Woody Kincaid Shares His Journey: From Skater Shoes To American Records & The Olympics
15 maart 2023 · 1 uur 1 min
The podcast I've been wanting to make happen for months: The Woody Kincaid Special. Lees meer
Woody Kincaid is a passionate competitor who has accomplished many incredible things in his career. The first time I remember hearing Woody's name was on September 10, 2019, when he became the eighth man in American history to break 13 minutes in the 5k by clocking 12:58.10. Since that day on a brisk and rainy evening in Portland, Oregon, Woody has gone on to etch his name further into the history books. As his Instagram boi alludes, he has literally won the U.S. Trials 10k. He also made the U.S. World Championship team last year in the 5k. Woody ran a new American Record time of 12:51.61 in the 5k this past January, signaling to the world that he's not messing around in 2023. In the words of Woody from this conversation, "The job is never done."
This conversation with Woody was wide-ranging and full of serious topics, such as the lessons he's learned from being in this sport to more comical subjects like putting too much pepper on a Banh Mi sandwich for Gordon Ramsay. We dive into his upbringing in the sport, the 12:58 race, and the special camp that led into it, winning the U.S. Olympic Trials, dealing with negativity and outside noise, what he thinks he can accomplish before he hangs up the spikes, and more.
Woody is a very perspicacious speaker who is incredibly thoughtful about his responses. This trait made this conversation particularly fascinating and impactful. I'm confident you'll walk away from this conversation a better version of yourself and a bigger fan of Woody Kincaid.

Aaron is fresh off of a remarkable season where he won his first-ever cross-country race... the only catch is that that race was the national championship. Not only did he win in stunning fashion, but also broke his former teammate Nico Young's course record. Aaron also helped his team Newbury Park win their second-ever national team championship. On the track, Aaron is a 4xmile (HS) national record holder and holds PRs of 1:48.91 (800m), 4:01.34 (mile), and 8:48.28 (3200m). In this episode, Aaron documents his start in the sport, growing up with Colin Sahlman as a brother, Newbury Park, winning NXN, future goals, and aspirations, and much more! Olympian & Newly Minted American Record Holder Yared Nuguse Recaps His Historic Indoor Season + Reading, Dogs, & Sneaking A Pet Tortoise Across The Country
7 maart 2023 · 54 min
Yared Nuguse. A name you've heard time and time again over the past few months as he's cemented his name into the history books. It all started in Boston, where Yared ran a new American Record in the 3k, clocking 7:28.24. He followed up that performance by running yet another American Record (and the second fastest time ever) with a 3:47.38 at the Millrose Games Wanamaker Mile. Lastly, Yared flew to Europe, where he won a 1500m against a world-class field. Needless to say, Yared is on fire, and I had to get him back on the podcast. Lees meer
Yared runs for the OAC (On Athletic's Club), is a graduate of The University of Notre Dame, where he won NCAA Championships and set an NCAA Record, and was an Olympian for the US in 2020.
This conversation was insightful, impactful, hilarious, and a ton of fun. Yared documents his last seasons at Notre Dame and how he overcame setbacks and failure, signing with OAC, training with "heavy hitters," breaking two American Records this season, future goals for the rest of the year, sneaking his pet tortoise Tyro across the country, and who has the best dog on OAC (sorry, Gus.)
Needless to say, through listening, you'll be inspired, motivated, and have many laughs along the way.

Elise is an Olympian, and American Record Holder, but to me, she is a friend, mentor, and inspiration. The last time Elise was on the podcast was episode 50, so I thought, who better to have on 100ish episodes later than her. The Story Of Nike With Nike Historian-Emeritus Scott Reames
25 februari 2023 · 1 uur 9 min
"Prefontaine basically started Nike's Sports Marketing entire blueprint: athletes talking to athletes. That's one reason Phil Knight was so anti-advertising for a long time; he felt that the best advertising was one athlete telling another. We called it 'word of foot' advertising instead of 'word of mouth.'" Lees meer
My conversation with Scott Reames on the podcast today is one of the most fascinating discussions I've ever had. Scott is the Nike Historian-Emeritus and worked at Nike from 1992-2021. During his time there, Scott successfully documented Nike's history, and that built the backbone of the wildly successful book by Co-Founder of Nike Phil Knight, "Shoe Dog." Scott knows more about the history of Nike than anyone else.
I let my curiosity guide this conversation, resulting in a fascinating and wide-ranging discussion. I pick Scott's brain on many different topics, including Nike's beginnings, some of their biggest signings (Lebron James, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, etc.), Nike's most significant calculated risks, how Nike grew from $8,000 in revenue its first year to $44.5 billion in 2021, and many more subjects.

High School Sensation Sadie Engelhardt Shares Her Story, Running 4:35 In The Mile As A Freshman, & Future Goals
23 februari 2023 · 35 min
Today on the podcast, I get to speak with high school sensation, Sadie Engelhardt. Just as a Freshman last year, Sadie ran 4:35.16 in the mile (a U16 World Record), won Nike Outdoor Nationals, broke the state record in the 1500 by clocking a 4:11.79 at the Portland Track Festival. On the grass this past season, Sadie won a state championship and, early in the season, ran a record-breaking time of 15:42 in the 3-mile. Sadie's coach, Tyree Cruz, put it best, “Sadie may be one of the best runners in high school history, but she’s so much more than that. She’s also a great teammate who loves her team and is always there for them.” Lees meer
I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Sadie. It was light, fun, and inspiring. We discuss her start in the sport all the way up to going into some of her biggest races. From 24 Minute 5k To NCAA Champion: The Story Of Yaseen Abdalla
19 februari 2023 · 1 uur 6 min
"It's hard before it gets easy; getting there is the hard part. You have to be so confident in yourself that people think you're delusional." Lees meer
This is a podcast I've been wanting to make happen since March of 2022. Yaseen Abdalla has gone from a 24min 5k guy to NCAA National Champion. The story of Yaseen Abdalla is one full of ups and downs, and I left this conversation incredibly inspired. Yaseen is the David Goggins of the NCAA. NCAA Champ & NIKE Pro Conner Mantz Shares His Story: Beginnings In The Sport, BYU Years, His Faith, Future Goals, & More
11 januari 2023 · 54 min
Today on the podcast, I have the one and only Conner Mantz. This is an interview I've been wanting to make happen for a while. Conner has one of the brightest futures for the US distance runner and has already accomplished so much in his short professional career so far. Conner won back-to-back NCAA XC titles in 2020 and 2021, cementing himself as one of the greatest American NCAA runners of all time. In 2022, Conner did what few runners have ever done in the same year, compete at the highest level in a short event like the 5k and a long event like the marathon. Conner placed 4th in the 5k at USAs and then a few months later ran 2:08:16 at the Chicago Marathon, the fastest debut marathon ever by an American. Lees meer
This conversation is a deep dive into Conner's career, from his early curiosity of the sport to the present day, where he is eyeing a big race at this weekend's Chevron Houston Half Marathon. We discuss Conner's upbringing in the sport, his two NCAA titles representing BYU, signing with Nike, how much his faith means to him, and of course, the classic Gordon Ramsay question.
Hearing Conner's inspiring story will motivate you to chase after your goals. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out, you'll find something to relate to and learn from in this episode. I'm very confident that you'll find something valuable in this episode.
