic path akin to Middle Earth. We even tackle the tricky business of adapting beloved games to the silver screen with the finesse they deserve.
As we wrap up this episode, we steer the conversation toward our personal gaming preferences, expressing our longing to dive into rich, cultural stories like "Rise of Ronin" with authentic voice-overs. We share laughs over our RGT Fan Club’s peculiar discussions—from shoulder appreciation to cling film shenanigans—and Bobby's infectious New York vibe that's become a beacon for our podcast family. Rest assured, by the time the credits roll on this episode, you'll feel like part of the gang, having ridden shotgun through our fifth year of gaming banter, heartfelt camaraderie, and the occasional train enthusiast confession.
