Allah is demanding from us nothing short of our best when it comes to our parents. We have to be good, patient, merciful, charitable or to have the courtesy to our parents. The status of the parents is second only to the status of Allah SWT.the easiest way to enter Jannah is through obedience to the parents. The widest of Jannah gates are for those who are obedient and good to parents.

When they enter old age, one of them or two of them, we should not abandon them and speak to them in gracious respectable terms. We should not reciprocate anger with anger or reciprocate frustration with frustration. Whatever they use it doesn't matter, we should respond with respect and with gracious words.

Yet we choose to adorn the mask of arrogance and vain without realizing that Allah is the provider of sustenance and all this could be taken away with the blink of an eye.

Hence, it is of paramount importance that we fully comprehend the gravity of the Ayats discussed in this lecture and adopt humility and gratitude of the highest degree.

Almost a hundred verses in the Qur'an command us to be patient and teach us about the blessings of patience. Anas RA said that the Prophet ﷺ said, “The real patience is at the first stroke of a calamity.”

Being patient is a part of belief in Allah. Many prophets like Nuh AS, Ibrahim AS, Musa AS, Ayyub AS, and Prophet Muhammad SAW set forward exemplary standards of patience in the wake of insults, humiliation, and torture.

Sabr and Iman go hand in hand. True righteousness is depicted when we exhibit patience or Sabr. Those who are patient are promised glad tidings by Allah on the Day of Judgement. It is through patience that Allah will save us from the punishment of Allah.

And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allah has guided. And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful. We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muhammad], toward heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces toward it [in prayer]. Indeed, those who have been given the Scripture well know that it is the truth from their Lord. Two things that will ensure success in this world and the Hereafter:

One thing is the promise of the Messenger ﷺ.
The second thing is the promise of Allah.

Allah’s promise to us is said to us three times which is to really be an Ummah is to be united and Allah says “hold on to Allah’s rope tightly”. That rope of Allah is the Quran. The more we are tied to the Quran, the more we are tied to each other and it’s the glue that bonds us.

‘So now the foolish people will say, “What has turned the Muslims away from the qiblah (prayer direction) which they formerly observed?”; proclaim, “To Allah only belong the East and the West; He guides whomever He wills upon the Straight Path.”
After his migration to Madina the Prophet ﷺ continued to pray in the direction of Jerusalem for between sixteen and seventeen months. Subsequently, he received the order to pray in the direction of the Ka'bah. This reinstates a point in the narrow minds of the ignorant people and those with limited vision that lend undue attachment to formalities such as the direction and location of Prayer. They presumably conceived Allah to be confined to a particular direction.

Hence, it is of immense significance that we realize that we are dealing with the property of Allah and so we must be cautious, specifically with women.

We must also protect the institution of marriage and if we want to set an example for real Taqwa, then we are obliged to primarily honor our own families and humanity as a whole.

Even the Muslims found themselves in the doldrums were they not for once reprimanded by the Prophet SAW. instead, the Prophet ﷺ brought his epitome of mercy and kindness forth to calm down the Sahabas who were mortified with guilt.

A lesson to imbibe and inculcate from these happenings is that we too need to keep a brave front in the face of trials and adversities and not be overwhelmed by them. Everything good or bad is from Allah and He alone is the All-Knowing. We should take comfort in the fact that Allah will never abandon us and will never burden us with trials more than what we can bear. Ustadh Nouman gives a comprehensive lecture on Ayats 116-120 of the esteemed Surah Al Baqarah that deals with another type of Shirk that the Christians of the time were indulging in which was that Allah has a son, Ma’zAllah. Lees meer

These Ayaat refute the Christians, the Jews and the Arab idolaters who claimed that Allah had taken a son, MazaAllah. Allah SWT refutes the claim by saying, “Subhanahu - Glory is to Him,” meaning He is Holier and more Perfect than what they attribute to Him.

The disbelievers used to deny the Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ; some of them did so out of sheer hatred and jealousy. In order to feel triumphant in this uncouth behavior, they would make absurd and impossible demands, two of which have been mentioned in the Ayats 118-119. They insisted that Allah SWT Himself should speak to them, either directly as He speaks to the angels, or through the angels as He speaks to the Prophets. He should also announce that He sent Muhammad ﷺ as a Prophet, thus, making it easy for them to have faith in him and to follow his guidance. Ignorance to the max!

Allah SWT informs him that this behavior of theirs is not due to lack of convincing arguments and proofs, but is caused by pride and self-satisfaction. Allah SWT informs the Prophet ﷺ that there is no likelihood of pleasing either of them until and unless he accepts their religion. Therefore, do not seek what pleases or appeases them, and stick to what pleases Allah SWT by calling them to the truth that He sent you with.

One should keep in mind three different incidents connected with the three groups, all of which were in one way or another guilty of preventing people from worshiping Allah SWT. What were they? The Ustadh elaborates for a sound understanding.

Through this Ayah number 114, Allah SWT lays down a permanent law for all people. It is not permissible to desecrate mosques and hinder people from the remembrance of Allah SWT. Whoever does this is unjust and cruel and he will be laced with humiliation in this world and dire punishment in the next. It is from the etiquette of mosques that one should enter them with humility and respect, fearing Allah SWT or being conscious of Allah SWT in one’s heart.

The idolaters compelled the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions RA to migrate from Makkah to Madinah, thus separating them from the Ka'bah. Ayah 115 is a befitting answer to the objections of the Jews and also brings comfort to the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions RA. Allah SWT cannot be limited to one fixed direction. He is everywhere and surrounds everything. What really matters is obeying the commands of Allah SWT. In order to win His pleasure, one has to orient oneself according to what He Himself has determined.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan engages us with Ayats 110-113 of the magnificent Surah Al Baqarah. The gist of the Tafseer is that entering Paradise depends on the intensity and magnitude of our Belief and righteous deeds. Lees meer

The essence of religion whether it be Islam, Christianity or Judaism lies in two things:

Obedience to Allah SWT in one’s belief as well as in one’s actions.
Submission to the Commands of Allah in all sincerity.

Two conditions are of paramount importance for a deed to be accepted and be worthy of Paradise:

It must be performed for the sake of Allah SWT.
It must conform to the Sharia based on the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ. When the deed is sincere but does not conform to the Sharia, then it will not be accepted.

Allah SWT says with reference to the argument between Jews and Christians based on their rightness of religion that He will decide on the Day of Judgment who is on the right religion and who has gone astray.

We should raise the standard of our deeds and do everything to its ultimate best and perfection. Why do we give Allah SWT our mediocre and half-hearted deeds? When we face difficulty in the path of Allah SWT, we should ask Him for help, and bear everything with the highest form of Sabr.

Lees meer

Allah SWT forbade the believers from asking the Prophet ﷺ numerous questions about matters that did not occur yet. The hidden motive of their asking was not to seek guidance, to satisfy their doubts or to strengthen their faith. Rather, they only asked to cast aspersions on a Prophet or to question the wisdom of Allah SWT.

Allah SWT said that even after He enlightened them (Jews and Christians) with the truth, their envy made them deny the Prophet ﷺ. Thus Allah SWT criticized, chastised and denounced them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions RA, however, used to forgive and be patient with the disbelievers as Allah SWT had ordered.

By saying, “And perform the Salah and give the Zakah, and whatever of good you send forth for yourselves before you, you shall find it with Allah,” Allah SWT encouraged the believers to busy themselves in performing deeds that would bring them to benefit and reward on the Day of Resurrection, such as Salah and Zakah. This way, Allah will help in this life and on the Day of Judgment.

Firstly, one shouldn't be concerned about whether the person to whom Dawah is being given will change or not. It is entirely up to Allah to guide people if they are sincerely seeking guidance. Our job as a Muslim is to give Dawah to as many people as possible and invite them to Islam using wisdom and care. One should not reduce Islam to harsh debates and even if you have to then do so with the best of character and don't let our ego and Shaytan get in the way.

Ingredients of the Dawah of the Noble Prophet ﷺ that gave it strength:

    His impeccable and astounding character
    Credibility
    Honesty
    Intelligence
    Truthfulness
He had credence within the community and he was someone who people could rely on.

He begins his lecture with how there was always a Battle of Adam AS on one side and the angels and Shayateen on either side of Adam AS. Also, he delves into the long history of Bani Israel mentioned in Surah Al Baqarah and how they were also given a similar choice as Adam AS to follow Allah or Shayateen and how they did not eventually obey Allah and deviated from the right path. Our essence as Muslims is illustrated in the points below:

We are a continuation of the battle that began with Adam AS and Shayateen.
We see ourselves as the practicers of the religion of Ibrahim AS. The five pillars of Islam all trace back to Ibrahim AS.
We are not the first ones to be chosen as an Ummah to uphold the religion of Islam. The nations before us had been replaced because they have not obeyed the religion of Allah and deviated considerably.

It is mandatory upon us a Muslim Ummah to uphold the religion of Islam and carry it responsibly without showing any traces of anger, ego, and frustrations. The people deserve mercy and we need to follow the footsteps of Ibrahim AS and adopt his way to propagate Islam and bring it to the fore.

He begins with the concept of Tasbeeh. He talks about the worry and concern of the angels regarding the behavior of the humans once they step on the earth. They discuss with Allah to devise a solution of Dhikr of Tasbeeh for humans in order to avoid those problems.

How do we rectify the Muslim Ummah whose hearts are dying when it comes to the Deen and its pillars? How do we make the Muslim Ummah come closer to Deen and have a genuine love for it? We need to restore our connection with the Qur'an. We need to follow the Prophet ﷺ where he would recite on his people the Ayat of the Qur'an. We should acknowledge the advice, wisdom, and teachings in the Qur'an for us to imbibe them wholeheartedly in order for it to change the way we think about ourselves, our near and dear ones and the members of our community. It starts our purification from greed, jealousy, hatred and many such predicaments.

There are different groups in society. According to this Ayat, one can categorize them as the leaders or the intellectual people of society. And then there are the general masses who form the majority of the population. Hence, we should address the people or give Dawah based on the category. The language and the style of our Dawah are entirely dependent on the group we address and hence, it should be done with extreme clarity and caution.

Hikmah is treating different people in a different manner because we need to psychologically understand the audience and then address them effectively and suitably. The advice that we give can change the heart of the receiver and hence, it is of paramount importance that we use this power of Dawah to the best of our knowledge with effective Hikmah.

We are the followers of the religion of Ibrahim AS. the idea of Islam comes from Ibrahim AS and is his legacy.

What is important is guidance. Guidance is just not about which direction we shall face when praying but it is what we should do and not do when it comes to our Shariah.

Ayat number 5 and Ayat number 29 of Surah At Tawbah are the examples chosen in this lecture to deal with the examples of abrogation in the Qur'an. The Ayat in Surah Tawbah is up for discussion in the initial part of the lecture. The verse states:
“And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
Some people have unfortunately propagated that this verse allows Muslims to fight with all Non-Muslims until they convert to Islam. The truth of the matter is that this verse only applies to the polytheistic Arabs who lived during the time of the Prophet ﷺ who had broken multiple peace treaties and were at war with the Muslims.

We are also familiarised with the concept of the absence of Bismillah at the beginning of Surah At Tawbah and the reason for the same.
