From Viral Fame To Silence: Why The Godfather Of Running YouTube Zach Levet Vanished—And What Comes Next
24 november 2024 · 1 uur 17 min
THE ZACH LEVET SPECIAL Lees meer
Today, I have the privilege of having a conversation with a man who pioneered running YouTube for years. He was one of my main inspirations to create content within the running space, and for that I'll be forever grateful.
If you know Zach, you love Zach. His content was second to none for many years. Many people (including myself) religiously watched him every Tuesday evening and were inspired in ways we hadn't been before through his gift of storytelling. He amassed over 100,000 subscribers on this journey.
Zach not only hit that milestone, but dropped out of college (after running D1 for William & Mary), started multiple companies, lived out of a van, lived all across the US, and created throughout it all.
As you'll hear in this conversation, there were many highs, lows, and everything in-between in this journey for him that he shares for the first time publically in today's conversation.
Today's conversation was an absolute gift, and I hope you take the time to listen to it. From hearing about the YouTube years in-depth to the logistics of his current role with Ryan Trahan, to his ambitions for triathlon and the future, you won't want to miss this one.
You can watch the episode both on our YouTube Channel (The Running Effect Podcast) or Spotify or listen on your platform of choice.

"Runners Won't Have An Opportunity To Run If This Goes Through!" Ole Miss Stone Smith On The Implications Of The New SEC Roster Limits & How They Could Kill Our Sport
31 oktober 2024 · 41 min
Last week, the SEC announced that they plan to set men’s roster limits to 10/35 for XC/TF. Lees meer
Earlier last week, coaches and administration from the Southeastern Conference were informed of the proposed conference roster limits for cross country and track & field.
Currently, the average SEC men’s XC roster is ~17.
One of the athletes who came out against this news is Ole Miss athlete, Stone Smith.
Stone is an accomplished runner who was a 5xAlabama 6A State Champion in high school and ran 1:55 (800m), 4:12 (Mile), and 9:08 (2-Mile), and 15:21 in the 5k.
Stone won the Mobile Meet of Champions Mile in 2023, where he set the meet record. He redshirted the bulk of last year but ran 3:52 in the 1500m, which converts to a 4:08 (1600m).
As Stone discusses in this conversation, he would most likely be on the chopping block if this goes through.
Stone walks me through the implications of this news if it goes through, what it would do for the programs within the SEC, how it could set a precedent in other programs around the NCAA, how this will destroy walk-ons, ways to fix the issue, and much more!

On January 15 2025 her suspension will be lifted. And she can compete against the world's best once again.
As she starts her buildup to the redemption tour, I wanted to get her back on the podcast to spill the tea on all she's been up to and how she's planning on coming back.
Shelby is a 13xUS National Champion, a 2016 Olympian, and the American Record Holder in the 1500m where she ran that in the 2019 World Championships in Doha where she placed 4th. In college, she was the first student at Arizona State University to win a national individual title in the outdoor 1,500. Shelby was a 12-time NCAA Division I All-American, the second most in Arizona State history, and an NCAA Track champion.
In today's conversation, Shelby takes me through her plans to return to track, a potentially world-record attempt as her first race back, what brand/group she's joining, her takes on supershoes and why she's never worn them, and an in-depth look at her training.

How To Have The Most Successful XC Season Of Your Life & Lead Your Team To Success With Coach Greg Coplen + Insights From Coaching Cole Sprout & Ashley Jones
27 augustus 2024 · 1 uur 4 min
Throughout the years, some of my favorite episodes have, funny enough, been with kids from the same high school, Valor Christian. Lees meer
The man who coached these athletes is Coach Greg Coplen. After hearing so many positive things about him, I knew I needed to get him on the podcast and pick his brain.
Coach Coplen coached at Valor Christian in Highlands Ranch, CO, for 10 years and is now starting his 2nd full year at Chaparral High School in Parker, CO.
He's coached five teams in four different years, at two different schools, that finished the season in DyeStat National rankings, four of those finishing in the top 10 in the country. Throughout his tenure, he's coached state champions at nearly every event in both genders.
In his first year at Chaparral High School, he helped coach the five boys' State Champions and oversaw the emergence of the girls' cross-country team, which finished third in the state of Colorado, sixth at Nike Southwest Regionals, and 27th in the country. Before last season, the Chaparral girls had not been ranked in the top 10 in the state in over 15 years.
In today's conversation, Coach Coplen takes me through how to flip around a program in one year, how to instill excellence in your athletes, how to handle setbacks and disappointment, the lessons he's learned from coaching high-level athletes like Cole Sprout & Ashley Jones, the legacy he wants to leave behind in the sport, and much more!
This conversation was absolutely fantastic. I personally have many takeaways, and I hope you'll take the time to listen to it!

Needless to say, this guy is really good at track.
Kenny represents NIKE & The United States on the global stage.
Kenny has run 9.87 in the 100m and 19.59 in the 200m.
In today's conversation, Kenny walks me through the moments that have led up to his successful career, his Paris experience, and reflections on his Silver track speed vs. football speed; if Lebron could break 5 minutes in the mile, his ambitions for the future, and so much more!
This conversation was a true privilege to have and exceeded my expectations. I hope you all take the time to listen and learn from Kenny!

16 augustus 2024 · 1 uur 21 min
80 minutes of obsessing about running, discussing college, how to get the most out of your life, and so much more! Lees meer
That's today's podcast.
And there's no better human jam on those subjects with than Mr. Obession himself, Zach Pogrob.
Zach has created next-level content over social media over the past few years and has amassed a following of over 1.4 million followers on Instagram alone. He's one of the best writers I've ever read, and his writings have profoundly impacted my life.
Zach has also recently fallen in love with the sport of running and has thrown himself fully into the fire of seeing how far he can go in this sport. In his first Marathon, on next to no training Zach ran a 3:16:30 Marathon. In his second marathon, Zach ran 2:55:14. He's a beast.
This podcast was one of my all-time favorites. It's just two humans who want more out of their lives having one of those late-night talks about everything on their mindown. You won't want to miss this one. It's special.
