JAECOO 7 TOPS UK SALES AS CHINESE BRANDS NEAR 25% SHARE Lees meer
The Jaecoo 7 became the UK’s best-selling new car in September, while Chinese brands reached 23% market share and BYD became the country’s second-largest bran. BEVs rose and are now 28% of the new cars. Despite the headline 33% ZEV mandate target, scheme flexibilities put the effective 2026 requirement at about 24.6%, meaning the industry is collectively ahead. Jaecoo’s rapid growth brings the challenge of after-sales challenge after nearly two-thirds of owners reporting problems waited more than a week for repairs.
HYUNDAI MAY FILL TWO BIG GAPS IN ITS IONIQ RANGE
Hyundai is reportedly preparing IONIQ 4 and IONIQ 7 electric SUVs, with the compact IONIQ 4 expected to offer 42 or 61 kWh batteries, up to 308 miles of WLTP range and pricing from about £25,000, while the larger IONIQ 7 could offer 800V architecture, at least 400 miles and cost around £45,000–£50,000. Neither model is confirmed, but together they would fill major gaps between Hyundai’s existing EVs and create a much more complete SUV range comparable with Kia’s EV3, EV5 and EV9 line-up.
HYUNDAI SELLS 800V IONIQ V AT $15,000 BUT YOU CAN’T HAVE IT
Hyundai has launched the China-only IONIQ V from a limited-time $14,900, offering 53.5 or 66.8 kWh LFP batteries, up to 650 km CLTC range and an 800V E-GMP architecture, although Hyundai has not disclosed its peak DC charging power. The aggressively priced model is an early test of Hyundai’s planned 20-model Chinese EV push, but in a market rapidly moving towards megawatt-class charging, the unanswered charging-rate figure will help determine whether its technology is as competitive as its price.
GM’S LIMITED-RUN BOLT MEANS 35,000 CARS

EVGO’S 750 KW SYSTEM WILL SPLIT POWER BETWEEN CARS
EVgo has delayed deployment of its next-generation fast-charging system from the second half of 2026 to 2027, with its headline 750 kW figure representing the total power available to share dynamically between connected vehicles rather than 750 kW for one car. The architecture should make better use of site capacity as vehicles move through their charging curves while supporting future higher-power EVs and trucks, with EVgo also planning more NACS connectors, lighter cables and touchless payment.
TRUMP CUTS 2031 US FUEL ECONOMY STANDARD TO 34.9 MPG
The Trump administration has finalised US fuel-economy standards corresponding to a 34.9 mpg fleet average in model year 2031, down from the previous 50.4 mpg requirement and reducing federal regulatory pressure on manufacturers to increase EV sales. From 2028 automakers will also lose the ability to buy CAFE credits from competitors, while tighter light-truck classification rules from 2030 will move many crossovers into the more demanding passenger-car category.

RIVIAN GAINS WASHINGTON LICENCE FOR DIRECT SALES
Rivian has obtained a Washington motor vehicle dealer licence allowing it to sell directly through company-owned locations, although it has not said when in-state sales, test drives or deliveries will begin. It is also preparing a showroom and service centre with 13 service bays and 21 chargers for an expected early-spring 2027 opening, serving a state with almost 10,000 registered Rivians.
USED-DIESEL VALUES FALL AS DIESEL COSTS AROUND 14% MORE
UK diesel prices are around 14% higher than petrol, contributing to falling used-diesel values as motorists reconsider whether the fuel still makes economic sense. Higher fuel costs following geopolitical disruption and the arrival of cheaper EVs are accelerating diesel’s decline, although Britain’s 4.8 million diesel vans have had fewer alternatives until the recent arrival of longer-range electric vans.

Audi’s A4 e-tron is reportedly not expected to enter production before March 2029, and potentially not until late April or early May, despite Audi previously targeting a 2028 market launch. The delay is blamed on technical problems, internal coordination and cost pressures surrounding Volkswagen Group’s SSP architecture, potentially making the A4 e-tron its first full-production model around three years later than Volkswagen originally planned.
MERCEDES-BENZ STARTS ELECTRIC GLA PRODUCTION AT RASTATT
Mercedes-Benz has begun series production of the all-electric GLA at Rastatt, with first customer deliveries expected in November following the replacement of the EQA name with GLA for the new battery-electric model. Built on the MMA platform, the range starts at €48,599.60 in Germany, offers up to 657 km WLTP range in GLA 250+ form and supports DC charging at up to 320 kW on the 250+ and 350 4MATIC variants.
EU ASKS CHINA FOR VOLUNTARY HYBRID EXPORT CURBS
The EU has reportedly asked China to voluntarily limit China-made PHEV exports to around 15% of the relevant EU market, down from more than a third, as Brussels seeks to prevent a broader trade conflict ahead of October talks in Beijing. China-made hybrids generally face only the EU’s standard 10% tariff, unlike BEVs subject to additional countervailing duties, and monthly hybrid imports have risen from 3,800 vehicles in October 2024 to 50,000 in July 2026.
UL SOLUTIONS LAUNCHES V2G CERTIFICATION PROGRAMME

Volkswagen has revealed the 322bhp ID.3 GTI, the first rear-wheel-drive GTI and the most powerful series-production GTI yet, with 0–62mph in 5.6 seconds, GTI-specific chassis tuning and a dedicated driving mode with simulated engine sound. Its 79 kWh usable battery delivers up to 601 km WLTP range and 183 kW charging, with pre-sales beginning in early 2027 as the GTI replaces the GTX at the top of the facelifted ID.3 range.
VOLVO PLANS 13 NEW CARS BY 2030
Volvo plans 13 new electric and hybrid cars by the end of 2030, comprising seven SPA2/SPA3-based models for Western markets and six China-exclusive vehicles developed with Geely on shared platforms and a dedicated Chinese technology stack. The company wants to double its share of the BEV market while also developing a third-generation hybrid system, with regionalisation driven by tariffs, technology restrictions and differing customer preferences.
PORSCHE CAYENNE WIRELESS CHARGING COSTS £7285
Porsche has launched an 11 kW wireless charging system for the Cayenne Electric costing £7,285 in the UK, comprising a £1,930 vehicle-mounted receiver and £5,355, 50kg ground pad that cannot be embedded into a driveway. The approximately 90%-efficient system automatically guides and lowers the Cayenne into position, includes foreign-object detection and app connectivity, and removes the need for a wallbox but still requires substantial dedicated hardware on the ground.

Volvo's restyled XC60 T6 plug-in hybrid claims 124 miles of electric range, still unconfirmed as an official WLTP figure, which is 2.5 times the previous 49 miles and makes it the UK's longest-range PHEV. Hyundai and Kia exported 591,000 electrified vehicles in the first half of the year, up 22.3%, according to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association.
